Two M-Class Ships for Sale?

My DW and I have a cruise booked on Summit for August. Final payment is coming up and due to my class schedule, that will be finals week, unless I delay starting my term. Unexpected glitch in the plans.

We paid an incredible price for an S2 and to reschedule for next year would add $1200 to the fare. I hate to give this cruise up because of the price increase to rebook next year and, well, it's Bermuda.

I'm wondering if this might be our last chance to cruise out of Bayonne on Summit. Maybe we should JUST DO IT! swoosh. Take the cruise.

Or maybe cancel and wait to see what transpires - Edge class out of Bayonne :D, now that would be worth waiting for.

I can't say for Splendour but this is not true for Legend. We actually booked a cruise early last May (whilst onboard Ovation) which should have taken place next month on Legend. Within a few weeks of booking the cruise was showing sold out and after a number of emails and denials that the ship had been sold - and despite seeing an announcement in late May that it would be sold to Tui - we finally received a letter confirming the sale at the beginning of June. The ship was recently handed over to Tui, so that's less than a year from the sale announcement to the handover.

We were also booked on B2Bs on the Legend when it was sold. We are now booked on similar B2B cruises in October on the Constellation and will be mightily ticked off if they also don't go ahead, although at six months out we should be pretty right.

We're on Solstice right now, our first experience with an S class ship. It's pretty, and has some nice features, but there are just too many people on board to suit me. When all of the M class ships have gone, I think we will be done with Celebrity. We've been heading in that direction anyway, but that will seal the deal.

I am sorry to see two of the M class ships go. We love the older, smaller ships. The Century was smaller and even better.

Too bad that I don't have enough saved to come up with $400 million for a ship.

On a HAL cruise two or three years back, the captain was asked if the ship was for sale. His response was that any of their ships would be for sale at the RIGHT price.

So if someone comes along with a huge bucket of money they will surely take it.

Glad we booked air with SW...if we get cancelled and they do not have another ship for the Ca coastal itin, we will be able to cancel the air and bank a big credit for future use..Hotel is also able to be cancelled.

We have already gone through being dangled and stonewalled for an Infin cruise once before. We were able to re schedule and enjoyed our ABC Isand cruise on Inf in Oct. Ship is feeling old but the Ca Coastal is more about the itin ....

When looking at the Brochure, one ship is in Italy and one ship in the US. Both ships look like Celebrity ships though. Great pictures of the ship in the brochure. I haven't been on a Celebrity ship yet....trip coming up, but a seasoned Celebrity cruiser might be able to tell which ship by the posted pictures.

Was looking around and found what looks like two M-Class ships for sale. Not totally surprising with the new Edge class coming onboard soon. Or maybe Celebrity is just seeing if there is any interest?

I'm sure someone can figure out which ships they are.

One could compare amenities..not all M class have Q sine...and the dining room decor all has subtle differences..carpet, chairs, how many have goddess statue at stairway coming down..

Bet it wont take long to piece it together. If you search for " Celebrity...name of ship...pictures ", there are very helpful clues

It would be sad to see Infinity/Summit go!

Its to be expected with 4 Edge Class ships about to come on stream that the older M class ships will gradually be phased out

When the 5 S-class ships came on, Celebrity only got rid of the 2 pre-M-class ships, thus increasing their main fleet from 6 to 9. Why would we not expect the new E-class to again enlarge the overall fleet?

That's what I'm hoping. With bookings seemingly strong, maybe they'll keep the M-Class ships for several years yet. It allows some more unusual routes, as well as some "entry level" pricing compared to the Edge-class ships.

4 extra ships mean another 10,000 passengers a week they have to find in a market which many are saying with these huge super ships are reaching saturation.

Yes, and they've been reducing capacity in the Med recently due to, presumably, a downturn in demand. I would love to see more varied itineraries and more 14-17 nights (17 nights ex uk opens up the whole of the Med, 14 limits you to Western Med)

The reductions in the Med, I think, are due to the unrest in the Eastern Med, Israel, Egypt and Turkey to name a few.

In 2015 itineraries were changed only days before sailings and upset many passengers, even though Celebrity had their safety at heart.

They then took Equinox to home port in the Caribbean ( year round) So of course demand was down as there are less ships in Europe.

They may sell the 2 M class listed for sale and keep the others.. They are sized for the orig panama Canal..still a very popular itin...Wish they'd make one of them a true spa at sea..

Photo of ship # 1 has red chairs in MDR...Connie? Our fav of the M class

Descrip of ship # 2 says last refurb was 2015..anyone know refurb dates?

Hoping it is NOT the Infinity...we are booked for Oct 2017, just purchased air, booked pre-cruise hotel etc. If it's Infin we stand a chance of cancellation or worse yet being dangled along as they did with Infin the year they rented it out and wiped out a number of cruises including ours..

If anyone can firmly ID ships it would be helpful to those booking or planning to book those M class ships.

Thanks to O P for the heads up...

Infinity was updated in 2015 according to their website. The passenger count also doesn't match Infinity. I currently have a deposit on an April 2019 chartered on Infinity. I guess it could be sold from out from under us.

I definitely don't like the bigger ships. The largest I have been on is Independence of the Seas and I didn't like it. My favorites are Radiance class on down. The Navigator is one step down from Independence and I was unimpressed by the promenade. Well, except for the towel animal display in which a team member on a scavenger hunt stole...er re-appropriated...a Santa hat. Hey, we put it back. :D

Hi All. My wife and i went on the Millenium in the Far East last Sept/October and the ship was awful! The service was fine, but our cabin and public areas were worn as well as the gym and locker rooms. Way below Celebrity standards so it does not surprise me at all that these ships are up for sale. The renovations done to them were to the suites and restaurants and the Aqua Class Cabins (which we were) as well as the rest of the regular cabins and the interiors were barely touched. On the Millenium, I sent back pictures to my contact in Miami and after much complaining; they finally admitted that they knew of the problems onboard as many others also complained. I warn anybody not to go on the Millenium- it is an old lady that gets dusted daily but needs a complete facelift! And the Housekeeping Manager has very low standards!

We were recently on Infinity for ABC Island cruise...we enjoyed Tuscan and Q sine, even MDR once but did not enjoy BLU ( first time we did not )

Very inattentive and excruciatingly slow service...menus chosen not the top of BLU choices

Alot about the ship and cruise experience was "off". Hoping our Oct Ca Coastal on Inf is better..and ship not one being sold by then

After this cruise...no more M class for us. Will miss some features but ships are showing age.some areas dated and dark.. We are going back to Silhouette, Equinox and trying Edge..

Regarding the advertisement selling the 2 ships. Some of the pictures are very old and prior to them being "solsticized". And at least one picture is of a Solstice class ship balcony cabin.

I agree with the poster that said any ship is for sale at the right price. I'm sure Celebrity gets a lot of complaints especially at the condition of the M Class bathrooms. I have been on the Summit 8 times and although she is my favorite ship, she is starting to show her age. She needs more than a facelift. Her bathrooms need to be gutted and redone.

I remember daily stairway carpet replacement happening on that cruise. And it needed it very badly.

While I enjoyed the cruise, I didn't like the placement of Sky suites over the lifeboats. Considered the view a bit "obstructed" especially at night when the gantry light shined brightly into our eyes as we tried to enjoy some star gazing. I suppose if one could grab an S1 a bit aft on the bump like 6031 or 6032, that would be cool.

I really don't like the AQ cabin placements on deck 9 under the overhang for deck 10 (pool/buffet). How did that work out for you? Or the 1100's below the rooftop terrace and above the Oceanview bar. Although I've seen some awesome reviews of coveted 1140!!!

I prefer S class and we too are returning to Silly in 2018 and trying EDGE in 2019.

Wow to your comment about Blu. Shocking.

If Summit is sold, hoping for S or E class replacement out of Bayonne!!!! We've never had a bad experience on the Silhouette. Come home sweet Silly. :D
