sail7seas Posted February 12, 2018 #2 Share Posted February 12, 2018 Welcome back.:0 Sorry, I have no idea if they are a thing. Not something i ever 'indulged' in. :) That would knock me flat.
ithaca gal Posted February 12, 2018 #3 Share Posted February 12, 2018 Was on two HAL cruises last Month. Never thought to ask!
Rare kazu Posted February 12, 2018 #4 Share Posted February 12, 2018 They are still available. If you don't see them on the bar menu, just ask. The bartenders know the recipe :)
Krazy Kruizers Posted February 12, 2018 #5 Share Posted February 12, 2018 The bar tenders on all HAL ships know about the Wang Wangs and how to make them. The recipe is passed on from one bar tender to another one -- even new bar tenders quickly learn how to make them. Just ask.
taxmantoo Posted February 12, 2018 #6 Share Posted February 12, 2018 They are still available. If you don't see them on the bar menu, just ask. The bartenders know the recipe :) Had a few last month at Happy Hour. As Kazu says, not on any menu, but widely available in all bars.

Rare kazu Posted February 12, 2018 #9 Share Posted February 12, 2018 Now I need to know what's in a Wang Wang. Do I really need to try one? A lot of people like them. Here is the recipe courtesy of Copper from another Wang Wang thread: All the ship bartenders are familiar with what a Wang Wang is, and can make you one 1/4 oz Vodka 1/4 oz Gin 1/4 oz White Rum 1/4 oz Scotch 1/4 oz Bourbon 1/4 oz Tequila 1/4 Triple Sec 1/4 oz Brandy Top it off with Pineapple and Orange Juice Add a splash ofGrenadine

Rare ski ww Posted February 12, 2018 #13 Share Posted February 12, 2018 I love them, great at sail away. Just the thing to start a cruise off right. Allan
Epicureangirl Posted February 12, 2018 #14 Share Posted February 12, 2018 The Assistant Cruise Director on the Volendam told everyone doing Trivia about the Wang Wang (probably trying to generate sales for the Crow's Nest). Apparently it is a "Staff Favorite" with 5 top-shelf liquors and I forget the rest of the description. From the recipe, I'm wondering which ones are top-shelf? I gathered you can get hammered with just one drink. Pretty safe to say they will still be available for your upcoming cruise. ENJOY! ;p
trixiee Posted February 12, 2018 #15 Share Posted February 12, 2018 Are they covered under the Signature Bev Card?
KroozNut Posted February 12, 2018 #16 Share Posted February 12, 2018 Are they covered under the Signature Bev Card? If they're $9 or less they are. I'm not sure I could walk after one of those!! (But I'm going to try one on our upcoming Eurodam sailing - we have the SBP) :D

I'm not sure I could walk after one of those!! (But I'm going to try one on our upcoming Eurodam sailing - we have the SBP) :D After reading the list of liquor in that cocktail, I would guess it costs at least $ 9.00 ;p
Sea42 Posted February 12, 2018 #20 Share Posted February 12, 2018 It is only a 1/4 OZ of each so 2 OZ of alcohol. So it may cost what any double shot cost. Not sure how much that would be.
Rare *Miss G* Posted February 12, 2018 #21 Share Posted February 12, 2018 I had a couple (on different days) and I can guarantee you they used less alcohol than that. At least on my sailing.

By the SBP rules then, that would count as 2 drinks against your daily 15 drink limit.
billbunger Posted February 13, 2018 #23 Share Posted February 13, 2018 Wang Wangs are considered a single drink, depending on what ship you are on there can be various recipes for it. As for the supposed amounts of liquor that are poured the bar tenders do not measure the amount of each liquor used. They just pour away. Some do lots of liquor some do less. How do I know? I have been drinking them for years. A good bartender will keep you happy. Happy hour Wang Wangs are a great deal. BTW they are considered one drink and you are charged the regular cocktail rate regardless of the amount of liquor poured.
