Time to buy CCL stock?

If only I had a crystal ball!

There is no way of knowing what it will do. We bought ours about three years ago when it had a big dip, and it has pretty much gone up from there with a few occasional small dips. Maybe buy 50 shares at today's price, and hold out to see if it drops for the rest of the shares you need for OBC. We have been happy with our OBC we have received from it: over $1300.00

Cost averaging might be in order. We have owned CCL stock for over 9 years and 15 cruises! The stock holder credit has made this one of our better investments but I would be very hesitant to purchase just for this benefit.

my last buy was at 34 and that sure has been good to me with ship credits plus dividends plus price went to mid 50's before recent fall back..

i just bought some more today....

one nice thing about a company like CCL with billions of dollars worth of ships is that some kid in his basement with a computer can't create a "better software" and put CCL out of biz as so many other companies with little or no hard assets have learned...

i continue to be bullish on future CCL expansion into the asian markets of china, korea, japan, taiwan etc...lot of money there and asians are just beginning to discover the wonderful world of cruising.....i also think cuba could be a boom for CCL and other lines.

we shall see

below $44 today....good time to buy?

i think still some fallout over UK brexit deal and maybe go down a bit more...but sure seems to me that it may quickly rebound.

What say you?

IMO it is a good time to buy CCL. 3.2% dividend at today's closing price of $43.75. 11.3 forward PE (around 15 trailing PE). High for last 52 weeks is $12.00 higher. If you cruise at least once a year the stockholder credit combined with a decent dividend makes this into a nice deal, IMO.

Just buy 100 shares now and put it away - I never even look at mine. Just remember to get your shareholder credit and cash those dividend checks each quarter.

Over the next 12 months my 2 cruises will earn me a total of $350 in OBC plus $140 in dividends. The $490 is a nice return on my investment, plus no taxes on the OBC and minimal taxes on the dividend.

Funny you say that about the taxes. I could see the IRS considering it a taxable benefit. I wonder if they have ever looked at it. Lets keep it a secret.

That to me is the best reason to buy it, at least 100 shares, @ $250 per cruise, we have received lots of OBC owning it. Its dividend is at least above 3% again, 3.20%, ok but not great. Do know what you would have paid if you bought CCL in 1999? Around $50/share so it has not had great appreciation. Obviously there have been dips where you would have done better.

I purchased my stock several years ago when it was around $32. The dividend was $1.00 then, so a bit over 3%. Stock is higher now, but so is the dividend, so back to over 3%.

Whether now is a good time to buy is up to each person. I'd hate to say yes and the stock to drop tomorrow, and I'd hate to say no and for it to rise. As others have reported for themselves, it's been a good stock for me. We have enjoyed the OBC on several cruises and look forward to when we retire and can take a lot more cruises starting next year than the one or two a year we have taken in recent years.

anytime is a good time to buy the stock. I bought mine at $48 about 8 years ago and have gotten more than that in OBCs as well as dividends. We take 2 -3 cruises ayear and almost all are 2 weeks or longer. It has been down into the low 20s and up into mid 50s.

It is a personal choice. We bought ours when it was high about 9 years ago. It took a big dive during the recession but has been up even higher than our purchase price. All in all, it's been a good deal for us. We've gotten dividends (not huge) but the Shipboard Credits have been a wonderful perk ... including the dividends and obc's we are ahead. We are happy campers - or should I say happy cruisers.

Can someone please tell me which cruise lines are included in the CCL stable for the OBC . Also, what is the rate ofOBC by cabin type....I assume you get more for a suite than an inside. I know I can look it up, but think an answer here would help a lot of us who have thought about it, but never really understood what you get. Thx.

I have owned CCL for many years and have re-invested dividends. I am a pleased shareholder.

I attended one Annual Meeting at Coral Gables and, even as a small shareholder, I was greeted and treated with courtesy and friendliness by a couple of the members of the Board of Directors and the CEO.

CCL is an excellent Company in my opinion.

You may have noticed that the stock price is not very dynamic. It does move but only between the $30-$50 price range. It is not, nor will it ever be the next Microsoft. It's price is vulnerable to the oil markets because of the amount of fuel purchased. The dividends and On Board Credits make for a nice return on investment. 3% in the US, beats the 0-1% available elsewhere.

I agree with you and DaveOKC. I purchased around 47.00 about 9 years ago. Reinvest all dividends and sailed 15 times to date with HAL and have 4 cruises booked. I've been fortunate to cruise and get the OBC. Without the OBC it's not as attractive of an investment compared to some others. Averaged 1.87% on dividend returns.

That is exactly why I bought 100 shares of CCL stock several years ago. The dividends are reinvested automatically. When I purchased the stock was at $22 per share. My investment has more than doubled and I have obtained shipboard credit in various amounts for 15 or more cruises. I could not be more pleased with CCL stock. When the stock was over $50 per share my broker advised selling but I told him I will never sell this stock.;)

Quote "anyone cruising on a reduced-rate or complimentary basis are excluded from this offer".

I usually buy from DirectBuy Travel or Costco Travle, and it always shows a reduced rate from retail. So just wondering what rate would qualify? In talking with other cruisers, it always seems everyone booked at some level of reduced rate from rack rate.

Your bookings with Direct Buy Costgo, Sams etc. are not considered reduced rates..

Reduced Rates are Travel Agents, Airline Employees, Cruise Line Employees, perhaps some Hotel employees who take reduced rates on a cruise..Perhaps some even get a complimentary cruise or a large discount on many cruise lines such as tour Conductors of large groups..

Hi d,

If your plan is to buy and hold, $44 is a good price at which to buy some, with the expectation that it might drop a few dollars - or not.

It's been as high as $54 this year.

I think that all of the cruise line stocks are artificially depressed because of the recent unhappy news. I've bought some of each of the big guys.

... IMO the OBC is a discount (and thus not a taxable event) comparable to a "40% Off Sale" at Macy's or a "Buy One, Get One Free" offer at Payless Shoes ... not offering tax advice, just stating my opinion ...

The Other Company (RCL) is an even better buy right now. Its seems to appreciated way more than CCL over the years. Don't really know why.

We own (at least) 10 shares of both, while we mostly a HAL cruiser, the wife occasionally goes on some girl cruises with lines under that company.

You would need at least 100 of CCL to utilize the shareholder benefit on every cruise. You can use it on any of their lines.

14 day cruise - $250. It adds up if you cruise a few times a year like we do.
