logan25 Posted December 8, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 8, 2017 Just disembarked the Jade. Ate dinner several times at Cagney's. Partook of the bread and whipped "butter" on several occasions. I did not think it tasted like butter, real butter. In fact, I did not think it tasted like anything, kind of like whipped air. What do you think? I ate once at Le Bistro. Ate the bread and butter. Now that tasted like butter, authentic butter.
Rare Peachypooh Posted December 8, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 8, 2017 Cagney's whipped butter always tasted like butter to me but you can probably ask for the little butter packets like they have in the buffet if you want to make sure.
Zenica Posted December 8, 2017 #3 Share Posted December 8, 2017 Strange, on Breakaway last week we were given the packets of Presidential butter.

I personally hate it. To me it has no taste (probably because by whipping it, it contains less butterfat). When whipped it gives it more volume without adding the butterfat. I like the butterfat!!! Whenever I get the "whipped" butter, I always ask for packets of butter.
logan25 Posted December 8, 2017 Author #5 Share Posted December 8, 2017 In my experience, butter when added to a recipe, without any other overpowering competition, carries a distinct flavor note of butter. I cook with butter and without butter. I still detected no butter flavor in the whipped version at Cagney's. Next time I will request identifiable (by label and by taste) butter be served to me. Lots of times the scoop of whipped butter on a steak is UNSALTED and has very little taste. bosco
Loonbeam Posted December 8, 2017 #7 Share Posted December 8, 2017 To make it easier to whip and aerate the butter used is also often bulk butter blend, unsalted and with some oil mixed in. Think Smart Balance. It's butter but generally not very good butter. Where as President was ranked as a top butter in a recent article I read... roger001 Posted December 8, 2017 #8 Share Posted December 8, 2017 Got mixed emotions about it. It does seem a bit lacking on flavor. However, it is really easy to just scoop out of the little butter containers and spread. I feel strongly about it both ways.
casofilia Posted December 8, 2017 #9 Share Posted December 8, 2017 As we would say in New Zealand it is "Clayton's Butter". Just like butter but not really butter!!!
LrgPizza Posted December 8, 2017 #10 Share Posted December 8, 2017 All whipped butter lacks flavor, in my opinion. But I would expect it to.
ray98 Posted December 8, 2017 #11 Share Posted December 8, 2017 It is just whipped unsalted butter, it shouldn't have a string flavor.

WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot Posted December 9, 2017 #13 Share Posted December 9, 2017 It has no taste because it’s stored next to the bananas.
dexddd Posted December 9, 2017 #14 Share Posted December 9, 2017 This is a funny thread. Yeah, it is nice and easy to spread but has very little taste. Maybe it is Chiffon....and don't fool mother nature.
boscobeans Posted December 9, 2017 #15 Share Posted December 9, 2017 Unsalted butter, whipped or not, is just like what it is made of, cream? Almost no flavor in cream... bosco
Paul S Posted December 9, 2017 #16 Share Posted December 9, 2017 President and similar butters have more taste, whether salted or unsalted, because they are made using cultured (fermented) cream rather than plain cream.
DaisyGoldberg Posted December 16, 2017 #17 Share Posted December 16, 2017 Might as well spray Pam on your bread as use unsalted butter. On the plus side, makes it easy to skip the bread calories.
