Luggage and Passports - First Timer

This will be our first cruise and we are going to Europe for 10 days at sea and 3 days on land.  Regarding our luggage - how much room do we have to store our clothing and do we keep our suitcases in the room with us?  We are in an oceanview room but it looks so small.  Any tips?  Next, regarding passports - do we take them with us when we go on shore excursions?  What identification will we need and what can we leave on the ship?

Yes, cabins are small but normally there is enough space for you to unpack and put your clothes in the various closets, shelves, and other such places. Suitcases go under the bed. If they are too tall when closed, just leave them open and slide them in. NCL has plenty of storage locations in your cabin.

The suitcase stored under the bed is a great spot for dirty laundry!

Ashore unless you are told otherwise in a particular port, your room key (Sea Pass card) which serves as your onboard ID and charge card is all that is needed to get off and on. A driver’s license or other form of picture id is also suggested. Passports should be stored in the cabin safe.

We always take a copy of the passport with us and leave originals in safe when in Europe.  But if the cruise line says you need to bring the actual passport with you like in Russia, just bring it.  I have a crossbody bag that I use and my friend takes a money belt to store them in.

Plenty of room under the bed

We are in an oceanview room but it looks so small.

For the most part, cabins are the same size. Think of it as your bedroom and the rest of the ship your house

It is an ocean view cabin on NCL Jade.

the 3 of us were in an OV cabin on Jade a couple of months ago. You'll be fine in terms of space.

We don't store our suitcases under the bed, but other people do.

P.S. So, Jade is chugging all the way to Europe, huh? The darn ship broke down on us in Puerto Rico, and it was tough getting home. Happy Travels, OP!

Can't comment specifically on NCL, but on most of our cruises we have been able to store cases under the bed. Although cruise lines no longer advertise the fact, if you ask the cabin steward, he/she may have a locker to store the odd case.

Regarding passports, this is an often hotly debated subject and has many threads. There are valid pros & cons of carrying your passport and also for leaving it in the safe. Basically it is personal preference, so for us that is carrying our passports anytime in a foreign country. Suggest checking out some of the passport threads.

You can probably find videos of that particular class of cabin on YouTube so you can get a sense of size.  Let's look.

It is interesting that the Oceanview videos all are obstructed view rooms.  I've never been on that ship.  But these videos will probably answer you questions.
