Rare Host CJSKIDS Posted December 14, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 14, 2017 Saw this article today in the Miami New Times. Not something fun to read, that's for sure. http://www.miaminewtimes.com/news/florida-family-finds-hidden-spy-camera-in-their-room-on-a-carnival-cruise-ship-9908687
lcpagejr Posted December 14, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 14, 2017 Give me a break??? Read this snippet from the article and tell me there was a little fabrication and a setup likely??? The family, a married couple from the Panhandle traveling with their 10-year-old son, says they found the camera while inspecting their room the second day of an October cruise from Mobile, Alabama, to Mexico. The father, whom New Times is not naming to protect his family's privacy, says he was taking photos of dust around the cabin after having an allergy attack. When he moved the TV, he says, he found a wired-up camera with its lens pointed toward the bed. Taking pictures of dust?? Why not just contact your room steward and then his manager if not satisfied?? Also, based on the size of camera in picture...hard time believing this camera would not have been seen earlier. This guy was looking for a free cruise and was going to send in pictures showing dust and make a big fuss of it. He probably placed the camera there for more sensationalism and poored dust on it lol....

sandy toes Posted December 14, 2017 #4 Share Posted December 14, 2017 IF truly dust, call steward to re-clean or call housekeeping Captain. OK so you pulled out the TV and found a camera. Good job called security. I do not think the remote reception on ship is wonderful. Most shots are probably on a Card. Wonder if he reviewed the card before calling security? Said pointed at the bed...except for some fun bed activities I do not think the child would have been in undress stages where the camera was aimed. Cameras are EVERYWHERE, filming us and I have decided that I am OK with the footage they will take. Hope they enjoy!

MMastell Posted December 15, 2017 #6 Share Posted December 15, 2017 This very well could be a hoax but it could also be legitimate. With today's technology it could well have been on the TV for X number of cruises. The wireless cameras have about a 4 - 12 hour battery life before recharging. That is if it doesn't have a motion detector and is constantly streaming. There are VERY high tech and quite large cameras that can go for days but what the security officer had in his hands wasn't one. If there was dust on it then I would say the battery was dead and inoperative. No matter, at some point the camera was eavesdropping on the occupants of the cabin. If the person who discovered it was looking for a free cruise they take the cake for originality. I do understand why they would take pictures before they called Guest Services. It would be to document it. I would just call Guest Services and send the steward to clean the room. I did that on my last cruise on Miracle where our Vista Suite was filthy and not all of it was the steward's fault. If this was legit it's very scary. Yes, you can take the side of "You are always on camera" but it shouldn't invade our homes, bedrooms, hotel rooms and cruise ship cabins. We still have a right to privacy and basic decency. If they streamed my cabin, I could just see that it would be on some porn website titled "Fat, Old, Bald Guy Gets Lucky". It would have at least 1 view. :) Take care, Mike

BonnieSte Posted December 15, 2017 #8 Share Posted December 15, 2017 IMHO if this were true it would be all over the nightly news. Especially with all the people being accused of sexual harassment etc. right now.

Pellaz Posted December 15, 2017 #12 Share Posted December 15, 2017 Someone started a thread about the "Carnival camera in a cabin" over on the Royal Caribbean board. I was tempted to stop by and burst their collective bubble, but it'll be more fun to watch. :D

ohiowilly Posted December 16, 2017 #14 Share Posted December 16, 2017 As soon as I saw the name of the cruise-ship chasing lawyer JW mentioned in the article, it became clear that the story was garbage. I remember the add-on tv remote sensors in the cabins well quite well. The whole story screams rubbish.

I don't know. I'd have to question Heald's comments. I work with pinhole cameras like this: And this photo of the device found in the room looks an awful lot like a pinhole camera with lens:

Jeffn57 Posted December 17, 2017 #22 Share Posted December 17, 2017 It could all be a conspiracy by the Russians. They may have hacked into the Carnival TV broadcasts.
