Anthem of the Seas in Feb

Recommended Posts

Has anyone done Anthem of the Seas out of NJ in February? Were you able to use the pools on any of the sea days? Did the boat get really crowded inside?

There are enclosed, climate controlled pools on Anthem.

I sailed Anthem in January of this year and as Bob said, the solarium pools are enclosed with climate control. There were some brave souls in the pool as the ship was nearing the Carolina's......it was still chilly, but the sun was out.

I did find certain areas of the ship crowded, as most passengers were inside for the first 2 days.

Hi Robyn! You should mention that we were on the "Yeshiva Week" cruise, which had a special dynamic of it's own!

We're also thinking of going on the Anthem in February. We were just on the Anthem last month, and after the cruise, I thought it would be a good cruise to go on during the winter months.

There's plenty to do all around the ship while it's at sea.

There is the Solarium pool as well as the indoor pool to enjoy during the cold sea days.

I think it'll be a good cruise in February. Would it be as good as a July cruise??? That's the big question!!!

We are taking our first cruise on Anthem toward the end of February next year. We cruise every February and are looking forward to not having to drive to Florida from Ontario. We also decided to book a forward facing ocean view room instead of a balcony thinking the balcony room would not be used as much due to the cool days at the beginning and end of the cruise. Really looking forward to cruising on Anthem.

For the last 18 years we have cruised many times from Cape Liberty, New York City and Baltimore in the cold months of February and March.

We generally spend the first day getting organized, checking out the ship and unpacking. After dinner it's a show and an evening donating to the casino.

Sailaways to us are great as we know we are leaving the cold behind and headed to the Caribbean.

By the time we come to on the first full day at sea the ship has been heading South for about 16 hours and we are several hundred miles further away from what we consider to be cold weather. Although it may not be the best weather for outdoor pool activities in the morning but by evening it's almost always shorts and T-shirts for strolls on the outer decks.

On a ships like the Anthem there is so much to do and see in the more protected areas that 3 days out of a 12 day cruise enjoying those days is never a problem.

On the return we can generally still enjoy the sun for the early part of our last full day at sea as we gently get acclimated back to the reality of Winter in the Great Northeast.

For us, spending those 3 NON-OUTDOOR POOL days on a ship rather than in airports and hotels pre and post cruise is a no brainer, considering the fact that we will be home after either a 3 hour (NJ-NYC) or 6 hour drive (Baltimore), with our luggage and no airline hassles.

Hi Megann :)

My wife & I love sailing onboard Anthem in February. The ship is a terrific winter vessel. Yes you can use the ship's large indoor solarium area with pools & hot tubs; as well a large indoor pool area with hot tubs.

The ship never feels crowded at all. Except for of course, during the typical crowded times, such as after muster drill, after a show letting out, or during a sale.

Another bonus sailing in February, especially the beginning of February; is that it's after the holidays & kids are back in school. During our last sailing onboard Anthem it was announced that there were less than 70 children onboard. We encountered extremely well behaved polite children during all of our Anthem 12-night voyages.

Anthem is an awesome ship; especially in the winter and during long sailings.

Click on the two links below, take a peek at the ships (Solarium & Indoor Pool) areas.

Possibly, but the 23rd sailing is February vacation week for our boys ages 16 and 13.

The NH school vacation is out of sync with the NY, NJ, MA, and CT vacations. Also I think PA, MD, DL, and VA are out of sync as well. That is good news.

You can't predict the weather, but you have a chance that it will cooperate and you can be outside on the first and last sea days. There will be kids( your NH neighbors), but it should not be overrun with kids.

We've sailed from Bayonne a number of times in the winter, both on Explorer and Anthem. A couple of times we even left during significant snow storms. It's reassuring to drive to port instead of being at mercy of airlines.

As others have said, Anthem has ample indoor attractions to keep you occupied until you reach warmer climates. Only downside we've encountered is that North Atlantic can be pretty rough that first 36 hours or so until you enter the gulfstream. Because of that would personally prefer mid-ships balcony over that forward facing cabin.

I sailed Anthem twice in January from Beautiful and Gorgeous Bayonne NJ. The first full sea day on the first cruise, the outside temperature was in the 60's. On the second cruise, a light snow came upon us while still in dock making everything more beautiful. All who were outside scrambled to get inside quickly. On both cruises the outdoor decks were not usable on the return to Bayonne on the last full sea day.

By using the forward elevators, you can reach the pool deck without walking outside in the elements.
