Regal Princess balcony

We loved our mini on the Regal - deck 14 right under the sea walk.  It had the larger curved balcony, was near the aft stairs and elevator and there was very, very  little noise from deck 15.  We enjoyed watching the people on the sea walk and did not feel that we were being watched.  Loved the size of the mini and the large sofa.  Just wish we could have the same cabin in every cruise.

Agree.  As an example, we had our typical Inside booking on Regal for this June (Baltic).  Being ever observant of things, I noticed quite a price drop (actually we went through three of these I think from original booking) and we could get an Obstructed Balcony for same or less than the Inside.  Turned out there was a larger balcony available on Emerald and those aren't really obstructed, plus you cannot see into them or into the cabin from the Skywalk zones.  We are also on the Starboard side, so no possible noise from Crooners.  So, we are going to try this area for first time and see what we think.

The cabins with larger balconies on Dolphin deck are also great and there you have the advantage of cabins above and below. We had D424 on Majestic and really love the location and the size of the balcony.

Yes... however those are Deluxe and I was going for better price on the "Obstructed".  Above Dolphin deck those cabins are all Minis.  I wanted to try out the Emerald ones and see what we think but I do agree that the Dolphin Deluxes are an option for a larger balcony without going to a Mini.

That's my two cents - I hope it gives you an alternative.

I agree with everything this poster has said, except that being under the Seawalk is a negative.  We thoroughly enjoyed being under the Seawalk.  I think we had more fun watching the walkers (some went fast, because of fear of heights (?), some took their time, but looked out to sea, not at us.  Only a few gave us a glance, but then they moved on.  Unless you like to sunbathe in the nude, this is a great location!

When you need to sit at an angle so your knees don't crowd against the balcony plexiglass - that's not a good size.  I don't know why Princess shrank their balcony size on the Royal Class ships.  Princess doesn't give the balcony dimensions, only total approximate square footage of the whole stateroom including the balcony.

That's what drove us to an inside cabin for our next cruise on the Regal.

This is taken on the Regal, hopefully it helps.  We've had staterooms on both extremes on this ship and enjoyed both but preferred the direct aft facing. Both had very large balconies and the forward facing balcony was not an issue at all when ship was underway.  Just be careful when choosing an aft balcony on this class of ships because only certain floors have partial coverage.

Also the soot deposits that appear every morning. 

Don't wear a pair of white shorts & top to sit out there until the steward cleans up each day.

a couple of years ago Princess upgraded us for free from an inside cabin to an obstructed deluxe cabin on Deck Emerald (8). We loved having a balcony! No matter how small it might have been. We loved it so much that for our Nov 2019 cruise we booked the same obstructed cabin.

We've got a 12-night British Isles booked for next summer.  When I looked at the forward facing balconies, they were listed as obstructed because the balcony could only be used in port.  L101 and L102 are still available.  The picture makes them look great!  I'm not sure I could sell my husband on the very front of the ship though.  And I think I'd be nervous they would tell us we couldn't use the balcony while we were moving.

 

Right now we're in B614.  It looks like it would be ~$80 to move to D407.  Do you guys think that's a change worth making?  I think we'd save money if we moved to the front of the ship.  Should we move there?  There are 3 of us in the cabin.

We were in M103 on a Med cruise and the only reason it was listed as obstructed was because it had steel as opposed to glass at the balcony railing. Also we weren’t restricted to use it only while in port. We used it while the ship was underway as long as the wind didn’t prevent us from being out on the balcony. We loved the cabin and location, wouldn’t hesitate to book it again.

We had E106 & didn't like all the constant walking to go everywhere.

Other than that the balcony was OK. At least you could move around compared to a standard balcony.

We like to walk so it didn't bother us in the least. Plus, it made us feel less guilty after all the gluttony we participated in during the cruise.

Ah, you're right.  The obstruction is because it's not glass on the bottom part.  This is what it says for those cabins:

" PART OBSTRUCTED VIEWNON-GLASS BALC RAIL BALCONY ACCESS WHEN IN PORT ONLY "

 

I think I'll call my TA and price those couple of rooms.  I've got a casino offer on my room now and have no idea how that made the fare lower or if it's only for certain categories.  Thanks for the help!

You're welcome. The part of the description where it says, "BALCONY ACCESS WHEN IN PORT ONLY" is puzzling because the balcony slider was never locked. The only thing that prevented us from using the balcony was if it was really windy. Also, you had to keep the balcony light off at night so it wouldn't affect the bridge. Our fondest memory of that cabin was during the sail into Venice, the view from that balcony was spectacular.

I have to disagree about the mini-suites under the Seawalk.  Very few people walk across the Seawalk, especially in the evenings.  If you pay attention to the walkers, most look out at the ocean/sea.  Very few linger to look at the balconies and the further you are from the Seawalk, the less they can see.  I actually found it interesting to sit on my balcony and observe the observers!

Can you comment on the type of obstruction on your Emerald deck balcony on the Regal to Baltic. I am wondering if those will be the same on the Sky Princess - E424 obstructed angled balcony. Thanks

On our Royal Princess sailing, we were in a mini suite and the balcony was tiny.

 

We're set for a CC mini-suite on the Enchanted inaugural sailing next july with one of the larger balconies due to the design curve. Hopefully it's a bit more comfortable.

 

The Grand class balconies are massive. We just got off the crown recently and the balcony was extra large.

No obstruction from inside room.  No obstruction when sitting balcony and looking out.  No obstruction when at rail and looking out.  If you look aft, you can see the beginning of the lifeboats and tenders in the near distance.  Looking down, you can see the Promenade deck area, but it was generally pretty quiet there as it is outside the shops on starboard side.  Looking forward, again there might have been something small in the distance.  Like many others posting here, we didn't think there was any significant obstruction and most of the time, there is zero impact.  It was great to have space on the balcony even if we did not use it much.  All of Royal, Regal, Majestic, Sky, Enchanted are going to be the same.  I don't see why Sky/Enchanted would be different.  I can attest that Majestic is the same as Regal (we checked that out before sailing on Regal).

Thanks Steelers36 for that info. From the deck plan it looks like the lifeboats are away from mid section.
