cb at sea Posted December 30, 2015 #2 Share Posted December 30, 2015 If it's a port we've been to, then sure, we've stayed on the ship. But I like getting off for awhile in most ports....just nice to see something different!
Rare John&LaLa Posted December 30, 2015 #3 Share Posted December 30, 2015 It's pretty quiet on board. Park Cafe is open. There may be specials in the spa. Definitely not empty. People are discovering the joy of a less crowded ship. Lack of breeze can be problematic though
Rare Keith1010 Posted December 30, 2015 #4 Share Posted December 30, 2015 If we don't care for a port we will just make the ship a sea day. Keith
trihawks1 Posted December 31, 2015 #5 Share Posted December 31, 2015 My DD was on Oasis Dec 12-19. She got off at Nassau and hated it. She said next time she would either not book an itinerary with Nassau or stay on ship 100%. They were off ship only an hour.
rwilk1129 Posted December 31, 2015 #6 Share Posted December 31, 2015 Many times we have not gotten off the ship. We have seen the ports many times already and love the ships especially when quieter and less crowded.
nbcruiser2 Posted December 31, 2015 #7 Share Posted December 31, 2015 I have done it and it is the best! Nothing like having the ship to yourself (and choice seats at the pool).
cincicruisers Posted December 31, 2015 #8 Share Posted December 31, 2015 We usually stay onboard on one of our port days. We enjoy hanging out at the pool with no crowds.
reallyhooked Posted December 31, 2015 #9 Share Posted December 31, 2015 Allure 2012. However I wish had just to get a picture of ship
perkli25 Posted December 31, 2015 #10 Share Posted December 31, 2015 We have definitely done this. We skipped some ports because we didn't want to tender. And also places like Nassau that we didn't much care for and arrival times were inconvenient. As others have said, it's nice to have a less crowded ship. MrsK Posted December 31, 2015 #11 Share Posted December 31, 2015 We do it all the time. We've visited most of the Caribbean ports and we find we are okay with just pulling up a deck chair and looking out over the port from the comfort of the ship. Sitzmark Posted December 31, 2015 #12 Share Posted December 31, 2015 We will be on Oasis and will not be getting off at Labadee. Don't have alternate plans but we hope to find something to do.
Beachammo Posted December 31, 2015 #13 Share Posted December 31, 2015 We always get off the ship even if it's just a walk down the pier and back. We usually get lunch in port just to try the local cuisine and get away from ship food. We stay away from the chain and Hard Rock restaurants. casinostreer Posted December 31, 2015 #14 Share Posted December 31, 2015 My first cruise was on Allure. There was CERTAINLY plenty to do on the ship on port days. I usually travel with my large(ish) family. Some of them enjoy getting off the ship at certain ports. I usually enjoy staying on the ship. I'm not a beach person - so sun/sand worship is not for me. I usually cruise to be away from my day job and have all of my meals, entertainment and drinks at the ready. There is something VERY relaxing about that for me. Excursions always seem to be a rush to a destination. Oh, and I like it when the casino stays open - like Labadee. :) Regardless, on or off the ship - you'll have a great time! Rare BecciBoo Posted December 31, 2015 #15 Share Posted December 31, 2015 We've had some of the best days and certainly met some interesting people whilst staying aboard. We usually do that in certain places such as Nassau Key West and Jamaica. Been there so many times. We've had the pools all over Allure all to ourselves and maybe a handful of others. Great times!;)

Rare Lionesss Posted December 31, 2015 #17 Share Posted December 31, 2015 DH always likes to leave the ship and just put his feet on land.............. But, always manages to find something to do in the way of an excursion. I would love a lazy day on board with no crowds to just enjoy. Safe travels. laurac22 Posted December 31, 2015 #18 Share Posted December 31, 2015 We choose to stay on the ship at least one port of every cruise. My Son is in a wheelchair and it is hard on most sea days to get close to the pool, and be able to enjoy swimming and hanging out it's just to crowded. We love an empty ship, and treat most ships as our resort destination.

Dave85 Posted December 31, 2015 #21 Share Posted December 31, 2015 We stay on in Nassau and Jamaica. It's lovely to have a day where it's nice and quiet on the ship and you can get a seat right next to the pool without having to wake up super early or get insanely lucky! I've noticed that more and more people seem to be staying on in Nassau in recent years... I'd say that I want the cruise lines to ditch Nassau, but I actually enjoy the empty ship and the opportunity to see some other ships in port. Rare mcatmcat Posted December 31, 2015 #24 Share Posted December 31, 2015 I rarely do that unless I go to Jamaica Falmouth ( nothing to do there outside the big gates unless you book an excursion )
Eriksgarden Posted December 31, 2015 #25 Share Posted December 31, 2015 We won't get off the ship in Jamaica again. After paying money to struggle to survive Dunns River, we don't see anything worth doing there. We're planning hot stone massages instead.
