What is there to do in Nassau?

If we don't want to take any excursions, what is there to do in Nassau and is it safe for 2 women with 4 girls to do?

There’s a straw market to shop for “local” souvenirs (many made in SE Asia) - and a few stores along the Main Street just outside the cruise terminal - pretty safe, but you need to ignore hawkers.

If you are interested, you could take a taxi to Cabbage Beach on Paradise Island - just east of the Atlantis compound.

How old are the girls? Look into Ardastra Gardens, it is a short taxi ride away.  There is a zoo with lots of smaller animals, a flamingo show they pull kids in to participate, bird feedings, etc.  Not large place but cute especially for kids.

Went with my daughter when she was in her late teens, just the 2 of us, no issues at all on our own.

As a "zoo" it's not all that great imho, but it's totally worth going for the Marching Flamingos and to hand-feed the lory birds.   I thought the flamingo show would be tacky, but it was really excellent.   Just check the times for the flamingos and the bird feeding, so you don't miss them.   Take a cab from the pier, tell the driver when to return.

I spent a week at Atlantis last summer, but we did “go into town” twice. Once we visited the straw market (mostly junk and I think you can find these items in many ports), but we did a food tour that was really fun. We got to see most of the main sights and hear the history, as well. https://www.trubahamianfoodtours.com/

Also consider a cab to The Four Seasons (perhaps a lovely lunch) and the cloisters. We were not staying at the resort, but no one gave us any trouble.....don’t be worried about trespassing, as I had read in some reviews before I went. If anyone asks, just tell them you’re killing time before your lunch reservation. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g147416-d4354319-Reviews-The_Cloisters_Nassau-Nassau_New_Providence_Island_Bahamas.html

Take a taxi to Atlantis and purchase the Digs (aquarium) pass.  The aquarium is pretty neat to see, as well as the glass sculptures in the casino.  Take a picture in the giant throne.  Walk over to Marina Village next door to Atlantis, shop a little and look at the big yachts or walk across the street to Margaritaville for lunch.
