MelissaMcC Posted March 9, 2017 #401 Share Posted March 9, 2017 I'm sure it's been thought about and discussed and ultimately decided against. I can't imagine they have never thought of it. And No, I wouldn't want/need a non smoking ship. It's already a pretty small area where smoking is allowed and easy to avoid. Casino Comp Chick Posted March 9, 2017 #402 Share Posted March 9, 2017 Way to go...great idea....of course it works both ways and since there are more non smokers than smokers you want us to give our opinions about smoking too of course don't you? detroitlions Posted March 10, 2017 #407 Share Posted March 10, 2017 I hear this thread caught the ear of NCL brass and they are going to turn the newly built ships to no smoking. The main reason is they want to appease the 50 or so folks on here who want the ships to be smoke free. Is that great news or what!!! They also called carnival and asked them what mistakes to avoid since Carnival tried a non smoking ship and it bombed they were the lowest $$$ maker on the line. I also heard one of the ships will be kid free there bringing back lobster and getting rid of the bidding system for that ship all cabins will be haven cabins so everyone feels special. There bringing back fireworks and the welcome aboard drink. Plus there will be two huge pools on the ship. And no one has to pay for or book the shows. Man I wish this thread would die this is the worst part of CC divide and conquer smokers vs non smokers, drinkers vs non drinkers , familys vs old people who hate kids...... All this stuff should go away it does no good and it is not a learning experience it is screaming your argument on a soap box.
srlafleur Posted March 10, 2017 #408 Share Posted March 10, 2017 Yes, I would, since it wouldn't impact me in the least. No, I wouldn't pay a premium, because people smoking in dedicated areas doesn't impact me, either.
ckelly14 Posted March 10, 2017 #409 Share Posted March 10, 2017 There is no question that the (rumored) smell of smoke in and around the casino on the Epic and Breakaway have kept me away from booking a Europe cruise on Norwegian. Your attempt at humor actually proves what is happening. Smoking has and will continue to get more and more restrictive. The cutbacks will continue. These trends will not just disappear. All the cruise lines continue to do these things. A cruise line will take away a mint to save a penny. Don't you think they have seen how much they save by making the smoking policy more restrictive ? Are there more cabins sailing at a higher capacity now than when you could smoke in the restaurants, cabins and on the balconies or less ? All these same arguments come up whenever a cruise line takes away another place people can smoke but all the cruise lines continue to proceed in that direction. Yes there will be smoke free casinos and it will not be that long from now.

Beyond the health benefits for passengers, more restrictive smoking policies do save a cruise line money: less cleaning and wear, greater safety (potential fire), more attractive to the growing non-smoker demographic, etc. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

The main reason is they want to appease the 50 or so folks on here who want the ships to be smoke free. Is that great news or what!! . I think you are actually in the minority here. I believe there are way more non-smokers now then there are smokers (at least in the US). Countless threads on CC have smoke related complaints, so it's not just a few people. Many of the complaints even come from former smokers. I don't think smokers realize the impact they have on others, such as how bad the smoke smells, how long it lingers or how it leaves behind an ashy footprint. Are there any reformed smoker who could shed light on what they have learned? Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Are there any reformed smoker who could shed light on what they have learned? Sent from my iPhone using Forums I was a very, very heavy smoker and after I quit I realized how much my house, car and clothes smelled when I smoked. I remember one time after I had quit for many years, going up to a meeting in Wisconsin and I rented the car. One of the Sales Reps who rode from the hotel to the airport took a quick smoke break before we left and I had to ask her to sit in the backseat, because the smell was actually making me sick. When I got home, I called some of my friends from my smoking days and apologized to them, because I just didn't realize, when I smoked, how bad it smelled. CruisingRavyn Posted March 10, 2017 #419 Share Posted March 10, 2017 What amazes me is the fact that everyone seems to think this is an all or nothing situation. The OP says "if they offered non-smoking cruise" does not mean ALL NCL cruises will suddenly be non smoking. It also does not mean that a smoker will be forced to take a fully non smoking cruise. It's just a post to get opinions to see if it's something with enough interest to try. Believe it or not the cruise lines monitor and use CC frequently. Is a simple question geared to simply determine interest really worth everyone's anger and snide remarks? We get it. Everyone is either for or against smoking and no matter what is said here, that opinion will not change. Let it go folks. Should I post a video of my 3 year old singing the song? The point was the folks on CC not general public. And I was making fun of everyone getting all worked up. Some times I think no one on here goes on a cruise for fun anymore they go and nit pik and complain about very little to small things and make a huge deal out of it. The growing non-smoker demographic While a ship doesn't need to be totally non smoking I believe the casino needs to be non smoking And because the crew seems to smoke and their cultural demographic does not seem to be cutting back on smoking.....the simple solution is..... Bring more ships to the Asian market....which ncl is doing Put smoking crew on those ships Going forward....and this will take time....as crew rotate out of other ships...just replace them with non smoking crew.... This will more than likely require ncl to tap other geographic markets to hire their crew...but there will always be non smokers in the world looking to work on a ship... You will just see less Asian crew and more crew from other areas Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Everyone is either for or against smoking and no matter what is said here, that opinion will not change. Let it go folks. Should I post a video of my 3 year old singing the song? Well, there's a reason not to let it go! If cruise lines do monitor CC, they must be getting the feedback that there are considerably more arguments and support for further reduction in smoking areas on cruise ships than for maintaining the status quo. The reports of the smoke drifting from the open casino on the larger NCL ships has certainly put me off ever booking a cruise on one of them, and I suspect I am not alone. Other cruise lines such as Celebrity and P and O manage to have smoke free interior areas of their ships, no sign of them going out of business. So any CC members who would like to enjoy, at minimum, a smoke free casino, and maybe even a smoke free cruise - what a heavenly idea!- please keep posting your comments. NCL, are you listening?
