Wow but not in a good way

Recommended Posts

Some of the "Loyals" would do themselves a major service trying a competitor line and see how hard they are working to win over converts with their perks and benefits; often at lower rates. I often blame those that won't try other lines for the constant chiseling of the Royal product; when Royal knows they can offer less they will do so.

We're looking at other lines. Like John&LaLa, we had a run on Carnival and Princess and came back to Royal. Royal hasn't disappointed us yet but we're getting the itch for something different.

I don't mind the concept of people paying more to get more perks, but Royal is not doing a great job with stratification. Other cruise lines have the ship within ship concept and keep high priced areas separate and distinct from "run of house" areas. With Royal, you don't really have that arrangement so they have gone more and more towards limiting access to what was commonly public areas for all to use.

As far as the sales pitches, I have usually managed to avoid them (don't use the spa services for instance) but they do irk me. Finding services and pricing is easy. If I want it, I will seek it out. I do not appreciate constantly being approached to spend more money. It erases the fantasy of being on a luxurious vacation and cheapens the experience for me, personally. I do not have a problem politely saying no, rather not be in that position to begin with.

Well said. Agree 100%.

Wow, I love that this post exists. I really enjoy sitting near these "reserved" sections before the start of shows to watch how out of shape people get when they absolutely HAVE to sit in that row and have arguments with the crew members that are holding the seats. Meanwhile, and regardless of what the original post does, or does not say, PLENTY of other very good seats all around the theater are available. It's like people need to find something to get angry about on vacation. I have actually seen people argue and then go in the aisle above the blocked row and then climb over the seats into the 'blocked' row and sit down. The poor crew member was so shaken up from the hard time the couple gave her in the aisle, she just let them sit down. I felt so bad for her. Personally, I would have gone and got a more senior crew member. Not a huge infraction, but you disobeyed a crew member - plain and simple.

And this is not a practice that is specific to cruise ships. I used to be an usher at a theatre. We held seats all the time and did not have this problem. I have noticed that people at sea are much more rude and entitled than they are on land. Not sure why that is.

Sorry but I disagree. You state they have upped their game when it comes to suites. On Oasis and Quantum class yes. On the rest of the fleet no. There is absolutely nothing that I get (other than being escorted on when in an RS) when I stay in a GS or higher on the rest of the fleet that I don't already get for being D+. Oh I forgot the free room service. Please explain to me how that is upping their game with suites and what other benefits I am getting.
You can disagree but your wrong, look at post # 162.

I have read that post and I think you are missing my point. Someone stated that RC have upped their game when it comes to suite perks. I said I agree that they have on Oasis and Quantum class ships but they are still falling way behind when it comes to the rest of the fleet.

The perks listed in 162 whilst they are perks to some does not mean they are valued as game changers by others. If you sail star class and sail in a RS on other ships of the fleet and think the perks are comparable then you are welcome to that opinion. My honest opinion is that the two do not even come close and that RC needs to up the perks on non Oasis / Quantum class ships. For what we look for in a cruise most of the points in 162 are not applicable or have little value to us. We don't use luggage valet as its not applicable to us. Barefoot beach is great if you are going on a ship that has that port, but is a mute point if you are not going there. In room dining, yes is nice but I can get that in a GS for a fraction of the cost.

I just feel that what you pay for an RS on the rest of the fleet deserves a lot more than it currently gets. The first time we sailed in an RS as D+ there was no wow factor or anything that stood out as being special.

You are welcome to your opinion, but I am also entitled to mine. I am not trying to argue with you, but the whole point is people can share their views and opinions and not every one has the same experience on every ship. My opinion based on my personal experience, is that sailing in a RS when you are Diamond or above on a non star class ship doesn't add much wow factor when it comes to perks.

If only Royal would roll out the Star/Sky/Sea class experience with comparable perks as offered on the Big ladies, all would be peachy.

The RS, OS and GS prices on the smaller vessels dependent on itinerary are still in some cases equivalent in cost to the Oasis & Quantum class.

From personal experience with RS, OS and GS on non star class ships, and likewise personal experience on the bigger ships staying in suites.

The gap is huge!

Even if on non Oasis/Quantum class, the RS, PS, OS and GS these suites got inclusive wifi and inclusive drink packages, the playing field will have at least been leveled out some.

How difficult could it be to make the following suites on non Oasis/Quantum equal to:

RS and PS Star Class

OS and GS (RFS) Sky Class

JS Sea Class (All categories of JS)

Gold cards for pinnacle remain or White as on the biggies.

For the most part the reclassification of suite codes has remained pretty much the same on the lesser sized ships.

So if I have accidentally not used the correct codes, please excuse me.

Just my opinion from 1st hand experience sailing in the different levels of suites across the fleet, big and small.

So looking forward to the RS on MSC Seaside, with the Yacht Club experience during a peak week of travel and cheaper than a GS on Oasis or Allure, but getting equal to, if not more than Star Class has to offer.

Still sail RC but looks like there are others out there that actually are "UPPING THEIR GAME"

Happy Days!

I agree with you. I would also like the CL converted to a Suite Lounge.

We actually agree on most everything except smoking. I used to smoke.
