Hotels in Sydney Australia

I am currently looking out the window of the Shangri La at the Noordam berthed at the Sydney Overseas Passenger Terminal. (We disembarked this morning).

Hotels with a view of the harbour in Sydney are expensive. If price is not a problem, there is Shangri La, Four Seasons or Marriott. You will need to request a harbour view room. Depending on time of year expect to pay $500 pn. (Full breakfast included).

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Darling Harbour using reward points. We loved the location.

It was very convenient to the monorail, the Japanese gardens, and on our high floor we had a nice view of Darling Harbor. We were there for Australia Day and watched fireworks from our window.

Breakfast was very nice, but there is also a McDonald's right across the street if you want a cheap coffee.

Check out my favorite, the Bed and Breakfast Sydney Harbour. You don't have a view of the harbour, but you have a super location in the Rocks (and a delicious cooked breakfast). Some of their ensuite rooms are still available for those dates at AUD 300 - 350 per night. (But some rooms are booked out, so you might want to book sooner than later.)

Some research on the Australia boards, here:

and here:

would be beneficial and relevant. Good luck with getting a harbor view without giving up a few appendages...

Can anyone recommend a good hotel with or without breakfast? Harbor view would be nice.
The Park Hyatt, without doubt. You can even easily walk to the Overseas Passenger Terminal from there, if you have wheelie luggage.

(Oh, did someone mention losing arms and legs?)

We stayed at the Sir Stamford Circular Quay. It was a huge room and less than a 10 minute walk to Circular Quay. Service was excellent and the upper suites had a view of the opera house (we didn't stay in those). The hotel is across the street from the botanical gardens. You could include breakfast, or not. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Here are a few pictures to show the size of the room. The bathroom had separate shower, toilet and tub (it was HUGE).

Just around that corner and voila - you are at Circular Quay.

The inside of the hotel looks like this (if you want modern décor this is not the hotel for you):

Will be in Sydney Dec 2-7, 2016 before cruising on the Noordam. Can anyone

recommend a good hotel with or without breakfast? Harbor view would be nice.

Thanks

We loved The Pier One Sydney Harbour. At the foot of the bridge, serious harbor view and wonderful breakfast. It was built in 1912 but quite remodeled since.:D (Thumbnail)

Another plus ... we were able to check-in at 7:30am without even asking for early.

Cheers!

A year ago we stayed at the Marriott Pier One Sydney Harbour. Very nice hotel, different. Easy walk under the bridge to the Circular Quay cruise dock and tourist area. We enjoyed it very much and would definitely go back.

The Sydney Monorail closed in 2013. Not sure if that makes travel between the city centre and Darling Harbour difficult.

Well, that's a darn shame. It was a great little form of transportation.

No, the hotel is still very convenient. On Australia Day, parts of the monorail were shut down, so we walked to the harbor.

I don't know what type of accommodation the OP is looking for, but we searched for and found a very comfortable small hotel 2 train stops from the Quay. We wanted a kitchenette and a king bed, found one for 7 nights at under $900 AUD in November 2013, The Central Railway Hotel, found through booking dot com.

The room was en suite, had a couch and table, dresser, closet, king size bed, kitchenette with frig, small stove and microwave, plus all utensils, but was otherwise not large and no view.

They offered free WIFI and a common furnished patio, self-service laundry but not much in the way of amenities. The staff were very helpful with information and we thought the location was quite good, just a 3-5 minute walk from the train station and from a large grocery store.

We took a cab to the pier (Circular Quay) the day of cruise departure... actually we checked out and had the hotel hold our luggage that morning, enjoyed our morning walking along MacQuairy (sp?) Street to the Quay, checked in at our ship, had lunch on board, took the train back to our hotel (the end of our multi-day transit pass) picked up our luggage and hailed a cab back to the pier. It all worked out so nicely and the timing was perfect, no line anywhere. Loved, loved, loved Sydney!

If you want a Harbour view, we had a great view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and also the Opera House from our room at the Intercontinental when we did a land trip. For a pre-cruise stay we used the Holiday Inn Old Sydney. While the location in The Rocks area was extremely close to where our ship docked at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, our view didn't compare to the Intercontinental. We also had a "Harbour view" room at the Holiday Inn. Technically this was correct as we could indeed see Circular Quay - if we stood at the small, high window next to the bathroom. The hotel is only a block or so from the terminal. We were close enough to tell that a couple in one of the suites should have at least closed the sheers that morning as the ship was pulling in. ;)

We found a fantastic Bed and Breakfast for $ 170 Australian a night.. We stayed at the Verona Guest House in Glebe which is an inner suburb of Sydney next to Darling Harbor. The Verona Guesthouse is a mid1800 Terrace House beautifully restored. There are eight guest rooms all with ensuite bathrooms. The house was spotlessly clean, breakfast was included, and you could make tea or coffee and have a snack when you returned to the guesthouse at night. There was very fast, free, high speed wifi. We had two different bedrooms since we stayed both pre and post cruise. Both rooms were clean and bright. The beds are double beds (smaller than queen size). There are two floors with no elevator so if this is a problem ask for the first floor. The Guesthouse is located on 224 Glebe Point Road, a very cute residential area with lots of restaurants and close to a pretty sea walk. There is a bus stop right across the street to take you to Central Staion or Martin Square where the bus terminates. There is also the light rail stop which will get you to Darling Harbor and forward to Central Staion. The buses were every half hour and we had no trouble using the bus or light rail. We got an opal card at the airport and you just tapped on and off. It was a $20 taxi ride to the cruise terminal at White Bay.

We booked at hotel.com pre cruise and with the guesthouse post cruise. If you can, book with this guest house directly since these small establishments do lose a lot of the room charge to the Internet booking agencies. Verona Guesthouse website is veronaglebe.com and their email is guesthouse@veronaglebe.com Australian phone number is 62-2-9660-8975 the Verona Guest House has excellent reviews on trip advisor. If you contact Them tell them Sparky and Colin recommended them.

We stayed at the Radisson Inn and Suites on Liverpool street. This hotel located on edge of China Town is within walking distance of Darling Harbor and a large shopping center complete with full service grocery. There is also a large food court and a bakery. Our room had free wifi, a balcony, wonderful king bed. The bathroom was very nice with large glassed in tub and shower. The room also had a small but complete kitchen. Call up front desk and they will send up a dish pack and silverware. The area had many sidewalk cafes and bars. The hotel was a block from bus stop which took you to Botanical Garden and Opera House. We took cab to ship. That took less than 10 minutes and cost very reasonable. The staff at hotel was wonderful and helpful. The cost for our 3 nite stay appox. $550.00

I vote with Mary Ellen for the Intercontinental. The views!! Don't know if they are still offering it, but business class rooms when I stayed there included a huge buffet breakfast AND evening happy hour with a choice of several free drinks and tasty hors d'oeuvres. Those snacks were filling enough for dinner. My only mistake was thinking the breakfast/happy hour room (which has spectacular views and indoor/outdoor seating) had free drinks ALL day and the first day I was charged $90 for 2 mimosas. Recommend unique Pier One Sydney Harbour for a waterfront position on Sydney Harbour.

It is built on one of the restored wharves over the water, so you can watch the harbour water activity from your bedroom. A bonus is that it is close to Sydney Theatre Company theatres and my favourite Bicycle Cafe.

Thank you all for your wonderful response to my Hotel question. I looked at the Hotels you mentioned and then I went and booked the Intercontinental

Sydney. Got a terrific price for 5 nights including breakfast for a King, with Bridge and Harbor View Room.

Thank you all.

Expensive, as you say arms and legs territory, cost OP nearly as much as one persons cruise fare.

If you want something more reasonably priced The Grace, in York Street is nice and in a Goid position, but no views.

We are huge fans of the Holiday Inn, The Rocks. Sometimes prices can be great.
