Pros and Cons on a Carnival Journey 14 day cruise?

These may be obvious: it's a longer cruise, may visit less frequented ports, and doesn't have a turnaround day like a B2B, The other other advertised "highlights" of Journeys cruises like different menus and themed ot throwback parties didn't matter to this cruiser.

I put together a group cruise so we could get amenities on the 2/9/2020 Panama Canal Partial Transit from NOLA. Lots of Pros.

They sometimes bring in different or bigger name entertainment; different menus, different ports. Also if you join a group cruise meet thread there are often extra activities put together by the group. PJ breakfast. Tastings, etc., etc. You really get to know the crew more, and if you are social, your fellow passengers more. I LOVE longer cruises!!!

We have done two Journey cruises and we like them and expect to book another one next month but there is one definite negative.

These days Carnival does not use flyons other than for journey cruises.

The few they use are pretty much on all of the journey cruises and they even do the same act. Makes the shows rather boring.

The only con factor I can think of is the need to do laundry at some point. If you're Platnum or Diamond, not a problem. If you don't get free laundry, though, be prepared to spend some money or hang out in the laundry room one day.

If you can afford a 2 week cruise, a couple of $15 laundry bags won't break you. Our last 3 cruises were 21, 14 and 14, the 14's were B2B and the 21 was a Journey on the Dream. we love B2B as well, the turn around day is always fun for us.

The only possible con I can think of is if you don't like sea days, there are usually more of them on a Journeys cruise. I did a 12-day Hawaiian cruise on the Carnival Spirit, and thought the 5 days across the Pacific was so relaxing and allowed me to decompress from work stress. Your mileage may vary.

I'm booked on a February 2020 Panama Canal cruise on the Miracle and can't wait.

Some of the differences you will see

Older passengers

Fewer kids

More activities

Less of a rushed feel, fellow passengers will be in more of a chill relaxed mode, than party mode.

This is exactly right, very much on point.

We enjoyed our last Journey...but it was not perfect.

IMO, the CD was rude, condescending and totally out of touch with the changed demographic on board.

He really p___ed off a lot of guests by making ignorant mistakes.

Example: Many lost most of a day in port in San Juan because he would not let them disembark until certain guests showed up in the theater so that they could all go ashore at the same time. After awhile it became clear that those guests had already gone ashore earlier and would never appear in the theater.

Never an oops! or an apology.

I don't believe this for several reasons. The CD has ZERO say on boarding and debarking, out of his bailiwick. Why would all the guests (3000) go ashore at the same time. Many times we just stay aboard.

When my DW retired, three years ago in October, we immediately booked a 12 day journey cruise and just loved the 'extra' time at sea. Since then we haven't done a 7 day or less cruise. We have done a couple of other 12 day cruises a 13 day and a TA, 14 day. This year we are booked on another 14 day TA and an 12 day Mediterranean. Next year we have another 14 TA and a 11 day Hawaiian cruise (all on other cruise lines). My DW feels this is the way to go now. We look for more reposition cruises now, where the prices are pretty low and the cruises are much longer. AND we just love those sea days.

There are NO CONS to longer cruises. If you love cruising, the longer the better.

Cheers

Len

Think you are correct, CD does not have as much authority as some people seem to think.

The OP said "many" and "certain guests" NOT all.

You have a great deal of insight for someone who wasn't there.

Pros:

A longer cruise with new and different ports

Fewer kids

Older crowd, so fewer people just hanging out on the pool deck.

More daily activities added.

Different menus than the normal 7 day.

The Platinum/Diamond line at Guest Services is longer than the ordinary line. (For free entertainment, have a drink close to the desk and eavesdrop on complaints)

Cons:

More expensive

Older crowd, so the sidewalks roll up after 10 pm. More people hanging out in the casino.

More people to cheat at trivia.

The Platinum/Diamond line at Guest Services is longer than the ordinary line.

You tend to spend more money onboard.

Ours was amazing. Can't wait to do it again, but I think our next one will be on an updated/newer ship with more amenities. As much as we love the Spirit class, as much as we love just sitting on the balcony watching the water...... we were a bit bored by Day 10. Next time I'll bring an extra book and spend more time at the gym.

i never heard of this. Once custom clears the ship for disembarkation, they always tell to go wherever the gangway is located

only one cruise we did had to gather in the theater and that was only because it was a ship excursion at a tender port. we board the tender as a group and then went on our tour once we were on land
