If NCL offered completely non-smoking cruises, would you book?

Is the casino on Oceania non-smoking?

Good Question! I don't recall. What I do recall was that their slots and table limits were SO high that we couldn't afford to gamble!

We did get cocktails from the bar right next to the casino often though (this was on the Riviera)- I'm sensitive to smoke, and didn't notice if there was any coming from the casino.

Can't believe people still try to use that ridiculous argument

Your to funny. Your reply just shows lack of social development. I don't smoke and I don't care about smoking. I do eat healthy so oh well. What I don't do is come onboard a ship which is a community at sea and insist everyone conform to my idea of right or wrong, healthy or not healthy. I realize that freedom provides choices. If you can't handle that someone smokes etc. stay home or don't cruise. It's that simple.

I choose not to smoke or eat sugary food, foods or desserts or meat. However, if we are both onboard I won't be complaining about you eating meat, desserts that clog arteries etc. or someone that smokes. I leave that at the gangway and accept everyone onboard and their habits. If I couldn't handle it I wouldn't cruise. So fix yourself to perfection before you force your opinions on others. So tired of it

I see your point and I agree with you. I hate it when people throw sugar at me, rub

desserts into my hair and shove meat into my mouth.

Absolutely!! We just got off the Freedom of the Seas and even walking on Deck 5, as you walked past the stairs going to the casino, you could smell the smoke. Not to mention if you try to walk to the Windjammer outside it was solid smoke. If we ever cruise again, that will be hi on my priority list.

Well as someone said , " If I couldn't handle it I wouldn't cruise. "

Therefore, wear a raincoat with a hood and a surgical mask and then you could handle it .

BTW anyone else suspect that these "No I'm not a smoker" aren't ?

I cruise with a vegan niece.

What someone eats is so very different then if someone smokes. Or not. Smoking is different. It affects more than the smoker.

Actually, it is social development that has evolved with smoking over the years. Factors include health and the sheer numbers. Smokers are a minority.

I concur with your statements. I would agree with your niece 100 percent and obviously like no smoking. However I have these same food debates with family telling them how vegan lifestyle is better. And of course they can give me studies that say meat is just as good or high protein or Atkins like diets. What is the truth? Hmm. Maybe it's whoever is still left standing Don't know but I do know I can get along with people of opposing beliefs, lifestyles etc. and have a great time cruising. Happy cruising to you.

I dont really need a non smoking cruise/ship. I just need a non smoking cruise ship casino!, or at least an evenly and well divided one. I can normally avoid the smoking areas on a ship, but I find casinos on ships have become unbearable. I have not been on a norwegian ship recently though, so not sure if things have improved with them in that regard. Still, I dont need a totally non smoking ship, just a non smoking ship casino. If they did not change the smoking rule in casinos though, and did offer a non smoking ship, I might book it just to get a non smoking ship casino.

I seriously doubt you're a non smoker.... a non smoker sees the very clear difference between someone sitting at their table eating fatty and sugary foods; just generally minding their own business and in no way affecting me... as opposed to someone sitting at a slot machine next to me, polluting the air I need to breathe.

I'm assuming anyone sitting with you arguing about your diet is someone you generally chose to be around? I've never run into a stranger approaching me debating Atkins, paleo, what not. Again, very different to a smoker, complete stranger, lighting up near me and the smoke being an issue...

It's not about differing beliefs. I don't have any issues with cruising around people who do smoke. I do have issues with people smoking around me (particularly in enclosed spaces) because it stinks, it makes the air and anything I'm eating or drinking taste bad, it makes me cough and is hard to breathe, and frankly it's at least a little toxic. You tell me how someone drinking an alcoholic drink or eating fatty food makes your food and drink taste bad, makes you cough or have trouble breathing, and is in anyway toxic to you.

Hmm. You are very wrong about me. That's what opinions and assumptions do. However I still like you. And if you knew,me I would be all about diet, nutrition and healthy lifestyles etc. I read on those topics approximately an hour a day. I don't read on smoking since I haven't ever tried to eat them. I am saying bad diet is just as bad as smoking for you. So for the people who eat bad, drink and smoke good luck and prayers for you. I will refrain from making poor judgements on you. I do wish we didn't have smoking. Difference is I can handle it maybe better or I don't live in the casino. Whatever I just don't see it changing. More and more people are smoking marijuana as a recreation drug in more states and police don't do anything anymore so how are you going to get smoking to stop? Best choices will be your own choices and stay out of smoking areas on ships. I can go to ceasars Windsor anytime I want in a smoke free environment so why fret on vaca. I fully agree on no smoking and if you can stop smoking please stop marijuana too. I have had the displeasure of smelling that coming from people smoking it on balconies before. I hate that smell even more than smoking!! Having said that do you now think I smoke marijuana too??

Lol.

There are ships with non-smoking casinos that are also smoke free in most other public/private spots aboard.

All I can go off is what you post which compared people smoking cigarettes to people drinking and eating badly. Are all those things bad for your health, of course. Is you drinking and eating badly bad for me health? No; but you smoking is. Which is where the trouble lies...

I have to respectfully disagree with you. Smoking in public places is slowly being phased out in the US and I can only hope that trend comes to cruising. So far in places where majiuana is being legalized, I believe smoking it in public is still not permitted. I can only hope that with the public distaste for smoking in buildings continues to apply to marijuana as well. We visited Amsterdam recently and the marijuana smoke was overbearing.

I'm not much of a gambler (my gambling budget on vacation is about $20 for the week) so the smoking in the casinos isn't a big deal to me, except when the casino provides a central pass through for the ship; which seems to be the case on the newer ships. If they simply made the casinos non smoking I think most people would be satisfied... smokers could still go outside, non smokers can enjoy the casino, and non gamblers don't have to walk through the smokey casino.

Luckily, my next cruise is on celebrity which does have smoke free casinos.

On Norwegian? I really want to sail norwegian because of the freestyle thing, as well as studios for solos, but I know that Celebrity has non smoking casinos, but cannot afford a cruise on them solo, also know that MSC has non smoking casinos, but not sure how it will work out for me price wise as a solo with them, but am always checking it out. Still, I would love to sail on any of the ships Epic, or later with solo rooms/prices. If the casino is smoky, then I just will not play, but enjoy the cruise otherwise, which is probably a good idea too.

Don't know about NCL but the other cruise lines in their corporate "family" (I.e., oceania and regent) are about as restrictive as you'll find across the industry. On O ships, for instance, the only indoor smoking location is in a separate windowed room in one bar.

With FDR now heading up this three line consortium, maybe some of Oceania's practices will trickle down to NCL (perhaps starting with food quality since I've read that NCL may be increasing its food$/passenger).

Thank you Sanger. Enjoy that cruise on celebrity. I was at the space needle in Seattle just last year before boarding the Pearl for an Alaska cruise. Three adults with an infant smoking marijuana in broad daylight in front of the space needle and then later get in their car and drive away. Crazy. I do have to admit I don't know much about marijuana but I know it's stronger and worse.

I do so hope they ban smoking in more places but Better yet stop selling cigarettes period and save lives. Why don't we do that? Of course there will be some crazies until they ween off nicotine. Anyways safe travels and I do wish you the best!

With an infant is crazy indeed! Use of marijuana in Seattle may be legal but not in public.

A community at sea? In the UK, smoking is banned in all indoor public buildings, including hotels, pubs, restaurants etc, even bus shelters, as well as private vehicles containing children. I am surprised that any ship sailing from the UK would allow any less freedom to its passengers to enjoy a comfortable and safe cruise.

Smoke obviously doesn't bother you, and if you don't smoke, you can enjoy a smoke free casino, and have the added pleasure of walking round the promenade deck in comfort!

You say that you accept everyone on board and their habits, but then go on to exclude marijuana!

I don't want either, so in response to the OP again, yes I would book a non smoking cruise if offered, and having read some of the comments on this thread, I think I'd even consider paying extra for it!

I have COPD from smoking and quit 18 years ago. Still got it. So yeah I get your point. Smokers DO NOT make me sick though. It is their life they can do what they want with it. But I most DEFINITELY would cruise on a non smoking ship because I dont want them shortening my life in the process of shortening their own.

Got off the Breakaway on Sunday - first NCL cruise. In answer to original questions:

1. Yes

2. No

I accept that some people smoke but not at the expense of the health and comfort of my family. Have cruised Disney and Celebrity many times without it being an issue. However, it was definitely an issue with NCL. Had to avoid entire forward Waterfront starboard side. Couldn't use Maltings Bar as every time the door opened to Waterfront smoke drifted inside. The 'enclosed' area port side pool deck was a joke and another area to avoid. Worst part though was the casino which impacted large areas of decks 6,7,and 8 around the atrium. While I could accept avoiding a couple of small areas we will not sail NCL again in so long as they allow smoking in a casino that is so open to the rest of the ship.

The final nail in the coffin is that because there were so many kids on board the kids club in deck 12 could not accommodate everyone. Consequently, the 10-12 age group had most of their actives in the Bliss Lounge. Meaning all the kids had to walk through the smoked filled casino to get to and from the kids club!

The casino did always appear to be extremely busy with smokers so I get why NCL would want to keep it that way. However, they have lost me as a customer as a result. Shame as there are lots of great things about NCL especially the entertainment and overall value.
