Taking wine & food back to stateroom

I always take food and snacks back to the cabin for late night snacks on the balcony. And I always put the dishes in the Hallway. So there.

I'm sure the people who have mobility issues going down those narrow hallways appreciate that.

On my last cruise, before they restricted bringing liquids on board, I brought a case of Canadian Coke on board. I would go to the bar and ask for two malibu's and 1) the bartenders never asked me for my husband's key card, and 2) when they sussed out why I was asking, they gave me doubles in tall glasses, so I could mixed them in my room.

I'd make a terrible room steward. I'd be sorely tempted to toss all those random dishes and utensils in the trash since there's no paper trail tying them to my station. I know that's bad, but what a pain trying to get everything back to the right place again.

Ps. I'm not sure how ones obtains a tray from McDonald's? Sticky fingers?

What if the Big Mac meets the real Mac the 18 wheeler type - I managed to salvage the usable portion

of the tray and with MacGyver modification brought it back to life enough for my purposes - flat and packs

nicely in the bottom of my luggage with minimal weight - think back 50 years to a TV tray for cruisers !

Sticky fingers maybe someone had pancakes and Mc Sausage with syrup ?! Want fries with that ? LOL !

The thrift shop types maybe a bit of an overkill with all them chrome features suitable for a tea party.

NCL did away with food trays quite awhile ago. But if you manage to find one at a thrift store clean it up a bit

and slip it into your luggage and take it with you to use.

Great for loading up more than one plate of serving to take easily back to your cabin with drinks to boot.

Don't leave it out in passage way the cabin attendants will take it away. Clean it up a bit and reuse.

I got a McDonalds tray and it's size is perfect for buffet dinner; salad appetizers and desert with drinks for 2 !

Only obstacle is opening the cabin door doing a balancing act which I have yet to master with aplomb ! LOL !

Funny story about that. Some of our family had cut a couple of pieces of cake from our wedding cake on the night of our wedding for us to enjoy back in the hotel room later that night. We lugged those pieces of cake around all evening everywhere we went. Once the events were over we walk up to our hotel room door and try to open it and my wife drops the pieces of cake right on the ground. We still laugh about that to this day. It is funny the memories that stick with you.

That is funny(not).

The cabin next to us placed garbage plates of eggshells and banana skins in the passage way, outside their door.

Later, someone passing by must have stepped on the edge of the plates and flipped them over... egg shells and banana skins now spilled on the passageway floor.

As someone else sadly said, "It's not our problem; a Cabin Steward will clean it up.":)

Anybody else have no idea what this all means ?

No. O'sheehans does not allow you to take out food.

Is this a newer policy with O'Sheehans? I sailed the Jewel a year ago and had a number of menu items packed to go and took them up to Spinnker Lounge to watch a football game. Also had menu items packed to go to take back to my cabin. Policies change so quickly on NCL...

I agree with Ship$Shape, if you are going to eat in your cabin, leave the dirty plates and glass inside.

That being said, we always bring glasses of wine back to our cabin or bring the bottles we get as latitude members back and have a night cap. We eat enough food without eating in our cabin. ;p

I agree, we got wings from O'Sheehan's to take back to room. Told them we were taking them "to go" & they put plastic wrap over them. There was also a line of people waiting for food to go so it seemed to be the norm. This was on the Breakaway over a year ago, but as you said, policies change so not sure now.

I'm not sure when the policy started but I know that it has been in force.

"Line of people ..." might be why they no longer will allow food to be taken out.

I've seen reports of it and in December on Gem takeout from O'Sheehans was a no-go.

So if you are eating there and do not finish your meal...they won't give you a take out box so you can take the rest back to your room? If so, what a waste of food.

Take-Out is not the same thing as "Doggie Bagging It" leftovers !

As for O'Sheehans would you be doing the same thing if you dined at Le Bistro or Cagney's or

any other (specialty) venue ? I think NOT !

The Buffet however is set up for self served food service and where you dine is pretty much where

your FreeStyle permits - in the Buffet - in a lounge chair on deck - in your cabin - CERTAINLY NOT

in the library or stairwell/elevator - public passage way !

Hmm....why would you even think someone wanted to eat food in a the library, stairwell or elevator-public passageway? I didn't see anyone mention where they planned on eating their food other than their cabin and one fella wanted to take it to watch the football game...and I see nothing wrong with that. That said, I've gotten doggy bags at most of the restaurants but I've never gotten "take out" at any of them. If they offer it I see no reason not to do it. But as we can see it is now not being offered..............so the buffet is it! And that's fine with me. All that being said, some people may not feel up to it and want to have a quiet dinner in their cabin....so their only option in that case is the buffet.

Some people take words (not food) out of my mouth and self-digest them in different ways

ah er expanding and inserting implied ad-lib statements etc.

Yes true I have not seen food stuffs in the library but I have seen beverage items !

I have seen discarded food and service items in the stairways elevators and as commented here stuff placed outside one's cabin door.

While not the food; beverage service items police but these are the things that I have observed

that make a classy cruise voyage a memorable trip and then one not so.

NCL is doing a great job at cleaning up public places of discarded items ! Thank You NCL !

Getting back on thread/track -

No you may not take food TO-GO out of O'Sheehan's or any other specialty restaurant.

You may check with your waiter about bagging up a "Doggie Bag" of left-overs for later

consumption perhaps in your cabin or adding items from the buffet.

Hmmm....and yes, I know that! Stated that I knew that in my post.

I was on the Breakaway last May and I did see people "take out" from O'sheehans. Not the specialty dinners like the prime rib but more of the burgers, wings, appetizers....some would get plates and go to the chairs looking down over atrium...some would not. I didn't see any staff or customers "arguing" over what was acceptable.....and i spent more time in that area of ship because of casino.

Please don't leave anything/obstacles in the passage way.

If you must eat in your cabin, leave your garbage plates inside your cabin.

The cabin attendant will take it away.

Funny the room service attendant and Steward both asked me to leave it outside my cabin, so guess what I did?

This maybe a case where there is an assigned attendant that picks up all these items on a routine basis.

Maybe roving with a cart up and down the passage ways and other public areas looking for these items.

One attendant could easily handle a mid-size ship both port and starboard. While an AWAY Class ship

may require two.

When you CS attendant says for you to do it - fine - probably makes it easier to service your cabin faster

without having to share cleaning gear around on the same cart with dirty dishes and glasses.
