What a story this is - mom of a 6 ft. tall 15 years old "boy" was okay with her son drinking onboard NCL at a bar but called security/police after seeing her son coming out a public bathroom with 23 years old Canadian mom of 3 - lots of explaining for everyone.

Here's the news link - it raised all sorts of questions for debate, as in ... what're each of them thinking, and, under the watchful eyes of NCL.

One question - who was "buying" or charging the alcohol for the 15 years old who appeared to be 18, troublesome :mad: Plenty of fingers pointing for who's at fault.

I did not see anything in that story that said the teen was drinking.

The boy's mother belongs in jail as well.

for what?

Not following her teenage son to the bathroom?

Exactly!

Not only did the OP make up the idea that he was drinking, but she also made up the idea that mom was okay with him drinking. Neither of those things is mentioned or even alluded to in the story. Now people are replying as if those are true.

WOW

The only way a 15 year old boy was drinking on the ship would be if he mother was giving him drinks. NCL policy only allows 18-21 to have beer or wine with parental permission. Would be surprised if an NCL bar tender would have served him direct without seeing his room card which would show he was a minor.

If his mom was in the bar with him while this 23 year old woman was chatting it up and dancing with her 15 year old son why was she not concerned at that point?

Something sounds a little fishy to me, think I see a future lawsuit being filed by the boys mom.

Here's what I found with a simple Google Search...

Auclair said several questions remain unanswered, including how a teenager found himself in an area of the ship normally reserved for adults and was allegedly drinking.

To even hint that a teen drinking alcohol is in the same universe of criminal activity as sexual assault is the dumbest thing I have ever read on these boards and that is saying something. Even if the child's mom, and yes he is a child, was holding him down and giving him beer funnels, that would in NO WAY mean that she shouldn't be outraged enough to call the police if she suspects he was sexually assaulted. In other words, him drinking changes nothing. Good grief.

No one knows all the details so judging the mom without more facts is ridiculous, but I understand that generally doesn't matter for busy bodies.

So he looked 18, said he was 18, was in the casino, where passengers need to be 18. I don't think that woman should be in jail, shame on the mom. Blane your son!

Would you be saying that if it was a 15 year old girl who looked 18 and the adult was a 23 year old man? Blame your daughter?

Note that this quote is made by the defendant's mother who was not even on the ship.

i am assuming we have all been on NCL or any other cruise and everyone understands that in a situation like Osheehans even though it is a "bar" it is also joined by bowling and darts and pool table etc. and as long as the 15 year old is not actually sitting at the actual "bar" he can be at any area or any other table, just because the report says he was "at the bar" it is very misleading and in no way means he was sitting there having drinks.

So the mom of the girl said something. Did the police say it? Did NCL say it? Did the kid admit it? Or is it just the mom of the girl that is in jail saying something that the "press" (and I use that lightly in this case) has quoted?

I don't know about Bahamian law but in the US, his lying about his age is irrelevant.

If a 15 year-old girl had sex in a bathroom with a 23 year-old man, I wonder how many people would change their opinion on the subject. My opinion wouldn't change.

My opinion wouldn't change even if a 23 year-old male had 3 kids like the woman in this story. I'm sure that people feel a certain way because the 23 year-old woman has 3 kids back home but would people feel the same about a male with 3 kids back home?

Digging further into this - CTV Montreal reporting on this - the 23 years old mom-of-3 "told her mother she met a man in a bar while the ship was docked in Great Stirrup Cay ... Shortly after meeting, the pair had sex in the bathroom of the bar."

http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/quebec-woman-accused-of-sexually-assaulting-minor-jailed-in-bahamas-1.3249475

So, this happened off what ship they're on, on NCL's private island - GSC.

Last few times at GSC, I don't recall seeing Bahamas police being there patrolling so ... ship security was notified and then, complaint filed ... at some point, she was placed under arrest, handcuffed and escorted off (looking at those photos).

Many unanswered questions - so, perhaps, the 15 years old was not drinking alcohol at the bar, rather he was served plain water or lemonade but just hanging out & dancing with an older woman, having a fun time - however, both articles seemed to suggest/strongly hint at otherwise.

Stories just don't add up - and, if this was the Sky on a short cruise, the ship's next port of call after GSC would've been Miami. Let the debate continue ...

Yes, I would, and I have 14 and 15 year old daughters. If one of them somehow managed to be in a bar, lied about her age, and had sex with a 23 year man, I would not press charges. I think this scenario probably comes up often (I know I had fake ID back in the day). I also have 14 and 18 year old sons, so I can see things from the perspective of a mom of boys and girls (also have a 20 year old daughter).

The mom knew her son didn't belong in the casino, and his being there gave the impression that he was 18+.

It says the ship was docked, it does not say they were off the ship.

GSC is in Bahamas and falls under that jurisdiction as would the ship when docked/ anchored there.

What the next port is, is not relevant.

The comments about this story are all over the place and based on assumptions. The article says they danced all night. He was 15. I have seen COUNTLESS threads from parents asking the question about the alcohol waivers when cruising. How come no one ever flames those parents for allowing their children to drink on a cruise.

The mother has a right to be angry. But far worse has happened on a cruise line and no one got arrested. I have seen tall guys at 15 but don't recall every seeing a 6'1" 15 year old. You are still growing at 15. This "kid" is probably going to be 6'5" and play for the Lakers.

Extremely poor judgment of ALL involved. No parental supervision. Using a bathroom for sexual encounters. And possibly allowing a minor to drink and be in the casino. But at 6'1" with a "beard" he did not seem out of place.

My 2 nephews were both over 6' at 15. The are now 21 and 17 and are 6'3" and 6'5" respectively.
