Aaah you mean a bumbag!

if you are sailing on Princess you are sailing on a British ship, so leave fannys alone unless you want trouble.

Princess are American and always have been. They used to be owned by P&O (British), but they were both taken over by Carnival back in the 90's early 2000's, can remember exact date. A lot of Brits sail on Princess because of that, and a lot of the senior staff will be British also.

In ref. to the above said 'word' in the UK, it relates to a ladies private parts.:o:o

Perhaps you might like to take a peek at the ships' registry - and the flag flying on each ship.

Just in case you don't already know Princess ships are British registered in Bermuda, a British Crown Colony, and fly the Red Duster, the flag of the British Merchant Marine.

The parent company of both P and O and Princess is of course Carnival Corporation/PLC which is quoted on both the NY and London stock exchanges.

Guess you are mostly right, so far I have only seen them sail under the Union Jack or Bermudan flag? Do they have any American ships?

No they don't. Before that they flew under the Bahamas flag, which of course is also not American.

I believe the only sea going US flagged cruise ship is owned by NCL and is named Pride of America, she sails around Hawaii currently.

Still an American company, the reason they're registered in Bermuda is for tax and employment issues. If they were registered in the USA they'd have to employ US staff and give them all the rights they're entitled to under US law. Celebrity ships are registered in Malta, it doesn't make them Maltese.

We will have to agree to differ on that as their ships cannot under any circumstances be registered in US as they were not built there of mostly US components, not only employment and tax law, and the parent company is quite clearly both British and American.

To introduce some clouding of the issues by mentioning Celebrity which is owned by Royal Caribbean is a red herring because they may well be registered in Malta but the parent company is not Maltese. Royal Caribbean is in fact a Liberian company.

Don't worry about it too much. We Yanks are almost always happy to help y'all out with your English.

In the UK it's 'happy to help YOU out with your English' 😉😉😉😀😀😀

BTW the plural of y'all is all y'all.

And your point is what?

Just because things we don't like are being forced on us then its OK for more things we don't like to be forced on us?

I really don't care about this tagging on Princess because I WILL disable it using a protective device when I don't need to use it as I currently use a cruisecard on board to open a door or come on board.

There was probably a reaction from passengers to cards to unlock cabin doors when they changed from metal keys, those doorlocks we now have log every entry and whose card was used to make it. They can be interrogated and the information easily extracted and printed out. I have seen it done only 2 months ago when a Princess employee, not our steward, came into our room while my g/f was sleeping alone, and had to be tracked down. It didn't take long for them to find out who he was.

Yikes! That's scary. How stupid is the employee to not know they will find out.

I get what you are seeing. Take DisneyWorld. I'll first state, I've never used the wrist band. Supposedly you get a wrist band to wear that gets your fast pass and monitors your patterns. So if you always go into the same restaurant and order ice tea when you check in they have ice tea on the table. Frankly, that pisses me off. I don't appreciate a machine telling me what I want to drink and when.

My son is studying this technology to get a degree. From a business point I see the multiple helpful information. Say more people showed up at the submarine ride then expected you can divert cast members to that location. Then you can study the patterns. I don't like it. I don't find it nice that they know where I am and what I'm doing the entire time I'm there. But, it is what it is. We can't change it and obviously this is the way the world is going. Like Griller I would prefer not to have it. I don't wear wristbands for a reason. Putting a car in my pocket is a good way to get it lost. Will I do it? Sure because that is the only choice I get.

For example the following about the Majestic Princess:

There’s also a Bellagio-style fountain that displays stunning water and light shows.

A new over-the-ocean glass floor walkway extends 28 feet beyond the ship’s edge to give you straight-down views from 12 stories above the ocean.

Just curious. Would you know the extent of the cantilevered Seawalk on the Royal/Regal?

The info is on the Princess site.

Unparalleled Views of the Sea

A dramatic over-the-ocean glass walkway, the SeaWalk® is the first of its kind at sea. At 60 feet long, cantilevered 128 feet above the waves and extending 28 feet beyond the edge of the ship, it affords thrilling vistas of the ever-changing seascape. Just as the Captain can look through glass panels in the floor of the bridge, passengers can now share in that breathtaking experience. Across the ship, the SeaView Bar goes one step further with a glass paneled floor and drinks prepared during exciting shows with flair.

I wonder how the slot machines in the casino will be affected?

Indeed this thought had crossed my mind, it may well adversely affect those of us who use them in a certain way for a certain purpose. Ah well it had to end one day.

I cruise for creme brûlée, lobster and warm chocolate melting cake!

They haven't said publicly yet that I have seen, but it must be in the roll out plan somewhere. Maybe they would modify the slots to use the medallion as the account connection. They might also go to a separate "players club" card like land based casinos. The OP said they spoke to a casino employee yet no mention there of slot machine modifications.

We will just have to wait to find out about the slot question. The first cruise with the Medallion technology won't be until November 13. The first cruise is actually only 1 day and the second cruise will be 4 days. After that they go into 7 and 14 day itineraries. I'm sure there will be a lot of info - complaints and praise alike - posted here following that first cruise and the ones immediately following.

So there is no difference. Thanks.

First cruise is two days (only goes to Princess Cays).

Yes, second cruise is four days (only goes to Grand Turk).

One more question to be answered in the future: At most ports, you cannot return and get into the terminal area without showing a current cruise card. I am sure that showing a Medallion which has neither a picture or a date on it will be acceptable to the port security personnel.

I understand a condition of embarkation is the presentation of a Government-issued photo ID-DL, Proof-Of-Age Card (I can't drive and don't yet have a passport so I used this) or Passport. I'm sure Princess would be well aware of the various Port security requirements, and have allowed for this.

Princess' online photos show passenger name and sailing date on the medallion, around the outer bezel.

Even today's cruise cards do not have a photo so no difference there. I suppose that's why Princess says you must bring a government issued photo id with you. Yes, I've noticed most port security personnel are fine with just the cruise card.

The CES video also shows people simply walking on to the ship. Right now, they use a barcode reader to check you in. In the future, a near field reader can do the same thing without you even stopping. Just walk past the reader and it records your entry onto the ship, or departure off of it. As long as you still get your photo taken at embarkation, the photo would pop up on a security screen as soon as the near field reader records your presence, and a security official will check your photo against your current appearance, same as they do now. Just think of the system as being the exact same as a barcode reader with the same functionality. Only, instead of the security officer fiddling with your card to get the reader's laser to align just right, the "barcode" gets read from the medallion electronically.
