5 1/2? That's it? I get 6 plus 12 holidays. But nevermind that I work 50-60 hours a week on average when you consider nights, weekends and working when I'm on vacation. lol. With two kids, we booked two large balcony rooms that connect on Escape in a few weeks. our PCC said we'd probably get an upsell offer soon but even if we did, and they gave us the option to move to one room in the Haven (which I heard they will not do), I'd probably stay with what we have for the cabin and balcony space. Can just buy all that other stuff for the price difference. But I agree, suite would be nice.

Would you rather cruise EVERY year if your finances permitted, but you can only stay in a balcony or skip every other year and stay in a suite?

Definitely a suite every other year. If we should go back to balconies, I should only think about the sweet suitelife and wouldn't be able to enjoy my cruise.

Even if the suite cost twice as much as a balcony it's much more economical for me to cruise less but in a suite if I add airfare, hotel before and after and other extra costs.

Geez. I "only" get 4 1/2 weeks vacation and 12 holidays. 6 would be nice, but no way would I agree to work the schedule you said. I never work over 40 hours, and never work weekends, or nights. I also would never work on vacation. But to me time is WAY more valuable than money. So to each his own.

I only have 5 weeks of vacation time...and two long cruises / year (next week's is for 14 days) in a suite suits me fine. We usually do a few days shoreside before and/or after...

I enjoy the luxury component, and time is more important to me than money. Not wasting my vacation in line-ups, or trying to get reservations when the place is 'full' are not my cup of tea. I like that somebody else knows how to fulfill my wishes.

.

Only 5 weeks vacation time? AHAHAHAHA I get 10 days a year and that includes sick days. We take 2 cruises a year one in winter on Gem in a PH and the one in the summer we take on Carnival in a balcony (we get it free from our land casino). If I couldn't afford a suite I would definitely take a balcony cabin just to cruise. Especially on Carnival as the room is just a room no perks. I have to admit I would miss the breakfast and lunch in Cagneys tremendously

I would rather cruise more.

I have gone from suite back to balcony and have had just as great a time.

I am very low keyed and really don't need a butler. I make my own

reservations.

If you watch the promotions you can still get perks.

Its not so much a matter of more hours for more money but the job/lifestyle I have. I don't clock in and out. I am on call often. And so my schedule is pretty flexible. I can go to kids events in the middle of the day or doctor appointments. My 50-60 isn't always isn't always intensely focused on performing a task or job but being available and answering questions for people here and there. Or brainstorming on projects on my off time at home which I enjoy. And it involves frequent work travel. When I do go on a vacation, I 95% check out. But being there for that 5% gives me flexibility I wouldn't have otherwise. Funny thing is, working that 50-60 also allows me to be home more for my kids than many people are given the hours I work so I enjoy it.

I would rather cruise more often. I dream of the suite life, but will not pay the price. There are great deals on suites when 3rd and 4th free is offered, except it has been during a time that my high school child can't get away. One day-maybe on a longer cruise.

My goal this year is to add a winter vacation, so I can get away 3 times a year.

You'll get mad at me if I say twice/year, in a suite.... :o :o :o

People ask me why I work so hard.... I answer twice/year, in a suite. ;)

Stephen

.

Stephen, it must be nice! I like the way you think.

But, alas...

Since I am not Stephen, I choose to cruise less often in a suite. I supplement with other getaways. Next month to Red Rock Resort and Spa in Vegas for 5 days. Will do pools and a spa day with an awesome massage. Last cruise was April 2015. Next is Feb 2017. I am ok with that. (I was at Red Rock in Sept. 2015 so that was nice.)

But, as I know what I would be missing on NCL it's a suite or nothing.

In fact, I really appreciate the suite on a port-intensive cruise as well... returning back to the ship tired and then taking a bubble bath in the jetted tub first, changing into my PJs second, and then having the butler deliver Le Bistro... well, that's just perfection!

I'd rather sail more often in a crappy cabin than to pay thousands for a suite. Other than the room, the rest of the cruise is pretty much the same.

Have you cruised in a suite?

There are plenty of other differences than the room.

Crabcakes Benedict, anyone?

"I only have five weeks vacation ". Wow.

I have 37 days of vacation this year, and Friday only counts as a half day, since we get off at 2:30 p.m. on Fridays. That comes out to over 8 weeks.

Ah, if I only had more money I would cruise 4-6x a year in a suite.

Yesterday was my 25th anniversary at my job. I am so blessed to have landed here.

I've never stayed in a suite but I am familiar with the perks and how lovely it is. I'd still choose to go more frequently on a balcony. I need cruise vacations to be a part of my yearly life!

First off, it is GREAT to be back on the boards again. Haven't been on since my last cruise in Nov of 2014(Man, has it really been that long?) So, just booked another cruise yesterday (7 day Mexican Riviera) I now have that warm fuzzy feeling inside that I haven't had in a while.(You all know what I mean after you book a cruise)

Our last cruise we booked a suite(just to see what it's all about....It was AWESOME) Because of finances, we had to book a balcony this time.(But, I am still looking at surprising the family and upgrading to a suite, IF the price can come down a bit)

So this got me thinking and I'll ask my question and to answer I really think you need to have stayed in a suite to answer(but I'll take anyone's comments ;) .......

I would do the balcony. It's about the experience and I love the MDR for breakfast!
