This obsession of yours - insulting those who report smoking - is starting to border on insanity. Grow up and accept that most others don't agree with you.

Its insulting to non smokers that I asked how many calls GS takes about smokers? [emoji848]

Fine, maybe your reaction to being next to them would have been vastly different....we chose to work out a solution that was good for us....why would you care?

Did you consider that there was a neighbour on the other side of these "considerate smokers"? Did they work it out with them also?

What are you suggesting, that I am responsible for the neighbor 2 doors down? Maybe I should be the deck monitor and police the entire deck? I would ASSUME if the neighbor on the other side of the smoker didn't like it, he/she should have asked him to stop or reported it or did whatever he/she felt needed to be done....you seem to really be reaching on your questions, it's a bit ridiculous

Because I might be on the balcony on the other side;). Enabling them to violate the rules isn't a solution, no matter how you spin it.

I had a nice cruise with nice balcony neighbors. If you were on the balcony on the other side and it bothered you, grow a sack and do something about it. Don't hide behind me expecting me to be your mouthpiece

Oh, you needn't worry, if I were smelling the smoke I'd be doing something about it.;)

And I would have more respect for you and the way you handled it than the other poster who expects me to say something on his/her behalf

School age? Gestapo? Hiding? PC Police? These are all names you've used today to describe those who report to GS. You're only proving why people can't confront others when they do wrong. The wrong doers are incapable of admitting their faults - just like what you're displaying right now.

Yep! :)

Saying someone is hiding is considered calling someone a name? PC Police is a phrase we can't say anymore....Cruz, stop being so sensitive....grow up, be an adult....get over the fact that if someone disagrees with the way YOU think or differs from your opinion, doesn't make them wrong....if someone smokes in a place that they aren't supposed to smoke, I DONT CARE THAT MUCH!!!! Got it? You need to grow a thicker skin if you are that bothered by someone saying you are hiding....if you don't like something that is happening, OWN IT, stand up for yourself and your beliefs, as opposed to hiding and making anonymous phone calls [emoji106]

hut, hut, hike.

edit: I wouldn't spend my whole vacation reporting it. I'd report it and expect Carnival to handle it and give them the opportunity to do so. *IF* I need to report it again, I will, but hopefully it will be resolved by that point. If I'm met with eye rolling at guest services and ineffective service I'll speak to the Hotel Director and let them know I paid a premium for a balcony in a non-smoking area and I can't use it because of a smoking neighbor. I'd then propose a number of solutions and see if / how they would like to help resolve it. At the end of the day, they want happy guests. My first Carnival cruise was in 1992, and now that all of my cruises are with a family I'm willing to bet they'd like to keep our business. Asking them to enforce their own rules regarding smoking is really not a stretch or putting them out.

And if that makes you happy, have at it.....a lot of people paid a "premium" for a balcony, you aren't that special

Would you mind changing the location in your profile to a different state?

That's right. I am not special. Everyone with a balcony paid for a non-smoking balcony. We all have to abide by the same rules. That includes smokers. If they are in a non-smoking area, they are expected to refrain from smoking. This is an extremely simple concept.

Yes we did pay a Premium for our balcony with the expectation that No Smoking is allowed on said balcony and that the only smoking on the ship is in designated locations. That's what we paid for and that is absolutely what is expected.

If you want to smoke on your balcony then you need to find a Cruiseline that allows it. It's exactly that simple!

And over and over again I said if you want to report it, have at it....I chose to handle it another way and it worked for me....you and some other posters seemed to be bothered and/or annoyed that I am not handling the situation as you would....who are you to dictate to me how I handle a situation [emoji849]

There is already a spirited debate in another thread regarding balcony smoking; vigorous and civil debate can be held there.

This is a basic yes / no poll.

If you are on your balcony and a neighbor is smoking, would you report the smoker to GS / Security?

Yes, in a New York minute!!!

I haven't once told you how to handle it.

Not have I tried to insult you or called you names for how you handled it. Please check again before attempting to put words in my mouth.

I don't smoke....haven't for a long time....if Carnival tomorrow implemented a no smoking policy....GREAT, works for me. When responding to the OPS question of would I call GS if I saw someone smoking, no. It doesn't bother me

Are we back in elementary school? For all that say yes are you going to police the serenity area, the chair hogs and the dress code in the dining room? I just believe either all rules are enforced or none. You simply cannot pick and choose.

I'm looking out for my health, I have asthma. I don't care about the chair hogs, and the dress code, just my health.

If there is a cleaning fee, when would they do it, and what would they actually clean? Could we watch them do it? (I doubt they do anything) They should just call it a "fine".

© Any and all forms of smoking, including but not limited to, cigarettes, cigars, electronic cigarettes, and personal vaporizers, are strictly prohibited onboard except in designated exterior open deck areas, certain night clubs, and designated areas in the casino. All staterooms and suite accommodations are entirely smoke free, including the outside balcony (Effective October 9, 2014). Guest agrees to strictly comply with Carnival’s non-smoking policy. Guest further acknowledges and agrees that any violation of this policy shall, in the sole discretion of Carnival, constitute a material breach of this cruise contract. In the event of such breach, Guest forfeits all rights hereunder, including the right to remain on board. Carnival reserves the right to disembark the Guest(s), at any port, as determined by Carnival. Carnival shall not be liable for any refund or other compensation or damages whatsoever to any Guest disembarked pursuant to this provision, or who disembarks because another Guest is so disembarked, and all such Guests forfeit all rights under Carnival’s “Vacation Guarantee.” Guest and Carnival further agree that any violation of the non-smoking policy would also cause Carnival to incur damages, including but not limited to, loss of guest goodwill, revenue, cleaning, maintenance and/or other costs. Guest and Carnival expressly acknowledge the difficulty of ascertaining the amount of such damages, and therefore agree that a reasonable estimate of the damages for any violation of the non-smoking policy is $250 USD. Guest authorizes a charge in this amount as liquidated damages, as well as repatriation expenses (including airfare) against Guest’s on board charge account, without further notice, for any violation of the non-smoking policy.

I do not see where the contract you agree to calls it solely a 'cleaning fee'.

However when all is said and done, whether you are a smoker or not, abide by a rule or not, violate only those that inconvenience you, or report those that break rules, the entire thing comes down to this: You agreed to a contract and if you breach it you are wrong. There is no grey area here and they can kick your butts (pun intended) off the ship. Will they? Highly doubtful but I look forward to the day they start doing so. Maybe then people will begin to realize that rules do apply to THEM.

Could you imagine the nightmare it would be for someone if they got kicked off at a foreign port and did not have a passport.
