Hi Fletcher. Here is the prawn risotto I cooked last week.   
My husband made stock from  prawn and lobster shells from our Christmas meal.  We pulled it out from the freezer and made a seafood bisque which was delicious. I made the risotto with the bisque left over. 
I sautéed the prawns in a garlic butter before combining them with the risotto. Very rich but tasted much better than it looks.

Good Afternoon Lola,

 

Noticed your love of traditional Jazz and if you find lately unsated by new stuff, there is a wonderful band based in New Orleans called Tuba Skinny who where formed in 2009 are run by a very talented multi-instrument lady Shaye Cohn. 

 

There is a lot of their stuff if you look through Youtube including a lot of street performances in New Orleans and some extended stuff on tour particularly in France.  Shaye manages the band in an interesting style which means that the band makeup on any given day might be quite loose, they must practise with the band to a degree of precision and are extremely “tight” in their freewheeling indulgences but no individual is allowed to "outshine" ie no prima donnas.   If you look closely, Shaye sets the starting beat and decides on the fly with quite subtle signals who plays next.

 

Here's and example but do look for more.  They are a free-wheeling but well rehearsed and precise trad-band.  And sometimes my favourite jazz genre .. some mean ragtime .....

 

This one has a banjo missing but nevertheless is uplifting ....

Agree that in these days of too many "legal disclaimers" and other twisted techniques that it all gets rather tangled and twisted.  Very confusing times!!??  BUT, am glad to know that as of last Friday that I do not have the Covid-19.  With reasonable care and proper actions, hopefully it will continue that way.  

 

Having light rain now in Central Ohio.  Need that moisture.  Later today ad the next three days to be very pleasant and mostly sunny.  Not too hot with enjoyable highs of 68F, 71F and 75F for Monday through Wednesday.  Nice!!  Tuesday am will be my kidney stone lithotripsy crushing "fun".  Any advice and/or wisdom to share from those who have had that procedure??  First time for me having those sound waves zooming in from outside.

Hi Terry, I am not sure, but I am guessing that is what I had........I went to the hospital early in the morning and was put

under.....but it was an out patient procedure.  (released that same day).   The Dr said it was too large to pass so they had to "break it up".   The one thing I do remember....I thought I would be able to go to work within a couple of days....that did not happen.

Little did I realize, even though it was out patient, by day 2 my abdomen area was very sore........I had to take off a week.

  He even said I might have to take off 2 weeks......but I was feeling well enough they released me as ok 

after a week.  So, you might be sore for a while.

I find Tuba Skinny so uplifts the spirits and at the end of every tune I find myself saying "yerrrrrr .............." with a smile.  What more could you want.

 

This is a very recent under lockdown conditions a part of their contribution to a tribute to Satch.

That does look tasty and I do approve of your stock making.  I always throw shells from prawns etc into the freezer for a second life.   Some saffron  threads in the stock adds flavour and  colour. A bit of chopped parsley might have perked your dish up a bit???

Appreciate this added information and helpful follow-up from Lois.  Yes, my Tuesday procedure will be as an out-patient . . . AND . . . am expecting to be "sore" for a few days after.  BUT, sore for how long and how badly with the pain and discomfort??  Will know more Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday.  Maybe!  Any others having had experiences from doing the "fun" with a kidney stone lithotripsy??

Hello Jeff

 

First - how good to hear from you again.  I have just had a short listen to the tapes - feet tapping and a silly grin on my face.  The most cheering thing for me in recent months.  Yes, that lady is a great musician.  I don't know how anyone could not tap their feet listening to this.  Thanks.

 

In my teens my first boy friend introduced me to jazz - starting with Jelly Roll Morton!  We went to a few concerts in Liverpool to see Mick Mulligan with George Melly, when he was young.   And I did like the UK bands, Chris Barber, Humph et al.  Second love is any good guitar playing, from John Williams who we once heard at the Sydney Opera House,  and the likes of Clapton and Santana  and especially Jeff Beck.

 

I trust all is well with you, and you are still enjoying your lovely seaside view.

Hi, I guess that would depend on your pain tolerance?.......it has been at least 2 or 3 years since I had it done 

and I can't remember exactly.  I think I needed pain pills but it was not "terrible".   I just know I sat in my lazy boy

most of the the time and either watched tv/movies and/ or napped for at least the first few days.

Thanks Spinnaker.  Covid test was a non-event but necessitated driving down to Hopkins to get it done.  We are so fortunate to be able to access surgeons at Hopkins for this!

 

another hurricane is headed for Louisiana.  We are supposed to get more than 7 inches of rain and a small tidal surge.  Thank God our house is 14 feet above sea level.
