They and other officers may attend if invited. Leave the officer's personal invites at Passenger Services Desk. You can get the names of the officers you want to invite by looking in the Patter when you first board, put their names on an envelope and ask the clerk at the PSD to forward them for you.

so the officers and cruise director don't participate? I have done this on NCL and it is a nice meeting. OK just checking

Setting up a couple of these, and providing invitations to senior staff, I've found that it is mostly the Cruise Director or Hotel Manager who will attend. Often the Captain and Senior officers have duties to attend to on the first sea day, including weddings.

It is, however, a Cruise Critic gathering, and Princess will at least provide a venue and no-host bar when contacted in advance. It is really a time for us to put faces with avatar names and get to know each other, although many of the casual conversations with ship's officers can be entertaining and informative.

Thanks. Husband and I will be on the Ruby 3/3/2018. If anyone is interested I could ask about a room. Will just leave it open to see.

Have you joined the Roll Call for your cruise? It is usually there that the M&G is planned. Someone contacts Princess to plan a date, time and location for the meeting. Someone (usually the same person) will then send invites to al the officers. This is usually done right after boarding on day 1.

Princess M&Gs do not compare with NCLs. No food, no hot drink, no soft drink, fewer officers.

There is also an absolute embargo on private shorex discussions. Money for same changing hands may lead to being put off in the next port. See their Rule 11

11. RESPONSIBILITY TOCOMPLY WITH LAW AND REGULATIONS, RULES OF SHIP; NO SOLICITATION.

A M&G is what you make it when you are the one that plans it. Some or very nice and you make friends for the cruise or for life. Sometimes you are the only one that show up. It's always worth a try so go to your M&G then after a few cruises step up and plan one for your rollcall.

As an organizer of many Meet & Greets if the organizer contacts the Princess contact for your cruise you can ask them for a list of the current officers. Remember to contact them after the 1st of the month for a list. Having this list is very helpful as you can already have letters & envelopes already addressed with there names so it looks more professional.

Some people use the M&G as a location to finalize organization of their private tours, including gathering of payments. This is technically against the rules, and if blatant can result in organizers being put off the ship.

What I've done when leading the meeting is to ask for the people who are organizing tours to stand up to be recognized, but then have clearly stated that any private interactions or arrangements for meeting be handled discretely after the M&G is officially over, preferably once they are on shore.

Assuming you mean the time to send any invites. It's a terrible time for a M&G IMO.

  • 4 weeks later...

We are on the Royal Princess March 30th cruise and I'm trying to arrange a "Meet & Greet" for those on the roll call that are interested.

I was told by Princess that they would provide a space at the bar next to the casino either at 10:00 A.M. or 11:00 A.M. on the first sea day. They will arrange a cash bar and dry snacks.

I need to confirm a head count no later than 2 weeks prior to sailing.

Note that if you want any officers to attend, you will need to send them invitations. I get two packs of invites at our dollar store and fill them out in advance, leaving the name blank. When I board, I add the officers names from the patter and drop them at the front desk, usually by 1pm or so.

Hi Paul,

Good point.

I actually got a list of officers from someone who recently returned from a Royal Princess cruise that they posted by name & rank.

I will need to confirm those officers are still on board when we get there, but it's a good place to start.

Also, need more cruise critic members who are on the cruise to sign up before this "Meet & Greet" get's off the ground.

So far, our head count is only 9 people out of a possible 30+.

Al
