Apps necessary for Ocean Medallion

I read in an article that the Medallion can require up to six apps to perform all the functions it is able to do. Does anyone know what they are and where you can get them. I searched the apple store but only found Ocean ready.

Below low is the link to the article

From what I understand the Ocean Ready is the only one that works before you get on the ship.  I didn’t look for any others until after I got my medallion. I than downloaded Ocean Now but can’t use it until next Saturday on our cruise.

I found them in apple apps

OceanReady

OceanCompass

OceanNow

And a couple that appear to be related to casino games.

More apps, passwords and logins. May be easier to stick with cruise card 😳

I have loaded all the apps and it is one userID and one password for all of the apps. Certain apps can only be used once wou are on the ship.

These apps have nothing to do with the use of the medallion.  If you don't want to use these apps you can get your medallion at the port when you check in.  You will  never have to use any app either before the cruise or on the ship.  The medallion will still get you into your cabin, on and off the ship, and for all your purchases exactly like a cruise card.

Hello everyone.  I just returned from Caribbean Princess and can explain all the apps for you.

Like people mentioned,.

1.Ocean Ready is the only app you will need to fill out prior to sailing;  this is the one tied to your ocean medallion charm.  Once you fill out the info needed for this app;  Princess will mail the medallions to you. Normally you won't be able to have the medallions shipped until 60 days or less prior to your cruise.

2. Ocean Now.  this app allows you to order drinks in the bars and pretty much anywhere on the ship.  If you are sitting at the pool and don't feel like getting up to get a drink; you can order from the app,  I only had one bar (club fusion) where I could not order a drink;  everywhere else worked

3. Ocean View;  this app allows you to watch different Princess sponsored videos.  I really didn't use it; because all the videos are on your stateroom tv

4. Ocean Compass:  this is pretty much only used on board your ship.  It actually won't give you access unless you are on the ship.  This app allows you to find your cabin mates.  This feature is pretty cool.  I was in Explorer's lounge listening to a Jazz band and next thing I know; my wife taps me on the shoulder;  I said how did you find me.  She found me using the app.  You click on shipmate and it will tell you where the person is and then chart a route to get you to that person. It keeps you from getting lost.  You can also use this app to find a venue.  Let's say you are eating on deck 15 in buffet; and you want to watch the show in Princess Theater.  You can tap on theater and it will gps you with a route to the theater.

5. There is one more app that only works on the ship and this app is tied to the ships intranet. You can not download it before getting on ship. It is called Ocean Concierge; like I mentioned it works with the intranet wifi on the ship.  This app allows you to order room service, while you can order food and drink from Ocean Now app;  Ocean Concierge has the ability to order room service; you can also check your room folio;  Princess no long has your  on board account  on tv screen; it shows in this app.  You will also have access to the daily patters.  The entire patters is on the app for each day.  It is the best app around.  I ordered room service twice; checked my account, and checked the patters if I didn't feel like going back to cabin to look at paper version. Also all the elevators had the digital screens that have compass routing and the patters too.  So every floor at all the elevators you have this available to you.  It truly makes for a fun vacation.

Hope this helps;  if you have any other questions let me know.

It sounds to me as if you don't have an iPad or a smart phone Princess is leaving you behind.

Thanks AF-1 , great post. I'll be on the Royal in August and it is great to know this stuff, although from reading your post Ocean Ready and Ocean Concierge are the only two I'll use.

We're now about 49 days out from our late April trip on the Royal, which is listed as the third full OM trip for the ship. I entered my personal info on the Ocean Ready app, but after entering our Booking Reference and my details, the app returned a message stating reservation not found. Before I call in to Princess, has anyone else noticed this problem with trying to load their own trips into the Ocean Ready app?

Thanks....

I noticed the same thing. I tried entering my 6 digit Princess booking number into  the field that asks for your "Journey Reservation Number". While I expected that to work I believe a "Journey Reservation Number" may not be equal to our "booking number". Maybe an assigned medallion number that is called "Journey Reservation Number" will come later as we approach the sail date.

I know I sound crass. (you may choose a more harsh word if you like) I think the brains involved believe this will work itself out through attrition. The number of people who do not own or are not proficient in tablet or smart phone technology today is reducing by 150,000 people each day (54 million deaths each year). I for one have no idea how to use an abacus properly even though I was taught how in 3rd grade. Technology just moves on at its own pace as I try to keep up.

I will try an answer everyone's questions.  The Ocean Ready app sometimes takes some time to get it to accept your reservation number.  First,  your sign in or log in must match you same log in to princess.com and your cruise personalizer.  If you are using a different log in; then the app will not accept your reservation number.  I did not know this when I set up the ocean ready app.  I created an entirely new user name and password.  Ended up call the Ocean Medallion desk;  they had to reset my email and password to the same as I used on Princess website.  Second, the app may not work if you are more than 60 days from your cruise.  I know this is frustrating; but since the program is new;  they (meaning Princess Ocean Medallion team), are trying to get medallions out to all the cruises that are within a month of sailing.  The Ocean Medallion team is trying very hard to make this work.  if you are getting frustrated then you can wait till you arrive at your cruise port.  There will be more than 50 Medallion staff there to help you get your medallion and onto the ship.( I sailed out of Fort Lauderdale and there were plenty of staff there to help). Once on the ship there is an Ocean Medallion desk on deck 7 right outside club fusion (this is for Caribbean Princess).  Can not speak for other ships.  Once you are on board with your medallion; the only app you will use is ocean now and ocean concierge.   Finally to all those who want nothing to do with the medallion program.  There will be two sea passes or key cards outside your stateroom or on your desk in stateroom when you get to your stateroom. You can use those and leave the medallions in your cabin.  Your choice.  However; they have a new system for getting on and off ship; they use a scanner for the medallions.  You can use your key card; but you will slow the process down because Princess now has the new scanner set up on deck four when you go ashore for shore excursions.  Please don't get mad at me,  I am just trying to help make your pre cruise a little easier, and also once you get on ship you will have an idea of the medallion program.  They also will have a medallion seminar on day two for any one who may be still confused.

Princess has never had the on board account available on the cabin TV.

It has been available for a couple of years on digital devices such as lap tops and cell phones.

Caribill,  thank you for the clarification.  I have only sailed with Princess twice; all I know is the info is avail on the app.  I may have mistaken the tv folio with Royal Caribbean and NCL; both of whom I have sailed a lot

And the next time we are looking to book a Princess cruise, we'll have to make sure it's on one of their ships WITHOUT the ocean medallion.

Thanks very much for pointing this out, it's probably what is happening with my situation. While most of my profile info on the Ocean Ready app matches exactly what's in my Princess login and Personalizer, the passwords are slightly different, and I can't use the same password as I already use for the Personalizer. The new password rules for the OR app are stricter and require a longer password than I use for the main Princess site, so I'll change it to match and see what happens. We're 48 days out from the sailing so the time limit should not be a factor

You still have the Medallion and the shipboard screens.  Don't quite understand what you think would be a good alternative.

I'm concerned that ordering room service will require an app in the future, waiters at poolside only bringing beverages to those who ordered them on their phones etc.  I have a cell phone and part of the idea of a cruise is to cut that 'electronic leash.'  Next thing, instead of waiting for a MDR table, you needed to order one up through an app.

The Medallion helps Princess keep track of you and your activities, not the other way around.  Can you query your phone for the next Zumba class, or Trivia contest?  I doubt it.  But Princess can keep track of your spending and where you spend your time.  Princess can tell where you are at any given time but can you ask Medallion who is performing in the Wheelhouse or the Piano Bar at any given time?  And I don't mean is the Patter on line - I could carry that around in my back pocket.  Oh, and by the way, when will Princess do away with the printed Patter in favor of a digital one only accessible through your personal electronic device or a public shipboard screen?

I think this is the camel's nose under the tent flap.
