  1. 1. Would you report another guest smoking on their balcony?

    • Yes, I would call Guest Services / Security
    • No, I would not call Guest Services / Security

As an adult, I like to own what I do, not act like a school age tattletale and hide anonymously behind security.

....give it a try, it may work as opposed to playing the gestapo tactics, calling GS, and not trying to talk to people to work out a compromise

This sounds like blaming the victim. When another person is breaking the rules and a rule abiding person is bothered by it, how can the rule abiding person be referred to as these nasty things? That's just not right.

Who did I blame???? I said I wasn't bothered by it, but my wife would be. The neighbor complied. I gave a recommendation, I didn't dictate to others they can't call GS. I would own the situation in this case. If others don't want to, whatever winds your watch, have at it

I was referring to your tattletale, gestapo and hiding anonymously comments. If folks want to avoid a confrontation by calling GS, great. I think it's a little extreme to use these terms...especially when they're not the ones in the wrong.

By calling GS, aren't you essentially hiding anonymously? Wouldn't you agree that by calling GS, the person is avoiding confrontation (it is a stretch to just assume it's a negative confrontation) are we that PC that we cannot call it exactly what it is? OK, the gestapo was a bit of literary license, so I will take that out....everything else I said was true, wasn't it?

If they seemed like decent people I might chime in politely letting them know that smoking wasn't allowed and I would hate for someone to report them and to get a fine (even if that someone happened to be me). But if they were the kind of people that slammed their doors, argued a lot, and are generally obnoxious, I would let GS/Security handle it. After all, they know where I live for the week, and I don't need them to ruin my vacation. I have heard of plenty of people that have had that happen and I'm not willing to take that chance.

No, no and no. I don't care what people smoke or where they smoke it. I don't care what they do on their balcony as long as they aren't throwing somebody off of it. If I think someone is getting hurt or needs help I would call someone. Other than that- I stay out it.

As much as I wish it was still 20 years ago when 2 men could work out a simple dispute and go on to be best friends, those days are sadly gone. And trust me, I hate PC with passion. But nowadays, I do not blame people for taking the anonymous road. I certainly wouldn't attach any dysphemisms to it.

Tattletale? We're you ever in 5th grade and when the teacher turned their back, little Johnny shot a spitball....if little Jenny told the teacher, wasn't that a tattletale? I am just saying what it is. Seems like the reach of the PC police are everywhere....it's ok to be it, but we can't say what it is????

I would never report someone for smoking on their balcony. If people are allowed to smoke in designated areas of the bars, casinos, and pool area, around people who don't smoke, what difference does it make. How about you can ONLY smoke on your balcony and not pollute the public areas? Now that's a thought!😀🤗

I disagree, people can still talk....if you feel differently, that is your opinion....I feel if you earn a certain label by your actions, you get to be called out on it. That is my opinion

That has been MY thought ever since the balcony smoking has been disallowed. Only on the balconies, I say, or strictly prohibit indoor smoking (including the casino)

Well...if that's the case, labels can't only work one way. The offender must also, at minimum, come with an equal label.

Sure, have at it....the person who was smoking on the next balcony over, I labeled him and his wife "considerate smokers"....they got to indulge in their vice conveniently for them, the wife and I got to enjoy our balcony....win/win....Aqua, let me give you this scenario, you go up to the Serenity Deck, all the lounge chairs are taken. You come back an hour later, same few lounge chairs are there, same towel in same spot on the lounge chair....you calling GS? (Keep me honest, I believe the"rule" is 40 mins, not certain)

I am well aware of that point. I made a recommendation, not a decree. As an adult, I like to own what I do, not act like a school age tattletale and hide anonymously behind security. I do realize that is an option tho

If there is a violation of a rule the best thing possible is to let the staff know so they have the opportunity to handle it. That's not being a "school age tattletale".

What would you have done if he didn't accept your compromise that he abide the rules with your wife present? I'm guessing you would have informed the staff and expected them to correct the issue. That's a reasonable and logical position.

It is 2016 and you never know if the guy next to you is going to go off and make your trip a nightmare just because you asked they abide by the rules. Why risk the chances of that?

Best-

Steve (not anonymous like you)

Ill have at it with the titles for people smoking on balconies... rule breakers, self-entitled, self-absorbed, arrogant

(these are just for people who know the rule)

If those chairs are the only choice because all others are taken, I'd talk to the attendant and I'd have them do what's right. I'm not going to track down the offender and confront them.

So, you like getting phone calls at 2:00 am, or a knock on your door and no one is there, or some other devious acts against you because you confronted a passenger who has put your life in danger by smoking. I don't want to go on any cruise with my spurs on. Security is there for a reason. No one wants to be shown the door at the next port.

You "labeled" GS callers as all kinds of derogatory names. So it's time to take your own advice and "own the situation." If you want to call the people names who aren't doing anything wrong, you need to be able to take what comes back....sheesh.

School age? Gestapo? Hiding? PC Police? These are all names you've used today to describe those who report to GS. You're only proving why people can't confront others when they do wrong. The wrong doers are incapable of admitting their faults - just like what you're displaying right now.

Times of change are tough. I do not anticipate ever getting a balcony where smoking is allowed at this point...one never knows about a river cruise in Europe or something where allowed..I guess a few situations including being gifted could come up. But with allergies from living in hay and dry Mt. ranching country and bread basket Willamette Valley with pollen mold and dust...cigarette smoke has always added to the problem. And I am sicker allergy wise in eyes and throat and just needing the "heavy stuff" steroid sprays..more allergy Rx's etc with smoke. I try to engage folks when in a smoking situation and they are polite...but it is just getting rougher and rougher as I age and way more that just "the smell". Bottom line...I will only pay for a non-smoking Balcony and expect it to be so now. Also living in the lands of forest fires with some nasty nasty smoky summers as of late..no illusions about a cigarette flipped over balcony under influence of alcohol..and all bad things aligning. Tell the staff..hope one is not the only one for the good neighbor feeling.

This part of life I hate.
