Using handbags during cruise

I am a first time cruiser and I've been reading posts about using/not using lanyards on board. Most of my pants do not have pockets and I'm not sure what to do with my room card. Wearing a lanyard doesn't really appeal to me. I have a small cross body handbag that I usually take on vacations. Would this be appropriate? Thank you in advance for any tips.

Welcome to Cruise Critic!

A cross body handbag is the perfect size to take on a cruise. I never travel without it.

Have a fantastic cruise! :)

i have a couple of small bags I picked up in Thailand. just big enough for a cell phone(camera), my eyeglass case a lip balm and my sea pass card. long enouygh to drape across so it is hands free.

I too hate lanyards.

I always bring two cross body bags about 6 - 8 inches in size. One taupe, one black. On sea days I usually wear shorts or capris with pockets, or carry a pool bag. Otherwise, I carry one of the cross body's. Easy to switch out: I just carry my sea pass card, lipstick, the ships daily schedule and a pen to mark it.

I don't mind the lanyard so will often use that for times when a having a bag would be inconvenient, like walking the deck in the morning. If I want to carry my phone/camera or anything else...and also when I go on shore...I have a small Baggalini cross body that I use. Fits everything perfectly and is easily adjustable.

I like a cross body because I feel its more secure and keeps my hands free. If I have a sweater, I'll always put the cross body on first, then the sweater, for more security of the strap.

I always have at least a small purse with me everywhere I go.

On the ship, I often use a small Coach wristlet that holds my reading glasses, a mini hair brush, tissues, key card and a few dollars, lipstick.....

When in port, I usually wear a small cross body bag to hold just about the same things and maybe a few other sundries including a small pill box that holds two days worth of necessary Rx meds. I don't want to risk any reason I might not be back aboard and want some spare medications with me.

Those Baggalini small cross body bags are great. :)

Just make sure it doesn't have a magnetic clasp-I had to get my card renewed twice, because the magnet kept cancelling it!

Some people are quite happy to wear the lanyard, while others complain that it looks a little .... well, geeky.

I carry my phone (only to use as a camera), sunglasses, lipstick, card and casino chips (if I'm lucky enough to have them still!). A little cross body bag is perfect! (The smaller the better)

Beware of the magnetic clasp!

I stick it in my pocket.

Mrs Gut either uses a Lanyard o a cross body bag. That she uses in Port.

In Port I use a cross body bag too, that can hold the junk I'm likely to take with me and saves emptying my pockets when going through security, just take the bag off.

Sail7seas....you bring up a good point about meds and missing the ship....I don't carry a bag but have a small plastic box that holds several cards and my license....I tie it to my swimsuit and it has worked very well for me for years.....last year we went to st john from St Thomas and decided to leave the important meds in the safe with a note asking that they be retrieved if the worst happens and they come to check for passports....I am hoping that every ship would have that policy....

i have a very small tote bag that I carry around the ship. I have my Card in a lanyard and tie it to the strap ( doesn't get lost and easy to pull out to swipe.) The tote also carries the other things that I "need" for the day: bottle of water, sunblock, Kindle, camera, etc.

I also have a wristlet for evenings, a cross body bag that I use for ports that I'll be walking around, and a waterproof bag that is wearable for water excursions.

I have a small cross-body bag that I take on cruises. It holds the key, the camera, and the daily schedule while I am on the ship. When on land, I take a bigger purse.
