Change in Carnival Loyalty Program

People can say they do not cruise for the perks but perks do make it better and more reason to stay within the Carnival family when perks come with you.

That's true. I like to think that doesn't affect my decisions but, just last night I walked past my wife and saw she was looking at cruises on her tablet and the first thing I thought was 'Hey...all we need is 7 nights this year and we'll turn gold on our April 2018 cruise!"

lol, nobody looks forward to gold...but it does mean only 50 away from platinum!

A year ago I didn't know these things existed and now I have them in my head.

Kind of based on previous experience. They promise us a new and improved Brilliant loyalty program and all they did was take stuff away.

Not completely true. With the creation of FTTF they added being able to go to your cabin as soon as you board to Platinum/Diamond.

Really? I might have to start looking into NCL then. Thanks for that info.

One thing I've noticed lately is that while Carnival has almost stopped the practice of last minute sales to fill empty cabins, NCL and RCCL have not. I've seen really good deals from both NCL and RCCL lately that beat Carnival's fares hands down.

I wonder if this is because of Early Saver. Because if all the people who booked ES caught wind of the last minute deals, Carnival would be out a lot of change.

The problem with the NCL program is that so many people are at the highest level and it means less. You will feel that way if and when you have 20 cruises, the benefits won't feel like much.

There are thousands of platinums on Carnival too. Not sure what's your point? There isn't that much difference for Carnival Diamonds.

And to think people want the "top" tiers spread across the Carnival brand, when it's already very easy to get there individually- CRUISE MORE. Yeah- multiply the numbers of all the Carnival Platinums and add to all the other lines?

I bet if they spread it across all the Carnival brands, they would change the categories and make it mire difficult to reach diamond/platinum level. I imagine it would be WAY harder to get to the highest level of perks for this exact reason -- too many perks for too many cruisers.

They might or they might not.

We found that we liked Princess for European cruises' date=' kind of like CCL used to be and do miss the perks[/quote']

I looked into Princess for our Aug. Med. cruise, but they didn't have the dates/itinerary we wanted, so went to NCL. I have no loyalty to anyone anymore (except dh!!) so cruising for perks really means little to me - except the free laundry on CCL rocks!!

We do miss the free laundry. Very strange to have to do laundry twice for a two week cruise on Princess.

Have come to enjoy the Diamond party though.

I highly doubt it. You really think doubling+++ the amounts of people getting those perks- that do have costs involved- is going to be a popular corporate option?

Well many people start out at a lower price cruise line like Carnival and as they get older and want to see the world will want to go elsewhere such as Princess or HA.

Giving loyalty accross the corp would be a way of keeping customers under corporate umbrella.

Do I think it will happen? Unfortunatel not.

Hi there

For the Carnival cruisers who are holding their breath hoping that the company will give them something for free, I think it is just wishful thinking.

What can they offer you that will induce you to take a Seabourn cruise. A load of laundry! :D Really!

So, what about those Cunard cruisers who have worked their way up the ladder with that cruise line. Maybe they should get a free cruise if they decide on sailing with Carnival. What can you suggest that would seem fair for them.

If you want to sail with HAL, or Princess you don't really need them to throw you a bone. Just book a cruise with HAL, or Princess. If you find you like those cruise lines continue sailing with them and eventually you will earn your perks, the same way those who have been sailing with those cruise lines have been doing.

If you can afford a cruise you can afford to pay for a load of laundry or a drink.

The reason I don't believe they will change their programs is because they don't need to and if they did "tinker" with them, I am sure it would just upset a whole lot of people. People are just never satisfied.

I would think that it would be good for them to get people who start with their budget line CCL move on up to Princess, HAL or another.

Those people who are ready to "move up" (that is if you really consider it a move up, let's just call it a change) will move up.

If they thought that they needed to go on a "budget" cruise with Carnival when they were younger and now want to experience something different and have been cruising for some time, they would likely be in a better financial position now. So if they want to sail on Hal, Cunard, or Seabourn, they would. I can't believe that some free drink or a free load of laundry would make a difference.

That's what I meant when I said that the reason I don't believe they will change the program is because they don't need to.

If people using Carnival want to move up in class think it would be more attractive to stay in the family if their perks came with it. Otherwise Celebrity or RCCL might be their choice.

I agree if you're Red or Gold the perks are negligible and I would feel the same way (although I was quite miffed when they took the PG party away from Golds). But if you're Platinum or on the cusp of Platinum, or Diamond, then there's a lot more at stake.

I'm not sure I agree w/ that. I think as another poster mentioned perks should also be gauged by a variety of other things. We only book balconies or suites and drop an average of $1500 in the spa, few hundred in the casino, about $1k on shore excursions .. on every cruise. Personally, I think you should be rewarded by what you spend and. Or solely on # of days. JS

I also like the idea of getting rewarded based on all of their lines together ... not just the particular line. That's one reason we've stayed Carnival only. Not interested in starting g over ... yet, they ar all the same company. 😒

I agree.... I am ready to at least try another line other than Carnival and have been eyeing a few on Princess, HAL, RCCL, and NCL... I can tell you that if my platinum status carried over on a Princess or HAL booking, it would make me more than likely to choose one of those 2 over NCL or RCCL when I do branch out. As it stands now, all 4 have equal opportunity to attract my $$$$$.

You are missing out on some great other lines. Carnivals perks are not all that great anyways. MSC will do a status match.

Maybe Carnival will do what Royal/Celebrity/Azamara does and offer reciprocity based on your level, but you don't earn points across brands. But I can go board a Celebrity ship as a RCI Diamond member and get a similar level of perks for use on that Celebrity cruise.

All I can say= is I don't get it. Posts above don't make their cruise choices to places they want to go and hesitate or completely dismiss going with another line- because of a few perks??? You've got to be kidding. :) :) :)

I cruise where I want to go, and spend my money on firm choices with no regard to any perks I may or may not get. There is no way, I'm going to stay twirling around in the Caribbean,, if I want to go to Europe or South America, (which I cruise in next month)

Everyone is different- and priorities are all over the place. :)

OK you have your choice of two cruise lines going to same place. Never been on either. Price and itinerary about the same.

One gives you the perks you have earned on a sister line the other treats you as a rookie cruiser.

In that case it is easy to see that perks give one line the edge.
