Koningsdam's Flaws/What Can Nieuw Statendam Improve Upon?

Get rid of the Lido pool area movie screen. I seldom saw anyone viewing the movies (most were old and PG rated for obvious reasons. Plus the crew has to turn all the pool lounge chairs to face screen and then later back again to face pool - waste of time plus I am sure the cabins below do not appreciate the noise.

If they won't get rid of the Lido movie screen, at least add adequate sound insulation for those cabins near the screen.

Interesting about the stairs between the casino and music walk. I'm not a fan of wandering smoke smells. I wish the casino were non-smoking, but that's a different topic altogether.

The direction HAL has moved on smoking is that I believe there are now a small handful of machines and you can only smoke there if you are actively playing

The stairs from the Casino to Music Walk were rather pointless.

The hallway between the dining room and Blend... just an empty hallway except for some interactive screens about the culinary council... odd use of a good amount of space.

Photo Gallery... HAL needs to get with the times, use the facial recognition software and they can have a photo gallery that uses 1/4 of the space.

Agree with all of these. Does that mean that those stairs continue to be not available-ie blocked off- for actually walking up/down? If so, what is the point of them in the first place?

Much less enjoyable. For anyone who likes to walk the promenade for exercise, you just get a good speed up and then have to slow to a crawl around corners to avoid running into someone coming the other way (the wrong way, but that's another thread). ;):D
I'll confess....I don't know which way is the right way. (I'm hoping counter-clockwise.:o )

Yes, counter-clockwise. But wrong-way traffic on the K promenade is not a big problem because it is very sparsely used compared to ships with nice promenades.

I totally enjoyed my two weeks on the Koningsdam last summer and I wouldn't hesitate to book her again. However, there are always some improvements that can be made. The ones I would suggest are common ones.

First, fix the promenade. Yes, you can get all the way around, but the loss of a view in spots and the narrow passageways take away from one of HAL's more unique and enjoyable features.

Next, do something so that one does not have to walk through the casino on deck 3 to get from the World Stage to the shops and Grand Dutch Cafe or the rest of that deck.

Lastly, yes there is a need for more seating for the Dutch Cafe.

I hope people have voiced their opinions to HAL so that they are aware of such problems.

So what genius decided that a larger ship needs fewer elevators?
IMO they could have easily put 6 in the center of the K, but that would have eliminated 10 inside cabins (2 on each of 5 decks) that produce income. I believe the RCI monster Oasis class ships only have two elevator banks, but more elevators per bank.

(sic) Please reassure me as to whether I should go on this ship with all its "flaws"........
Like the Prinsendam, some people are ecstatic about the ship and others, like me, not so much. While I do like many of the new features, overall I rank it below Nieuw Amsterdam and Eurodam on my preference list. I have no way to know if you would like the ship or not.

The stairs between the music venues and the casino presented a significant noise issue on my cruise, since the two floors can hear each other.

Having the tunes from the dueling pianos rise up to the casino isn't a problem. But, imagine the sounds of degenerate gamblers (self included ) whooping it up at the dice table. Then think about that bleeding downstairs, particularly during the classical concerts. Now that IS an issue.
