Not going well on Sun cruise .

You can use the non-refundable OBC for Cruise Next Deposits so we always do that with excess OBC. No sense in trying to come up with things to spend it on as long as you know you will cruise NCL again.....and having your total deposit made by NCL with a Cruise Next they paid for is especially nice.

I'm trying to figure this out... if I have $100 OBC and I use it for a 1 deposit CruiseNext voucher, can I also use my free $100 on board credit from the CruiseNext voucher and thus I only pay $50 for $250 voucher?

star and other ships are getting new decking from this company... im freaking about our PC cruise that leaves Sunday on Star knowing its on the list for this flooring.

I'm having a similar freak out over here. We're leaving on the Breakaway for the TA heading into dry dock in two weeks. I'm sensitive to chemicals and can't even walk down the cleaning aisle at the grocery store without coughing. At this point I can only hope that NCL has learned from the Sun PC and won't repeat the action.

To the OP and others on the Sun PC, I'm so sorry this happened to you and I hope you get the result you deserve.

Interesting about not being able to use the OBC in the casino. This must be very new as we did it last November and our daughter did used hers in Jan. As for the DSC, that you are right about, if it is non refundable OBC can not be used for that. It is obvious why.

It is obvious? I guess they want the passengers to pay the crew? Not NCL?

Spending about half of our OBC in the shops wasn't ideal...but it was the best choice for us. I realize that NCL got some of that OBC back in the kick-back they must get from the vendor that operates the shops.

We did choose liquor and perfume that we will use...so it wasn't a total waste.

Good to know.

We've never been a fan of the Cruise Next type programs because we never know who we'll cruise with next. So far in 15 cruises we've cruised with four different cruise lines.

And while we do enjoy the Haven experience, we're considering trying one of the all-inclusive lines ... because I've heard the price is about the same as the Haven.

Check out the guy's post history. He's the real deal.

He's picking on the CC member with the most credibility of anyone on here. If I want the true story of how a situation may have occurred by someone with real life knowledge, I search out posts by Chengkp75. Don't pick on the OG! They know of which they speak!

That's what I hate about cruise lines. They really couldn't give a damn about the customer. Giving 25% credit on next cruise. Don't make me laugh. That is a smoke screen for giving you nothing. WHO would book with NCL again when they paid a lot of money for a cruise, let alone a sea to sea Panama cruise, have it ruined by construction that is making them sick ? No warning prior to the cruise. No discount offered.

People have to stop just giving the cruise lines money and let them treat you as a number. If that happened then there wouldn't be these massive behemoths they are building now and the cruise lines would have to go back to serving the CUSTOMER.

The corporate defenders can point at contracts all they want, but the rest of us know a bad deal when we see one. A little bit of common sense tells you this is completely disrespectful of the clients time and money. If this happened routinely even the loyalists would be gone! Since this does not happen routinely, and is completely overboard in the scope of work, the resolution should go beyond a token credit for a future cruise.

Honestly, is there anyone that would NOT be disappointed with being on the trip of a lifetime like this in these conditions? I can tell you this much, many of the things described would absolutely ruin our trip. Chemical fumes give my wife severe headaches and nausea. This is not amusing. It is completely indefensible.

You know, you can very much like what NCL does 99% of the time and shout their pros from the mountain top, but show some empathy and call a spade a spade the other part of the time when they screw up BIG TIME.

Punishing the working man for the corporation's wrong doings... Good plan! (That's sarcasm)

What? No one has suggested punishing the crew.

But corporations know only ONE language, money. So hit 'em in the wallet. It is the ONLY thing they ever listen to. If this has started making syndicated news you can be sure NCL's about to cough up a lot more than the nothingburger 25%.

Heck, Royal Caribbean gave me 20% FCC when my door lock broke and it took 90 mins to get security and maintenance to arrive at 2AM to let us in, and I didn't even ask for anything!

That is totally unbelievable. Ncl should have cancelled this cruise

Ncl should be refunding all the pax

No I'm not litigious nor do I ask for anything I'm not entitled to but the fact is that none of the pax on this ship are getting the cruise they booked.

However, they are getting a dangerous health issue cruise with a captain that was thrown to the lions by ncl

Ncl this is a disgrace !!!

In more ways than 1

Well said. No-One has asked why the switch in Captains at the start of the cruise. Seems strange to me to have a captain come on for a single cruise before a dry dock renovation. Maybe the former captain refused corp and CEO Del Rio had him replaced. The videos on the FB for the Panama Canal Sun are pretty damning. The captain made it clear in his short visit that the decision was made at the Top of Corp and was out of his hands.

Gee... seems to very similar to how the Captain and NCL management reacted to passengers complaints on the NCL Star cruise from HK to Sydney with known engine problems in Jan-Feb 2017 which I was on!... And here I am going on the Sun for the Panama Canal cruise after coming out of dry dock! I guess we should bring our own masks!

You and I think alike! I am on the Star's TA 4/22 just prior to its renovation. I ordered 2 respirators yesterday from Amazon just to be safe. I was on the Star during its initial Azipod problem in 10/15 which probably was never fixed correctly leading up to your 2017 problem.

I emailed my TA (I am in Australia they are in US) to contact ncl to see if something similar is planned for our upcoming Star cruise as has been speculated on this thread (it goes into dry dock shortly). My ta has misunderstood my email and contacted ncl about the Sun, they reported there was no major work done and it was only done in port not while cruising which is completely at odds with what has been reported here and elsewhere. So ncl happy to completely lie and misreport to those who sell their product. This is unethical and very similar to how they dealt with the azipod issues we encountered on the Star.

Captains work on a 10 week rotation--10 weeks on a ship- 10 weeks vacation.

Captain Grbic had been on vacation. He arrived for his FIRST contact as Captain and Master of The Sun the day the Panama cruise began.

What I don’t understand is, if they knew they were going to be disrupting this much of the ship and passengers on this sailing, then why not market as a an “under construction” cruise?

Then sell it as a discount to the passengers with the knowledge some parts of the ship will be worked on at random times, locations, etc? I have a feeling they would still be able to fill the ship with locals or people who can’t normally afford to cruise (college kids etc.), without pissing off their normal sailing demographic.

By handling it in a wait and see fashion, they now have betrayed people’s trust, lost future revenue, have to offer the 25% voucher and now risk bad press. Why is NCL so against transparency?

Very well said!

I know there is always maintenance on a ship but how would NCL like it if I held my payment back for the amount of the ship not in use about 25% at all times. Walking track, upper decks, outside bar, one restaurant included in our payment not to mention the breathing issues, swollen red eyes, and coughing. We saved for 2 years to go on this cruise and we expected a whole ship with no health hazards.

Exactly !!!!! It's not just NCL it's the whole industry.

I was booked on a Holland America cruise for May 2017 which I booked in 2015. It was for Alaska and I booked it for GB and Skagway as must destinations. When Dec 2016 came around I was here on CC and noticed that someone on the same sailing had a letter from HA saying they cancelled the 2 must see places that I chosen the cruise for. Contacted my TA and they didn't know about the changed. I never was informed from HA.

HA would not let me change to another ship departing the next day so I could see GB and SKG. I had talked to 2 couples that were changed at no cost. HA wanted $500 more.

I looked up the GB schedule on CIAL and HA wasn't even given permission to go into GB back in Aug 2016. So they had no right to post that itinerary. To top it off the kept posting that itinerary right up till March 1st 2017.

Before the Corporate supporters come on and say the company can change ports, it's in the contract, HA showed this itinerary even though they knew they didn't win the "lottery " so to speak , for GB.

What I'm getting at is NCL wouldn't warn anyone about construction just like HA kept a itinerary on their site even though they knew they couldn't go there.

It's all about money and to hell with the customer

Thanks I frankly feel sorry for the poor man, thrown into a hornets nest Kobi Ashi Maru although that's not spelled correctly. I personally think NCL needs to be taught a lesson and support a 100% refund and full medical costs and a Tweet from President Trump to Del RIO with his catch phrase. Maybe if the penalty is high enough the CEO won't try to shorten dry dock time at passengers expense. I have no problem with maintenance or even some prep work for dry dock, but the story here is way more than what I call reasonable.

Wow can’t believe all the complaining. If you have a problem with NCL then sail another cruise line!

WOW !!! Say that to the family that just got off the Sun. They had the parents, brothers, sister and 6 kids all waiting and saving for this cruise for 2 years. $70,000 in total fares. They are from where I live and the news did an in depth interview which was on Canadian wide TV tonight.

You might have money to burn but they sure didn't.

Your comment is so disrespectful :(

Without wanting to offend and tell what to do, in this single instance try to Ignore trolls and those who just jump into threads at the end without reading the depth and gravity of what is actually going on and don’t let them get to you. ;)

I agree the comment was disrespectful.
