barb65 Posted March 17, 2019 #1 Share Posted March 17, 2019 We are considering dining in LeBistro on the Escape for our upcoming cruise. Would appreciate any good/bad comments and/or menu suggestions. Thank you in advance for all comments.
trex-de Posted March 17, 2019 #2 Share Posted March 17, 2019 Love the onion soup. DW loves the mushroom soup. Enjoy
Rare BirdTravels Posted March 17, 2019 #3 Share Posted March 17, 2019 Don't care much for the menu at Le Bistro now days. One of our least favorite restaurants.
valleyvillage Posted March 17, 2019 #4 Share Posted March 17, 2019 It is our favorite restaurant. Always either the mushroom soup or the onion soup, depending on the menu. The vegetarian option is a favorite, as well as the medallions of veal. And the scallops are wonderful. As you can see from the first few posts, food is quite subjective. Here's hoping you have a good experience and a great cruise!
FLcruisergrl Posted March 17, 2019 #5 Share Posted March 17, 2019 The onion soup is delicious! I found the shrimp and artichoke entree to be bland, which was disappointing. The Napoleon dessert was the best I had all week.
newmexicoNita Posted March 17, 2019 #6 Share Posted March 17, 2019 agree with everyone on the soups. I love the escargot. What we had last month was the best we have ever had. I was a bit disappointed in the lamb this time: still think it is a must restaurant.
kskelley40 Posted March 17, 2019 #7 Share Posted March 17, 2019 We love Le Bistro so much that on our next cruise on the Breakaway we are eating there 3 times in 14 days. Especially love the Escargot. Don't remember much else about the menu except husband loved the onion soup and the escargot. But do remember that it was our favorite restaurant. Enjoy and happy cruising!
Pete's Girl Posted March 17, 2019 #8 Share Posted March 17, 2019 We LOVED Le Bistro on the Jade and so when we booked the Escape last year, we made reservations. Unfortunately, where Le Bistro is located on the Escape, the strong smoke smell from the casino tends to waft in. It was so strong last year, we left before we even ordered. It was disappointing as we were really looking forward to it, but sitting in an area where the smell of cigarette smoke was so overpowering literally took away our appetite. We'll be on the Escape again this June and we're hoping to give it another try however, we won't be making reservations until we get onboard just in case this hasn't been rectified.
Harratine Posted March 17, 2019 #9 Share Posted March 17, 2019 Le Bistro is good if you enjoy French cuisine. On a BreakAway class ship like the Escape, Le Bistro is located in the middle of 6-7-8 on the first floor. A major ship street/artery goes through 6-7-8 and the casino is directly above the lobby it is on. Teppanyaki waiting is to the left, comedy club across the street (10’ maybe). You will have the option of eating inside the restaurant or street side. This is an extremely noisy area and if you want to hear anything at your table, insist on inside seating. Rare PatandStu Posted March 17, 2019 #10 Share Posted March 17, 2019 Love the Bistro. Our favourites are mushroom soup, scallops & rack of lamb.
drumming cruisers Posted March 17, 2019 #11 Share Posted March 17, 2019 Its our favorite specialty dining. DH likes the French onion soup, and also gets escargot. I like either the French onion soup or the mushroom soup. We both LOVE the filet of beef (mignon) < best on ship. The napoleon for dessert is fantastic!!! Also the profiteroles are delicious! Baronn77 Posted March 17, 2019 #12 Share Posted March 17, 2019 Let Bistro does a great Dover Sole (hopefully still on the menu) I think they use french butter and just enough lemon juice on it. It's almost like a piccatta. Also as others have said the escargot is great there. I think it's more about the good butter tons of garlic and the good bread though. cincicruisers Posted March 18, 2019 #16 Share Posted March 18, 2019 We love Le Bistro. The onion soup was delicious. I am not a dessert person but the profiteroles and the chocolate fondue with fruit were wonderful.

LrgPizza Posted March 18, 2019 #18 Share Posted March 18, 2019 It's the only restaurant on the ship that has no view of the water or outside windows. The tables are squished in so tightly that you could eat off the plate at the table beside you. The food is good, but it's my least favorite restaurant for those reasons. Laszlo Posted March 18, 2019 #19 Share Posted March 18, 2019 Like others have said its one of the best restaurants on NCL. The best Mushroom Soup.... (Outside of Kennett Square, PA)
BaWBarmy Posted March 18, 2019 #20 Share Posted March 18, 2019 I was a little disappointed. We sailed the Escape in September 2018. It was the first time we had used a speciality restaurant since using Le Bistro on the Gem on our first cruise. Although given a choice it seemed the Maitre'D would have preferred us to sit outside. Outside lacks any intimacy and is noisy with people walking past all the time. There was plenty of space inside and it's not as if we hadn't reserved a seat. We sat inside. It seems I'm the only one to have been really disappointed with the Escargot, but I was. The menu was limited IMHO but the food was delicious. The service was very good too. We also ate at La Cucina and I thought that was better.
drcarp4 Posted March 18, 2019 #21 Share Posted March 18, 2019 We have never had a problem with Le Bistro on any Norwegian Ship we have sailed on including Escape. It is our favorite Specialty Restaurant. Another vote for the mushroom soup.

Yes, that is the latest/newest LB menu with the higher, a la carte prices (Jan. 2019). For those using the complimentary Platinum dining voucher, the entree limit has been raised to $25 ... but still limited to 1-1-1 and if you order an extra starter, etc. - the server typically will inform/remind you & charge the lowest priced item and/or ... Looked like the Seafood Bouillabaisse is gone, just as well - the entree has become more of a large bowl of soup, used to be one of our favorite then. Cream of Four Mushroom Soup, Mussels and Five Peppercorn Beef Tenderion are good, IMO. Duck breast is now prepared differently ... Parmentier (shredded meat, instead) & DW isn't so sure anymore. (Note: opinions on fod are highly subjective & personal ... images from the good old days)

The puff pastry seafood medley is gone too. Has anyone tried its replacement, the Coquilles Saint Jacque?
newmexicoNita Posted March 19, 2019 #24 Share Posted March 19, 2019 I am always surprised when I hear someone say, they don't care for Le Bistro. Of course as already mentioned food is very subjective. My only complaint is the tables are pretty close together thus the restaurant does have the same romantic, upscale atmosphere as in years past. Otherwise even though my husbands lamb was not all that great on our last cruise, overall it is the best of the best in my opinion.
mdsgu Posted March 19, 2019 #25 Share Posted March 19, 2019 We enjoy LeBistro. We usually book our NCL cruises with American Express, and they are so nice to always throw in a dinner at LeBistro. The escargots are wonderful, and, on our most recent Breakaway cruise, the filet was better at LB than at Cagney's!
