TEXASMUNK Posted April 13, 2018 #1 Share Posted April 13, 2018 That is what the Roatan authorities are estimating the repair time for the pier. Despite the claims in the PR release by MSC, the damage is far more extensive. I would think it the repairs were left to the Honduran Government, it could take years but I get a feeling that MSC, NCL RCI and others will press to get it done within the time frame. Before NCL built the original pier, Roatan was a best kept secret for divers. But, once cruiselines began coming, the economy has dramatically improved, tons of Europeans and North Americans have built homes. 3 months! Probably see more itineraries adding Belize into the rotation more often. PS...no facts, just my own speculation.

bradsnana Posted April 13, 2018 #4 Share Posted April 13, 2018 Why couldn't they tender until the pier is repaired? Seems like a huge loss of revenue for the island. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Charles4515 Posted April 13, 2018 #5 Share Posted April 13, 2018 There is another pier. The one used by Carnival Corp. Perhaps they can arrange to use that one when Carnival Corp does not have ships scheduled. Of course the Carnival Corp berth might be fully scheduled. Rare BirdTravels Posted April 13, 2018 #6 Share Posted April 13, 2018 In the case of the MC Allure of the Seas of the Royal Caribbean company, which was scheduled to arrive on May 10 for the first time in Roatan, has canceled its arrival. The ship is considered to be the second largest ship in the world, with the ability to accommodate more than 6000 passengers onboard. The Allure will remove Roatan from its itinerary for the remainder of this season.

vistapat Posted April 13, 2018 #8 Share Posted April 13, 2018 What's considered "this season." End of the year? Beginning of Summer? I'd like to know that too. On Allure at the end of September and Roatan is a scheduled port call. Pat
nat9511 Posted April 13, 2018 #9 Share Posted April 13, 2018 It is on my itinerary for January 2019 also. Hope it doesn't change since it has been years since I have been there.
WillTravelForFood Posted April 13, 2018 #10 Share Posted April 13, 2018 We are on the Allure May 20th so my guess is we won't be stopping there anymore. I wonder if they will replace it with another port or if we will have another sea day?

mom2tcdx2 Posted April 17, 2018 #15 Share Posted April 17, 2018 We don't have Roatan scheduled for a stop until 2020, at least our October cruise on the Allure doesn't have Roatan listed as a stop.
JT1962 Posted April 17, 2018 #16 Share Posted April 17, 2018 Santo Tomas de Castilla in Guatemala is a possible alternative port until repairs are made. I am not sure if the port there has a limit on the size of the ships they can handle. NCL and HAL make regular stops there. Otherwise, Costa Maya, Belize, Cozumel or Grand Cayman are likely substitutions, if not already on the scheduled itinerary.
