Snowstorm Jonas Update

January 22, 2016

1:00 p.m. E.S.T

Royal Caribbean International is closely monitoring Snowstorm Jonas, which is expected to impact the East Coast this weekend. Based on the most recent weather forecast, Royal Caribbean will modify the following upcoming sailings:

Grandeur of the Seas will return to Baltimore, Maryland, one day later than originally scheduled. The next sailing will now begin on Monday, January 25. Guests on the upcoming cruise should arrive to the terminal on Monday. A letter with additional details on Grandeur’s itinerary will be provided at check in.

Hello everyone . . . by now everyone knows the decision from Royal Caribbean. Captain Holm made the announcement at about 3PM. I have spoken with many passengers, and I would suggest that 90% think this is a wise decision. I agree with RCI, that this makes the most sense for debarkation and passengers having to drive to the pier on Sunday morning.

Passengers that have to phone for ride assistance or airline assistance can phone for free on Deck 5. Passengers that must have internet access will be given time to use on Deck 4, at Royal Caribbean On-Line (Internet Café) I am sure other services may be altered or changed. I signed up for the unlimited access, and my service is good through Monday. It is a little slower today, but it has been good for 7 days. . .

I missed my seminar this morning, but enjoyed a Bridge Tour at 10:15AM. 2nd Officer Igor was well versed on his explanation of all bridge related items. He was also very funny. It seems that he loves his job, and he really like to give the Bridge Tours.

Tonight is Formal night, and I am thinking I may have a lobster (or 2). I am aware that the Lobster served in Chops Grille is much better. . . But I can handle the MDR lobster with no worries.

It has been mild all day with temps around 65F. The seas have been rough, and the crew has placed the “Ooops I’m sick bags” at each stairwell. I have a feeling that the Great Gatsby Dining Room may not be busy tonight. Many passengers are having fun with the rough seas. I have never been seasick and I’m not sure what even causes it, but I know that rough seas never bother me.

Here are a few pics from today . . . I am making a few short vids, and will try to post a couple before the end of the cruise. . . I am happy about one more day at sea !

Hello everyone, and good morning. Welcome to DAY 8 of “LIVE” from Grandeur of the Seas.

I woke up early this morning and went outside to some very cold weather. The seas are still very rough which is causing the ship to pitch and roll. It seems that the stabilizers have been retracted as a fuel saving measure when passengers went to bed last night. We are currently off the coast near Charleston, SC. It is very cold out but I am not complaining. I would much rather be on a ship that is rocking, and cold than be in the middle of a blizzard.

I was speaking with a crew member I have been friends with on board Grandeur of the Seas for 15 years . He suggested that 60 crew members are scheduled to go on holiday when we dock on Monday morning. The key word is scheduled . . . Their replacement must show up before they leave the ship. It is possible that with airlines shutting down, some may have to wait until the next port of call. (Grandeur is scheduled to do a Western itinerary after this cruise)

Grandeur is offering passengers 30 minute internet vouchers for those who need to contact air/rail /sedan service or family members to pick them up. The voucher is a 1 time only use, and must be used at the internet cafe. Passengers can also phone their family, airline, rail etc. but only from Deck 5 at the shore excursion desk.

The Cruise Director also answered some of the many questions from passengers that have been coming in because of the extra day at sea. No additional night tips will be charged for passengers. If you are parked at Cruise Maryland, there will be no extra charge for the additional day. All drink and internet packages will be extended for through the end of the cruise with no additional charge.

Here are a few pics from last night and this morning. . .

Thanks for the nice comments, and thanks for tuning in.

We were on the previous cruise. Our waiter, Jigger, is scheduled to go home after your cruise. I was wondering if he would be able to get out on Sunday. Hope he is able to get out, period! If you see him, tell him Maryann said hello.

Radio I have a question regarding your mapping images of the ship. Do you use the advance version of marine traffic and another program? I have considered getting it but I would like some feedback from you.

Thanks for the live report. You have a high go standard and I always enjoy your reviews. On a side note the electric car looked like a lot of fun to drive. Hopefully your drive home once you get off the ship goes smoothly too. Safe travels Radio.

Yes, we get CNN Intl, and CNN Headline News . . . Everyone here is aware of the troubles. . . They seem to have News on TV in many if the lounges.

I am happy that I never get seasick. . . It looks bad. Many passengers on board are not feeling well.

We have diverted our course to SE (144°), I guess so we can maneuver around the storm?

I don't have the advanced version of Marine traffic . . . I use that only when we are in range. The image posted this morning is from my GPS connected to my Laptap. I use a Garmin GPSMap 76CSx (Handheld portable GPS that is very precise) The software used for Navigation and Maps is from Delorme.

Thanks for the nice comments. . .
