Collector's Cruise info

We've sailed several B2B cruises and understand the benefits. We are on Westerdam 18 OCT Mexico cruise out of Vancouver. After we booked HAL opened up the Vancouver to San Diego to Vancouver leg as a Pacific Coastal.

Will this then make our 11 night a "Collector Cruise" to get the few extra perks that come with a Collector?

A Collector's Cruise usually has a single booking number and is considered a single cruise; a B2B usually has 2 different booking numbers, one for each leg or portion.

On our only Collector's cruise in May and June 2013 on Prinsendam there was nothing special about it perk-wise that I can recall. We even had to disembark and re-embark for the 0 count at the end of the first leg and attend the muster drill. We may have gotten a nicer cloth shopping bag but I really don't remember anything else, so if there was something it wasn't too remarkable. :D

What exactly is a collectors cruise and what are the perks associated with them?

A Collector's Cruise is when HAL takes two (or more) cruises and allows booking on each or booking as one longer cruise with one booking number.

Usually a special lunch (sometimes Indonesian) in the PG and another dinner in the PG. We had these on Zuiderdam- different cruises have different perks.

I've had the Indonesian buffet associated with a collectors cruise accouple times but it was in the MDR. The only lunch I've had in the pinnacle of that sort was when I've sailed in a Neptune suite.

It is a collector's cruise only if HAL says it is and then they would say what extras might be offered. I would not expect Vancouver to Mexican Riviera to be a collector's cruise. We were on one in Europe and it combined the Baltic and Norway cruises for more than 20 days and it was advertised as such by HAL.

We have done quite a few Collector Cruises.

The only perk we have ever gotten was the Indonesian lunch in the main dining room on a sea day the second part of the Collectors Cruise. And one time the lunch was open to all passengers so on that cruise -- nothing special.

Never got a free dinner or anything else.

We've done many Collector's and the exact one the OP is doing.

That one was a few years ago, before HAL started to clear-cut the perks associated with Collector's cruises (and everything else).

At that time we got a special cocktail party, the Indonesian lunch and a plate of chocolates. Used to get a better quality bag and a Pinnacle Dinner if not the Indonesian lunch.

Last year's Alaska Collectors offered similar perks.

Now, I would not get my hopes up. I do feel it is a ship by ship thing, not at all consistent throughout the fleet.

Hope the OP does well: we might be booking that cruise!

By the way: the ships do not distinguish between one booking number (Collector's) and two booking numbers (back-to-back) for these perks.

We were in a NS so maybe the PG lunch was for that.

We did that one a couple (few?) years ago, and had one booking number. We got nothing extra in the way of perqs.

As others have said, it is a collectors voyage if HAL advertises it as such. Onboard future cruise consultants have said that HAL discounts the total price of collector's voyages by about 10% over what you would pay for the two segments separately. Otherwise, there is nothing special. I have taken a couple but have never really checked out the fare.

Until a couple of years ago the discounts were quite good. Lately, there are fewer cruises designated Collector's and the discount is quite small

We have three consecutive cruises on the same ship here in Alaska. There was no Collector Cruise designation n our three booking numbers but we have an invitation for a free Tamarind dinner for two for being on a "Collector" cruise.

  • 2 months later...

Has anyone booked 2 different staterooms for a collector's trip, moving to a new stateroom mid-cruise ?

I'm considering the Auckland-Honolulu collector voyage in March 2017 and the stateroom I desire is available only the 2nd leg Sydney-Honolulu. I would like to book a separate staterooms for the 1st Auck-Syd leg then voluntarily move to a new stateroom on the 2nd leg. HAL is willing to book this as 2 separate cruises but this would be more expensive than having this as one collector cruise. Any thoughts ?

This is when a GOOD travel agent is worth their weight in gold. If you have a TA or PCC let them know your desires and have them negotiate with HAL on your behalf.

It is my understanding that HAL will NOT let you change cabins on a Collectors'cruise. If you are booked under one booking number they want you in the same cabin.

For the OP: Frank, there was a nice PG luncheon on the Prinsendam cruise that 0bnxshs and we were on. It was for the Neptune Suites, so very few people got the advantage of that.

The nice bag they used to give for the Collectors is no longer given out.

On our cruise on the Westerdam that we just got off, the Captain gave a free PG lunch/dinner to those that had stayed on. It wasn't advertised. We only found out as we were booking and were told. It was the first time I have seen this.

There is a significant savings in our cabin category on our upcoming 30 day cruise. The two segments are about 20% more for our category compared to paying for the Collectors.

Like all things on HAL, depending upon the ship, the sailing and the managing staff, your mileage may vary ;)

Our most recent HAL Cruise this year Western Europe & Norse Legends turned out to be a "Collector's Cruise" I had no idea....the HAL cruise consultant never mentioned it when I booked it on board....she was something of a turn off anyway.

We had an Indonesian lunch...which was outstanding; we had two Mariner pre brunch ceremonies and the brunches. The 2nd brunch we were called to be sure we were attending, and when we arrived a person from Guest Relations checked us off her list and assigned us to a waiter who escorted us to a large round table...we were becoming alarmed as we were not due for any awards at this time. Other guests at our table were honored for large numbers of sea days, and it was the most enjoyable Mariner Brunch ever. Still don't know how we scored such attention. We were also invited to 2 cocktail parties.

I was on a collector's cruise a few years ago on the Zuiderdam:

  • No discount
  • Two booking numbers
  • Two different cabins
  • Two different cabin mates
  • One cocktail party
  • One (maybe two?) Pinnacle Grill dinners
  • No special tote

Obviously, it's all different/hit and miss. :p:D

If you had two booking numbers, you were booked as a B2B, not as a Collectrs Cruise. You had two segments booked together. A Collectors has only one booking number for the total # of days for the cruise.

We returned from our 24 night Zuiderdam cruise a month ago. One booking reference and on board it was called a collector's cruise rather than a b2b.

A special lunch was offered which we didn't attend as we prefer lunch in the Lido. Nothing else of benefit.

In fact classing it as a b2b would have been preferable... the bottle of wine which I brought on board the first week was not given back until the end of the 2nd segment. I also checked at guest relations and found out that I wasn't allowed to bring on the 2 bottles of wine on the embarkation day for the 2nd segment.

On my recent Collector's cruise on the Westerdam [Mar-May 56 days 21+35] I received a Pinnacle dinner and a dish of candy [before second half].

The PG dinner was acknowledged during the first segment [which was fortunate - as I was joining a group for the second segment] and I was able to use it during that wide-open dining choice instead of abandoning my group one evening.

True, I booked it as 2 cruises (B2B). Once onboard, HAL called it a Collectors Cruise. The cocktail party invite and Pinnacle Grill dinner(s) said they were for the Collector's Cruise.

that's a good thing (that you got the invites and dinners). I pointed it out as you mentioned a couple of things - like:

- different cabins for the two different segment that could have led some to believe they could do that.

- no discount in price.

Different cabins are not permitted on a Collectors Cruise. But it is done all the time on a B2B (which is what you booked). And,of course there would be no discount since it was a B2B and not booked as a Collectors. ;)
