Time line for upgrades on Princess Caribbean

We are cruising in 9 weeks and wondered when would we be contacted if an upgrade was available?  What is the usual protocol and charge please.   Thanks

Upsells happen sometime between final payment due date and sailing.  Prices are all over the board depending on the cabin class you have booked and what is still available - we often get offers to move from a mini suite to a full suite for about 1/2 of what we would pay if at full price

Upsells often happen around 6-8 weeks prior to saildate. Prices are whatever the market will bear.  Usually less than what it would have cost to upsell hourself, but not always, so know the differentials before they call.

 

Upgrades are free, much less frequent than they were before Upsells came into being, and you are not necessarily ‘offered’ one...it usually just appears in your booking.  Be advised that the default booking status on Princess is to accept any upgrade, so if you want to be able to keep your current cabin, you should have your booking marked No Upgrade.

As a matter of interest,do upsells occur in UK?  I have heard it from Americans but never British cruisers.

We often do not want to be upgraded, so our reservation is market "No Upgrade". That said in 51 Princess cruises, we have gotten 2 upgrades and one upsell.

If your willing to be upgraded only to the next category like from Balcony to Mini Suite, have your booking marked “Mita Upgrade” which means you’re only interested in the next higher category.

I just received an "upgrade" for a December cruise. It was minimal but free.

Check your cruise personlizer frequently. You may receive an upgrade and not know about it. Princess does not notify regarding upgrades and wait for acceptance. They just come. While every upgrade will indeed be to a higher category cabin, it may not be to a cabin you want. If you check every day and do receive something you don't want, quick action may return you to your original cabin.

This is incorrect.

 

My travel agent forwarded the upgrade to me. So yes, they do notify.
