smoking?

Its actually one small part, on one side of the Lawn Club, near the Sunset bar, on the OPEN top deck......by no means is the area "the entire back of the ship"... I do not smoke, and I have never been bothered by it.

My take on the comments was that the entire Sunset Bar was smoke filled by the end of the week as ashtrays and smokers kept migrating into the non-smoking area. We will definitely keep an eye on this on our upcoming February cruise. The smoking policy is one of the things that we love about Celebrity. If this is not enforced, we will absolutely be bringing it to the attention of higher ups. We plan to spend quite a bit of time at the Sunset Bar and neither of us can stand smoke. It has never been an issue in the past and I hope that will continue.

"the entire back of the ship" spans 18 decks from port to starboard, multiple venues, countless passenger balconies, etc. etc. Of course it's a gross exaggeration.

I would implore you to not bother with this time waster, enjoy your cruise. If you come across a 'situation' then report it. To follow up on a quite possible 'rumor' false at best, is not worth it unless this will help you relax.. :p

That comment about all the smoke was just nonsense.

We were on the Reflection TA and the smokers in the Sunset Bar grew everyday-and yes on some days there were ashtrays on the bar & on the "non-smoking" side of the Sunset bar.

We hadn't experienced this on the Equinox, Eclipse or Solstuce & figured since there was no Oceanview Bar outside on the Reflection that resulted more smokers in a small space.

Just saw this on a Reflection review under the negatives. Hope it is not true. I thought it was not allowed.

• Smoking – the entire back of this ship was unusable by mid-week

For the comfort and enjoyment of our guests, our ships are designated as non-smoking; however, we recognize that some of our guests smoke. Therefore, to provide an onboard environment that also satisfies smokers, we have designated certain areas of the ship as "smoking areas." Generally, smoking is not permitted except in designated areas. (Contact Guest Relations for additional details). This policy includes smoking-like products such as electronic cigarettes.

Smoking is not permitted inside any guest stateroom; nor on any guest veranda. If a guest is in violation of this policy, a cleaning fee of $250 USD will be applied to their SeaPass account and the guest may be subject to further action pursuant to the "Consequences Section" of this Guest Conduct Policy.

Celebrity Cruises kindly asks all guests to please observe the non-smoking areas and to refrain from smoking cigarettes, pipes or cigars in any of the non-designated areas. These requests are made to provide a comfortable shipboard environment for everyone.

Where permitted, cigarettes, cigars and pipe tobacco must always be properly disposed of and never thrown overboard. A guest must be at least 18 years of age to purchase, possess or use tobacco.

When you have a high percentage of European and French Canadians aboard like recently on the Eclipse the rear of the open Deck 12 does become unbearable especially when ship is static. Celebrity take the bold step and be the first to be SMOKE FREE.

The last time we were on the Silhouette and the "ashtray migration" started, we went to the bar and complained at which time they went and picked up all the ashtrays and moved them to the proper area. We will be on the Silhouette

again in Oct and DH will call security if this happens again and not addressed immediately. We just debarked from the Millie and it was so nice to be outside in the Oceanview Bar with no smoking. This is probably because it is an eating venue (right outside the buffet on M Class). The Sunset Bar is our favourite and if it is compromised by intrusive smokers leaching outside their designated area, beware:cool:

We had a large group of French Canadians on our last cruise (Japan & China) and everyone smoked in all the proper designated areas. No problem either with them or any other group.

Host Anne just wrote a review about her recent cruise on REFLECTION.

There is entire paragraph relating to smoking........so on her particular

cruise the back of the ship had ALOT of smoke...so it looks like it was not an exaggeration.

Here is the quote:

"I know this is a controversial subject and I do try to approach it objectively. I know people still smoke…we often sail with passengers who do. I think most try to remain respectful of the rules but like so many things, it only takes a few who ignore the rules to make it miserable for everyone.

The Sunset Bar is our favorite spot on the S-Class ships. But Celebrity’s smoking policy (or lack of enforcement of it) was making the entire back area of the ship unusable.

In defense of smokers (don’t start flaming me), there are NO signs anywhere on the ship that indicate where you can and can’t smoke. It’s posted in the rules (how many people read those?) but unless you really know the rules, it’s easy to see what smokers do what they do.

When we first boarded, ash trays were placed on the far rear tables of the port side of the ship. As the week went on, smokers moved closer and closer to the bar itself (at times, there were ash trays on the port side of the bar). Add cigar smokers to the mix with smokers moving closer to the bar with each passing day, you couldn’t sit anywhere at the back of the ship. In fact, you couldn’t even sit on the starboard side of the ship where the lawn is located and get away from the smoke.

I’d really like Celebrity to clearly post smoking/no smoking signs and have their staff enforce them. To all the smokers that abide by the rules, thanks!"

First off I don't smoke. My wife does, but she goes to the places where it is allowed.

Looking at this objectively, if the ship had a large number of smokers, more than can fit in the smoking area, then X staff probably allowed the area to get a little larger. After all they couldn't go anywhere else to smoke - so give them a little space, you have the whole rest of the ship to utilize, whereas they cannot.

Exactly the point that "Celebrity Cruises" is missing! COMPLAINING should not be necessary. Celebrity should make sure (or empower) that their employees are ensuring that smoking rules are followed, not only when passengers have to tell employees that there is an issue.

Really, the writing is on the wall. Ban smoking on the ships. Just get it over with.

I, too, enjoy the Sunset Bar - on the port side, where smoking is permitted. I would kindly ask that non-smoking passengers please refrain from this area of the Sunset Bar. This particular, small space is at times habitated by non-smokers, who then commence to throw nasty looks and wave their hands in front of their faces. I'm where I'm supposed to be. You should take yourself to any one of the 97% of the ship that is smoke-free.

The unfortunate occasions when smoking "invades" the starboard side of the Sunset Bar is the result of so few smoking venues on the ship that, naturally, smokers generate a lot of smoke in such a limited environment.

The less space those who smoke are allotted, the more invasive the smoke. This is not rocket science. People have all kinds of intrusive and nasty habits. Bottom line is we all need to get along. It's called compromise. Remember when society actually engaged in this lost art?

They've got a real problem on the S-Class ships, especially Reflection, with the smoking at the aft end of the pool area. The smoke drafts into the elevator area and down the hallway to staterooms on Deck 12 every time the sliding doors open. On Reflection, with the pool and Buffet area both on Deck 14, when the sliding doors open, the smoke drafts all the way in to the buffet area. On a TA in 2013, it was so windy, the smoke drafted all the way to the food area every time the sliding doors opened.

I talked with the Hotel Director about the problem, but he said it was a safety issue to lock off those doors. I told him that was horse crap -- he didn't have to lock off the doors -- just direct folks over to the Starboard side. The doors could easily be used for entering/exiting in any emergency.

Just off the Equinox. Many non-smokers migrated into the smoking area when the sun was where they wanted it to be. Many ashtrays went "missing". On Deck 5 smoking area, non-smokers would take chairs from that area and move them away so they could get sun.

There is much bashing of smokers on these threads, but I find for the most part that the smokers are much more respectful of non-smokers than the non-smokers are of smokers. There are so few areas for smokers and they can easily be avoided as they are apparent by the placement of ashtrays.

This thread started out as a common sense, respectful discussion. It has since taken a turn for the worse. But that seems to be the norm.

I'm sure the experience varies based on the number of smokers on board.

On Reflection, I noticed it only when using the jogging track (really, that is awful place to put a smoking area!).

On Silhouette (recently) I noticed that they had some ashtrays on the pool deck - right around the area where the hammocks are - before you enter the Solarium.

There were several smokers. I noticed it when walking by the area. Sometimes while lounging further down, I had to move, one ore more times because the wind was bring the smoke inward. Not a big deal, but I did notice it on this cruise not on the last one.

Had no issues on the balcony.

As long as the casino stays smoke-free - I'm happy.

Reflection had no smoking on the pool deck in Dec. 2014. Deck 5, Sunset bar port side, and Mast bar (one deck up from pool deck). Don't know if it is the same today.

That's good news. We will be on her next year.

It varies from ship to ship, especially on the M-Class. Some have no smoking at the Sunset Bar, and some do on the Port side.
