klannin Posted August 3, 2018 #476 Share Posted August 3, 2018 I don't believe so. JamieLogical, I have noticed you know a lot about the bidding process, We booked the Jade for Aug, 25th Fjords cruise, we did this 2 weeks ago, all that was left was inside, we have Bid for a Balcony, still only has inside sailway left, it was sold out total, but did come back with the inside, what are the odds of some magic happening and getting a Balcony? LOL
klannin Posted August 3, 2018 #477 Share Posted August 3, 2018 Sailing on the Pearl, departs August 5th out of Seattle. Just received the email "Unable to Confirm Your Upgrade". I bid max, $450 per person, $900.00 total, upgrade bid from inside to balcony, did not bother bidding on the window. My very first cruise in a inside, always have had balcony or higher, my 23rd cruise, next cruise is Platinum on NCL. So....maybe we will find out we like inside?? It's my third trip to Alaska and daughter and I are taking the grandson for his first cruise, so excited, for all of us. Wow, we are in the same situation, 26 cruises, trying to get a Balcony, only had 1 inside, which was 20plus years ago LOL, Hoping for the upgrade Bid, when their is currently no Cabins left. So we might have to fall in Love with the inside also, at least we are on the Ship and will have a great time and you and your family will also. Happy Cruising! teamflames Posted August 3, 2018 #478 Share Posted August 3, 2018 That's who I use and I got an invite and won my bid. how strange! i did several and even asked them why i wasnt being offered the chance to bid and they told me they no longer participate after problems earlier in the program. I have actually switched to another agency and have now been offered chance to bid edit to add - just saw your other post - ah ha

I have actually switched to another agency and have now been offered chance to bid edit to add - just saw your other post - ah ha I am very glad I selected a different internet travel agency to book my upcoming NCL cruise. I won’t use that does participate if I can help it. There are over 50 haven suites available on that sailing next month, and I’d be unhappy if a travel agent kept me from being one of the bidders. styme123 Posted August 3, 2018 #480 Share Posted August 3, 2018 So after much obsessing and reading through almost all of the upgrade threads, I heard back from NCL about my bid. It was denied :-( I bid from a balcony to Spa Haven, $610pp on 8/5 Escape to Bermuda. It was in the poor range but figured I'd give it a shot. I wasn't willing to spend the money to upgrade directly as it was $4,000 more total. Thought I would come back and let everyone know.

LOL Probably pretty low if the sailing is sold out and has been foe a while, but definitely don't give up hope. We have seen some nearly impossible scenarios on these threads before! As long as your bid is an amount you are comfortable with and will be happy with win or lose, then definitely don't lose hope.
njkate Posted August 4, 2018 #483 Share Posted August 4, 2018 Methinks our bid to upgrade from inside to a balcony for Breakaway’s September 14th Baltic cruise won’t get accepted. Our cruise isn’t showing on the Norwegian site at all though I can find a few cabins on other online sites but only for embarkation/disembarkation in Warnemunde, our first port. Presumably some folks from the cruise before ours have that as their start/finish. Oh well.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Don't give up hope, my 08/18 cruise to the Baltics also vanished from website, so thought well that's it no upgrade. I received email on or about 07/11 that my bid for a Haven 2 bedroom was accepted. I was in a mini suite and my bid was in the poor range. No one on this thread and I mean no one has 100% certainty into what goes in to a bid being accepted or denied there are way too many variables. A lot of good guess work, but that's about it. cswee1932 Posted August 4, 2018 #485 Share Posted August 4, 2018 Waiting for the bidding process is killing us lol...56 days until our wedding and 57 days until we embark on the Getaway!! This is all so exciting!

Cruiseandbooklover85 Posted August 4, 2018 #487 Share Posted August 4, 2018 Glad you are getting upgrades!! Congrats! We are going on 10 day NCL cruise from Rome on aug 30. Have not heard about my upgrade offers yet. Has anyone heard anything about this particular cruise and upgrades? (Norwegian spirit) I hope they dont wait until last moment! We are leaving on 8/27 so if we don’t get upgraded until the last minute, we will be gone already. Hello, I am also on this cruise. I bid from an inside stateroom to a balcony. I was notified of the great news on 7/25. I didn't expect the email until way later but was very pleasantly surprised.
boopsahoy Posted August 4, 2018 #488 Share Posted August 4, 2018 I think from experience thta they upgrade the lower level cabins first to see what they can fill and move up as time goes y. I got upgraded from balcont to Haven and only found out a dew days before the cruise. Enjoy!
peiguy48 Posted August 5, 2018 #489 Share Posted August 5, 2018 Hi fellow cruisers, How many days out before your cruise does the possibility of an chance to bid for an upgrade happen? Thanks,
GA Dave Posted August 5, 2018 #490 Share Posted August 5, 2018 Hi fellow cruisers, How many days out before your cruise does the possibility of an chance to bid for an upgrade happen? Thanks, Or ally 80 days prior to sailing date. There have been a few who reported it was a little closer to cruise date than that for them. Also, if you used a TA, check and ask them if they opted out of the program. That happens with some.
moonkitten1 Posted August 5, 2018 #491 Share Posted August 5, 2018 Hi everyone! Sailing on the 8/19 getaway cruise through casinos at sea. I was comped for an inside cabin and when asked to upgrade outright was given $700 per person as a price to upgrade to balcony. When I got my email to bid, I knew I wanted to bid higher than I normally would have to hope for a balcony. I bid $200 pp and got the email three weeks out that I was upgraded to a spa balcony. I’m thrilled with this, we normally get vibe passes but because of how hot it will be, we would much prefer the spa either way. Super excited!!! Sastone25 Posted August 5, 2018 #492 Share Posted August 5, 2018 Is it better to bid early when it is 1st offered, or wait a week or so before my cruise to bid?
moonkitten1 Posted August 5, 2018 #493 Share Posted August 5, 2018 Is it better to bid early when it is 1st offered, or wait a week or so before my cruise to bid? I have always bid right away and have always been upgraded. There’s a chance to be upgraded earlier depending on your bid.
Rare JamieLogical Posted August 6, 2018 #494 Share Posted August 6, 2018 Is it better to bid early when it is 1st offered, or wait a week or so before my cruise to bid? The only real reason to bid ealry is that they do seem to do some early processing when a ship sells out or when they drop prices. So having your bid in for either of those scenarios could be advantageous. For most sailings, though, they process bids the final week before sailing so any bid you put in prior to that time is irrelevant.
Seminole1975 Posted August 6, 2018 #495 Share Posted August 6, 2018 69 days until our cruise and still no offer to upgrade. NCL says it is "technical issues". They said that over a week ago.

Seminole1975 Posted August 6, 2018 #497 Share Posted August 6, 2018 Are you currently booked in a spa room? Yes. A spa balcony mini-suite. I know they say they have been having issues with spa cabins, but what kind of "technical issue" can be so complicated?

I know they say they have been having issues with spa cabins, but what kind of "technical issue" can be so complicated? The third-party system that NCL uses for the upgrade processing (Plusgrade) is primarily used for airlines. I can imagine that airline upgrades are slightly more straight-forward. If NCL has asked them to code something that will ensure spa passengers can only be booked into higher spa categories, that is probably a significant change to their algorithm for processing bids. You wouldn't necessarily want to give spa passengers priority when upgrading over non-spa passengers, but you would want to try to "fairly" match spa passengers to spa cabins where it made financial sense to do so. Probably not easy to work out the kinks.
erdoran Posted August 6, 2018 #499 Share Posted August 6, 2018 Is it better to bid early when it is 1st offered, or wait a week or so before my cruise to bid? Personally, I see no downside to bidding early. IMHO increases your chances of winning a bid in case there are early acceptances. My Bliss sailing did some Haven upgrades at 60 days (not me-sigh....) so those who bid later lost that opportunity.

I will let ya'll know if I get an offer. (And there may be an occasional passenger who would be glad to upgrade to a higher Haven cabin, give up their spa room and then buy the spa outright. I don't know).
