Sail Past the Statue of Liberty?

Likely not.  The pier at Cape Liberty is south of the statue, and although Celebrity captains have been known to sail up and around it, I haven't read of it being done lately.  For current info, ask on the Royal Caribbean board.  EM

Celebrity only has a ship out of NJ in the summer, they have done it every year for the past five years depending on conditions. No reason why they won’t do it this year.

When sailing down the Hudson, I watch cruisers start taking pics of Lady Liberty as the ship approaches, and they get real nice pics of the back of her head.

Trick is to wait until the ship just passes the Statue, so you can view her face.

Ships that depart from Manhattan Cruise Terminal do pass Lady Liberty.

Yes, we did so twice!

Leaving from Manhattan's Pier 90, down the Hudson and past Her

before going under the bridge and out to sea.

  • .  If you aren't lucky enough to pass her, do make an effort to view the beautiful "Tear Drop" Sculpture sent to the USA  from Russia to commemorate 9/11.  It is on the right-hand side of the ship at the end of the little park at Cape Liberty.  Truly touching.
