I read at Sea,,,, TN this:

As top travel retailers and international media got a first peek at Celebrity Edge today at Chantiers de l'Atlantique, Lisa Lutoff-Perlo announced sister ship Celebrity Apex will debut in Southampton in spring 2020.

Pre-inaugural voyages, the naming ceremony and a mini-season from Southampton are planned before Celebrity Apex repositions to the Mediterranean for the summer.

And full of Brits...nah... I’d forget it too   :D. Much prefer joining the ship in the nice weather with an international mix .

We've just returned from a fly cruise on Constellation. Probably shock you to hear that the British were the majority nationality and the average age probably around 30-40.

Personally I enjoy sailing from Southampton; no stress of flying and wondering whether your baggage will arrive at some overcrowded airport. We usually drive down the previous day and stay in a local hotel. Just booked Silhouette for next year on that basis; cheaper than P&O and RCI for a similar cruise so relay pleased with the deal. Here's to hoping all the moaning Brits fly-cruise next year........

They usually are on the Med cruises. We’ve sailed on Connie a few times so not shocked to hear we were in the majority ;).

This is one funny thread! Listening to the Brits trash the Brits.....kind of like listening to us Colonials roll our eyes listening to one of our loudmouth compatriots. Great stuff.

I always wondered about the Brits and travel. I’d read they are the most ‘traveled’ people in the world. The funny part was when I was in the US Navy, I’d befriend a vacationing Brit couple and take them on board my ship for a quick tour. They’d then take me to their favorite diner and drinks afterwards......the great majority of the time the drinks were in an English-style pub in Napoli, or Barcelona or Palma. They’d drink English stouts and throw the darts. I found it hilarous to spend money traveling and sit in a ‘local pub’! Kind of like us who run to the closest McD’s inport. Crazy aren’t we.

My cut on the Apex - I doubt beyond the first few cruises that the Apex will stay to a 7-day schedule. May have a few short ones to entice and so on, but there’s too much to see out of the UK to restrict it to be a 2-day sail or so there then back.

Looking at another UK-port cruise so we an wander the Isle prior. I understand there is a bit of history to see, said by a guy who grew up in LA and anything older than 1950 was considered ‘historical’. Everything is relative. I once wandered into a church in Honfleur and it was lovely. But a local told me, ‘oh that’s nothing to admire. It was built in 1610 after the original one built in 1145 was burned down in one of innumerable religous wars’. Yeah, ‘1610’, who would care. Of course we Amerian’s do have some great architecture that preceded that, but we tore it all down because it was built by those heathens! All in perspective.

We have never sailed with P & O, we were tempted by an itinerary this year. Looked up the ship on YouTube.... and we stumbled up a thing called "The Great British Sailaway! I watched as my wife stared at the screen mouth wide open, she turned to me and said "is that a special Brexit themed cruise?" when i told here I think they do that on every cruise the decision was quickly made.; We have just booked with Celebrity!

Curiosity got the better of me and I searched Youtube for that video. We're asked almost yearly if we'd like to accompany family members who regularly sail on P&O. I'm not going to lie, that looked quite cringeworthy! Maybe on 02/09/1945 but not in 2018!!!

P&O always struck me as a bit naff. The TV ads are enough to put me off alone but like you, I'm now decided that I'll never book with them after watching that! :D :D :D

But not always so. Whereas there were around 900 British on board on our cruise , our friends on the preceding cruise said there were only a few hundred. Med cruise. School hols. Unpredictable eh?

DRATS!! I was hoping for a Springtime West bound TA. No hurricanes & gaining an hour sleep each night vs the East bounders losing an hour sleep. I figured it might come to Florida for a few Caribbean cruises then a Panama canal to Cal. Maybe then to Hawaii then to Alaska for the summer.

Personally I would imagine that both E class ships will be based in the Caribbean and the Med initially as these seem to be the two most popular markets and perfect for showing off your new ships.

I wish they'd station a decent ship in Asia sometime soon but I suspect it might be a while before we see an S class vessel there too.

the new verandas would be nice in Alaska too. This was my thinking that it might do a Spring TA.

When I first heard about the new verandas I immediately thought they'd be great for Alaskan and Antarctic itineraries. Not so good for warmer climes where I think people might feel a little enclosed.

Be careful for what you wish for. Seems when Cruise lines base new ships in Asia they change the design significantly - way more emphasis on gambling and casinos, for example.

I did read that the Chinese market hasn't been as big as some of the cruise lines had thought and there's speculation of relocating at least one of the big ships built for that market.

I have to admit, curiosity got the better of me and I googled "The Great British Sailaway". Picking jaw up off floor.

Must stop reading funny posts when drinking my morning coffee!! Just spilt it again.

We also usually fly to cruise generally adding in some sort of land tour too. We did, however, do two cruises from Southampton last year as I was unable to fly. Generally we must have been luckier than most of you as fellow guests were generally pleasant!

One exception, however, was a couple we (unfortunately) bumped into in Michael’s Club who did nothing but complain ‘it’s not as good as Cunard.....’ . We avoided them all cruise until waiting to disembark where they told us they had booked another cruise on Celebrity! I couldn’t help but ask why when they preferred Cunard....The response was it was ‘better value for the money’. I can imagine them on their next Cunard cruise telling fellow guests who do not escape quickly enough that ‘it’s not as good as Celebrity.....’!

Hahah !!! On Silhouette right now. 10 days in on a 14 day Med cruise. No moaners , complainers etc . A crazy fun crowed !! Bars still ringing at 1am !! Fab 11pm adults only comedian last night !! 1 hour 15 mins of laughter !! Crammed into Celebrity Central then all filed out into the bars after. Didn’t get back to room till gone 2am . Been like this most nights! Packed Shy Lounge every night till gone 1am . Fantastic house band
