BarbinMich Posted June 30, 2017 #1001 Share Posted June 30, 2017 I can't imagine why passengers would want to wear a card on a lanyard around their neck either but there are many who do on all cruise lines. I would think that those who participate in that function would welcome the medallion. They wouldn't even have to remove it for it to work. FWIW, some of us ladies don't always have pockets in which to place a cruise card, hence the need to "wear" our cruise card on a lanyard. Nor do we want to carry a purse while on board. XBGuy Posted June 30, 2017 #1004 Share Posted June 30, 2017 FWIW, some of us ladies don't always have pockets in which to place a cruise card, hence the need to "wear" our cruise card on a lanyard. Nor do we want to carry a purse while on board. Mrs. XBGuy is one of those who does not seem to have pockets and, often, does not want to carry a purse. Fortunately, her husband is a dude and always has available pocket space for her stuff. I can see that lanyards are very convenient for many people. When IDs became required in order to get on an airplane, I noticed that many travelers started wearing lanyards that held their drivers license. Not a bad idea. I went to Amazon and searched for ID Holder. An array of products popped up. Why couldn't something like this be used to insert a medallion? https://www.amazon.com/Wisdompro-2-Sided-Vertical-Polyester-Detachable/dp/B015PAYR1C/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1498844312&sr=8-8&keywords=Id+holder The way I see it, the medallion would not have to be punched. They may welcome the medallion as well. It would be nice if the medallion would track my steps and heart rate then I wouldn't have to wear my Fitbit. Evangaline Posted June 30, 2017 #1006 Share Posted June 30, 2017 I don't understand the issue. If one happily puts a cruise card in their pocket or purse, why not simply do the same with the medallion? There is no requirement that one wear it, regardless of any allergy. The photo I saw had this silly looking bracelet which looked too bulky to put in your pocket, but maybe there are other choices. I will say, though, that I am not paying for something to replace the bracelet. In the wonderful world of cruise upcharges, just on principle, I definitely draw the line before paying for accessories so I can use my sea pass. The Princess webpages for ***** show various ways to carry it. I won't purchase anything to display it but some will prefer that option. The photo in this webpage shows the *****'s relatively small size next to an iPhone & could easily fit in pockets. http://www.princess.com/ships-and-experience/ocean-medallion-class/ocean-faq/

From what I am understanding, you only get the medallion. The chains and bracelets must have to be purchased. It's possible that before they mail them out there may be a way to order the accessories so they ship with the medallion. What I find so ironic is the fact that they stopped mailing out luggage tags and boarding passes. Mailing medallions seems to be a step backwards. May as well send luggage tags too. eatdrinkfly Posted June 30, 2017 #1009 Share Posted June 30, 2017 (edited) the medallion is tiny. definitely easier to carry than a cruise card. it's also metal, so you can use a magnet and make it into a pin if you're the type that likes to flash your status colours. this is sitting in the palm of my hand. not intrusive at all to me. eatdrinkfly Posted June 30, 2017 #1011 Share Posted June 30, 2017 I'm not sure that using a magnet would be advisable around something that electronic in nature. Tom apparently it's not an issue with this technology. the rep for Princess was the one that suggested it as a pin using a magnet. if you google RFID technology being disrupted by magnets, it appears to not be possible to disrupt the signal with a run of the mill household magnet. It is not the RFID technology I would worry about. The Medallion has some reference number that has been loaded into what ever kind of memory it has. It is this reference number that is transmitted by the RFID technology. Toi me the question is would a magnet destroy the reference number? Pierlesscruisers Posted July 1, 2017 #1021 Share Posted July 1, 2017 Also remember the ads suggest that to order anything you have to use the Medallion with a Smartphone. I don't remember seeing anything about a smartphone being required. That doesn't make sense to me since not everyone uses a smartphone and many who do don't carry it around with them on a ship. Would Princess limit their customers to only those who have and carry a smartphone? Doesn't seem logical to me. Guess we'll see come November! I guess that's why they still provide the card. Although you can still technically use it to open your door or to make purchases like you would with the card. You just can't use the functions that require a phone. With all of this technology you would think that they would install a proper charging station in the rooms so passengers wouldn't need to bring power strips or outlet adaptors to keep their devices charged.
