No charge. Not sure about the limit, can't get to Royal's website right now. It's on vacation.
pixiestyx Posted August 1, 2015 #3 Share Posted August 1, 2015 Do they even still make traveler's checks? I know AAA will only issue a pre-paid debut like card.

Grandma Dazzles Posted August 1, 2015 #5 Share Posted August 1, 2015 (edited) American Express available at my bank. Several years ago on a land-based vacation in the Caribbean they were very helpful. After a severe storm had a power outage. No credit cards, ATM's were working. Restaurants had already got rid of the hand swiped CC machines for the most part. Hotel was very helpful if you had travelers checks. Just wrote room number on back and gave out cash. Have cashed at guest services in the past. Edited August 1, 2015 by Grandma Dazzles

cruisegirl1 Posted August 1, 2015 #7 Share Posted August 1, 2015 (edited) We use them only on a cruise ship. For us, they are a good way to bring cash with no worries. There is no charge to purchase (AAA member ) and RCCL doesn't charge any fee to cash them. The personal check limit is often too low if we are on a longer cruise, or have significant travel post cruise. We frequent the casino, so for us it is a good way to bring casino cash. Shak Posted August 1, 2015 #8 Share Posted August 1, 2015 Our bank still issues them for free and the RCI still chases them. I hope that never changes. Shak
peteukmcr Posted August 1, 2015 #9 Share Posted August 1, 2015 As far as I'm told RCI do not accept pre-paid cards but still accept travellers cheques which we can still get here in the UK.
39august Posted August 1, 2015 Author #10 Share Posted August 1, 2015 Thanks for all the info. My husband likes the casino and doesn't like having to carry a lot of cash. So he will opt for the traverlers checks for our next cruise in a few weeks.
George C Posted August 1, 2015 #11 Share Posted August 1, 2015 I stopped using them also, but if bank was not charging for them why not use them, always liked them for my gambling money.
Rare Scrapnana Posted August 1, 2015 #12 Share Posted August 1, 2015 (edited) I had £40 and $100 in traveller's checques left over from the 1990's. I found it difficult to find places that would accept them. When I was in Southampton in January, I went into one of the large travel agencies that exchanged money and was able to cash the £40. The gentleman who waited on me said that they were going to stop accepting them in March and many of the banks had already stopped cashing them. It has become a plastic world. richard1s Posted August 2, 2015 #14 Share Posted August 2, 2015 I was always an advocate of using travelers checks but they are pretty hard to find these days. Amex Travel issues them for a 1% fee for cardholders. However other than the security of not carrying cash, they are pointless; some merchants even seemed annoyed cashing them. I also recall one incident on a cruise ship when I was actually called down to Guest Services to verify my signature after I cashed one, because someone noticed a variation between my two signatures on the check. While I appreciated the attention to detail, it seemed like a total waste of time.
