DrD Posted January 21, 2016 #51 Share Posted January 21, 2016 There should definitely be some kind of compensation. Especially since I'll be there on Feb 1st. Part of the reason I booked this cruise is for labadee. Never been and have heard nothing but great things about it. Read your cruise contract. Midwestgal Posted January 21, 2016 #52 Share Posted January 21, 2016 Btw, I love Labadee's beaches. Glad to hear you love it, This port was the reasons I booked the western itinerary. I hope I love it too. I guess it's not good to read so many reviews .
toad455 Posted January 21, 2016 #53 Share Posted January 21, 2016 we've already heard of the Navigator & Vision cancelling their scheduled stops this week. Other ships scheduled to stop there are the Allure(1/26), Independence(1/27), Anthem(1/28) & Celebrity Silhouette(1/29). Any word if these ships have cancelled as well?? impatientlywaiting Posted January 21, 2016 #55 Share Posted January 21, 2016 I doubt there are "fees" associated with the private beach....they don't pay themselves to dock there! Yes you do. When we couldn't make our scheduled stop at CocoCay, we were refunded our "port fees". :)
toad455 Posted January 21, 2016 #56 Share Posted January 21, 2016 Is Navigator not alongside now. Part of the reason I booked this cruise is for labadee. Never been and have heard nothing but great things about it. I suppose you think if weather or some other issue that is completely out of RCI's control causes a missed port, you should be compensated as well? RCI owes you nothing short of your port fees for a missed port. If you cruise long enough, you WILL miss ports for various reasons. We have missed several, but never sweated it, nor expected anything in return from the cruise line. This reminds me of a cruise last year when we missed Roatan because of high winds. A lady was at guest services yelling at an officer that she had saved money for several years to take this cruise, and this missed port ruined her entire vacation!!! Really?? Maybe she should have flown there if it was such an importatnt stop? The fact is, weather and political unrest are not predictable and no compensation is owed because of it. I agree with the earlier post; "Read your cruise contract"! :D:D

Erwin Family @ Sea Posted January 21, 2016 #59 Share Posted January 21, 2016 (edited) Royal pays the Haitian government $12 for every tourist that visits Labadee with a contract through 2050. I doubt the power that be are willing to give up that amount of money anytime soon. Edited January 21, 2016 by Erwin Family @ Sea

We love Labadee and will be sorry if it is lost as a Western Port of Call.
Loyal2RCCL Posted January 21, 2016 #61 Share Posted January 21, 2016 RCCL suspended all calls at Labadee for several months in the early-mid 90's due to political unrest in that country. They may need to do the same now, but once things stabilize they will return once it's deemed safe.

vxr Posted January 21, 2016 #63 Share Posted January 21, 2016 Does RC typically refund excursions when/if Labadee is cancelled? If cancellation is likely I might hedge my bets by cancelling some of our activities.

I agree with the earlier post; "Read your cruise contract"! :D:D I am sure that they would refund me if I rented a cabana or purchased any other shore excursion. When we were several hours late (because of a medical emergency, had to turn around and go back to Florida) getting to Labadee last year, they gave us the option of getting our money back for the cabana because the time spent was less then 1/2 the stated time. I suppose that they would do the same because of a missed port.
shakeNbake Posted January 21, 2016 #65 Share Posted January 21, 2016 Anyone recall what port of call they may have substitute back then for Labadee if any? Even though if they do, it may differ now? FYI back in the early 2000's a crew member was murdered. Just curious as it is our port in a few weeks.
Midwestgal Posted January 21, 2016 #66 Share Posted January 21, 2016 (edited) You will be refunded all and any excursions charges if the ship doesn't stop. If there are any port charges you will also get that a credit on your seapass . If it's going to be an ongoing issue I would imagine they will start going to Nassau instead, I'm sure right now it's a wait and see approach. You are not entitled to compensation! nosmothj Posted January 21, 2016 #67 Share Posted January 21, 2016 I would expect this is an impressment for RCCL. Regardless of how they put it Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world. For the locals to protest must be major issue.

George C Posted January 21, 2016 #69 Share Posted January 21, 2016 Considering it has been a dangerous island forever, wonder why RCCL ever chose this island in the 1st place. Would have been better off on the other side of the island in the Dominican republic
Biker19 Posted January 21, 2016 #70 Share Posted January 21, 2016 Anyone want to bet that as they did with the auto-grats last year, the port fee goes up from 12 to 12.95? You know, to give them a raise:D
GateGuardian Posted January 21, 2016 #71 Share Posted January 21, 2016 No, Costa Maya would work much better. Yeah Costa Maya would be preferable as the beaches are nice there, but Nassau usually have the docks to accommodate last minute ships.

They just did this on our Vision cruise this week when they cancelled Grand Cayman. However, for non-ship excursions, you are on your own.
