Anthem coming back sooner?? almost in harbor

Recommended Posts

I take it you were not on that week.

Spending the night at the dock vs at sea is quite a bit different. I would consider it shortened. But not the end of the world

Does it really matter if Merion Mom was on that cruise or not?

"We" were on this 12 night sailing too and IMO, getting into the port 11 hours earlier than our original arrival time does not define a shorten cruise to me

I detest selfish entitled people. I would be upset too but someone was sick enough for this to happen. Whole in would be upset, I would be thankful for my health and hope the sick person will make a recovery.

Entitled people, I agree, they're on every ship, ran into two of them this week on board

I remember looking out to sea and commenting to my husband that it was getting rough out there.

It was a choppy ride for quite a while.

Then what cause all that motion in our forward located cabin the evening of day 11 and on day 12 as we were also on that sailing.

Also why was it that the captain announced that passenger couldn't be medevac because of the weather conditions, as in rough seas.

We were on that cruise and our plans changed too. We lost a bit of money as well. I was disappointed that our cruise was shortened, while accepting that "ship happens". I said a prayer for the sick person and was happy that the captain put life before profit. Royal Caribbean certainly lost money from the Casino and the Shops.

While having your cruise end 11 hours early sucks, seems the Captain made some very logical decisions. I would not have felt entitled to compensation. The decision to stay in port cost Royal a lot of money. Lost revenue and likely port charge to stay overnight. The sick passenger took precedence over Royal’s profit motive.

My reference to her being on the cruise deals with whether or not she would find the cruise to be shortened.

Yes, you got off on the day scheduled, but cruising for the most part is not about transportation from point A to B, or even back to A.

Unlike you, I wasn't there, nor have I ever sailed on Anthem. Based on my experience many venues on the ship would not be operating. Was that the case?

Was the casino open?

FWIW, heading back early was prudent and I applaud the staff for making the right decision. However, the cruise was shortened.

Our MJ cruise prior to Irma came in a day early and we were given a 25% FCC and the original C&A points.

Enjoy your evening

We were on that cruise, and indeed we were back in port early, the casino and all stores had to close by 7:00 p.m. which I am sure what disappointing to some people, but come on, there was a medical emergency, I think that we have a lot of people who need to get their priority straight. The cruise was not shortened, we just arrived at dock earlier than planned, still had full use of the ship aside from casino and stores. No reason to ask for a refund.

solulty no reason to ask for a refund.

When the Grandeur sails out of Baltimore, shops and casino can't open until Day 2. They close at 5 on the final sea day.

That's life.

By returning Thursday night and not Friday morning, the Omer tournament was cut short and eliminated the opportunity for my wife to qualify after spending $500 to date. A special raffle was moved from 10 pm to 6:30, and we had dinner plans. All because the ship was in Port and EVERYTHING HAD TO BE CLOSED. ALSO......there was “no” last evening because everything was closed.

A shortened tournament and moving of a special raffle vs a human life.

In light of our fellow poster Harvey's "compassion" I am posting this good deed I witnessed at the dock in Antigua when the Anthem returned back to port due to a medical emergency (on the same cruise in discussion)..... .......

A kind compassionate deed I witnessed at the dock in Antigua while the ambulance was taking the sick patient away. The older lady accompanying the patient was a complete wreck given the circumstances. A total stranger from my ship (Carnival Pride) who was standing right beside me on the dock watching this at close quarters stepped forward to comfort the lady while she was leaving and out of the goodness of her heart emptied out her wallet and gave the poor lady all her cash, saying here you will need this more than I will! I saw a couple of $100 bills:eek: !!!!!! What an angel!

Thanks for sharing that story. What an incredible gesture of kindness.

Well, not exactly, that is the standard procedure for that cruise itinerary. :*

If you don't know before you book, it can be a rude awakening, as they say. Royal Caribbean certainly doesn't tell you.

And it has gotten worse (more restrictive) in the past year.

So, a reasonable comparison and a fair thing for me to post.

We were on that sailing and it really didn’t make much of a difference to us. It was the last night and bags had to go out in the hall so we were in early. Saved money with the casino closed!!! Royal lost revenue with casino and shops closed so I don’t think they were trying to annoy passengers.

So no one cruises a ship more than once and has a reasonable expectation. 😉

Oh, and did you ever say when the casino and shops usually close on Anthem? I may want to sail her someday.

It might even end up in Florida after her 2020 dry dock.

They made that ship for the northeast and it is perfect for sailing in the winter. Doubt it's going to florida especially since it sails 100% full all year round.

All ships sail 100% full. The key is at what price. 😉

FWIW, it gets colder in the winter here as well. They could do Bermuda out of PC and miss all that nasty NE weather.

Yes it sucks if things don't go to plan but that is life and you make the most of it. We travelled all the way from Australia to travel on MSC Divina and stupid me left our passports in the aircraft seat pocket on our way down to Miami after visiting family in Buffalo who were also joining us on the cruise. We did not realise I had misplaced the passports until the morning of the cruise. Naturally we were unable to cruise and had to wave our family goodbye without us. Yes it sucked but because of this we had to go to Washington so my other half got to see the White House and a few other sights she never would have seen. We also returned to Northern NY whilst we awaited our new passports and spent time with other family in a very small country town that we otherwise would not had done. We ended up having a wonderful holiday although I am never to be trusted with passports again ha ha.

To the complainers, imagine if it were one of your family who had to be evacuated quickly. How would you feel ? Life is too short to get all hung up on your ship arriving 11hrs early. Be thankful for your health and make the most of life.
