Three ships at Coco Cay?

Miserable Day at CoCo Cay!

I'm hoping that the three would never happen. I think two Oasis class at the same time would be interesting to see. I cannot see that it would not feel crowded. I guess there is always the casino at that point. 

 

As of right now, both my upcoming sailings that include Coco seem to be the only ship in port.

Be careful with that assumption if it is a sailing soon that might have a ship there not originally anticipated when schedules released.  Mariner was showing as the only ship but we woke up to Enchantment next door.  

 

I will say, that at first I was concerned about the crowding b/c so much of the island I'd thought of as not open yet, but it wasn't a problem.  As long as the staff from each ship get off and man all the bars and such, maybe it won't be too bad.  People can spread out but one feels the affects of crowds if drink order takes a long time or there are lines for the bathroom or to rent a mat etc.

 

I'd think you'd have a much better chance of getting a sale on a CC excursion or cabana with only one ship docked.  RCCL won't have to discount as much with a larger pax load.

Don't give them any ideas!  Next thing we know, they'll be charging extra for cruises in which there is only one ship docked there at a time.  "Exclusive Perfect Day"

@ $37.99 maybe they will modify the key to include a special food and drink line, and private restrooms on Coco Cay.

I found this site because I’m sailing Harmony Feb 2020...but I don’t see Allure and Harmony together?

My only real "concern" about having 3 ships in the Coco Cay port at the same time is simply the potential "crowding effect".

 

While there are claims that the island property can handle over 10K people at any given time...it hasn't been done yet to capture actual results/experiences. I have seen Labadee with 2 larger ships at the same time...and the results were not very pretty in terms of traffic, lines for food, and other experiences.

I was looking at the rccl site for Harmony, leaving on the same day out of Orlando on 2/23 and going to CoCo Cay the next day.  I rechecked this morning and when you click on that sailing for Harmony, a cruise itinerary change pops up with a new itinerary putting them into CC on day 7 instead of 2.  I feel much better now about my stop at CC!

That's good. I can see 2 of the smaller ships but 2 Oasis class ships at the same time would be a lot for sure😊 So far for my 2 cruises coming up this year my ship will be the only one in port.

Our January 10th arrival on Symphony has us there alone for now.  I can say one thing.  The cabana prices will definitely stay high with more ships coming in at once.  Those "private" spots to keep a group together will be prime real estate.  I really think once the water park really kicks in full bore and the reviews start coming in those water park cabanas will sell out quickly.

He said the capacity is 10,000.  That makes me think they won't ever do two Oasis class ships at once, but perhaps an Oasis and Liberty class?  At the same time, when they're talking three ships I really do think they mean three smaller ships.

 

Honestly, I'll take a busy day at CoCo Cay over a busy day at Nassau.  Not to mention it seems like the schedules are working out better for Royal.  On our Symphony cruise this last January we got in to Nassau at like 10:30 and left at 4:30 if memory serves.  We really felt limited in what we could do with so little time.  Compare that to the arrival/departure times I'm seeing for January 2020, which are all arriving at 8:00 and leaving around 4:00 or 5:00.  I'll gladly take a relaxing morning eating breakfast on the beach (either get it on the island, or bring it off the ship) vs. rushing to make sure we're off the ship as soon as the gangway opens because we barely have enough time in port.

I throughly enjoyed my first (and maybe only) time in a Coco Cay cabana but it didn't feel very private.  Cabanas very near each other and lots of suite guests on loungers next to us.

 

Private was the old days were only a subset of the pax even wanted to tender in (and maybe on a ship like Majesty) and you could walk the nature trail out to an area with a couple lounge chairs and umbrella and place to yourselves.  Notable drawback, no bar.

The purpose of a cabana is to have a nice "base camp" for activities rather than chair-availability-roulette at a beach or water-park location. In these places with thousands of fellow passengers, very little is "private" anyway...so those would be unrealistic expectations.

 

The cabanas at the Coco Cay Thrill Waterpark are "open" on the sides, but feature both a canopy top and relaxing seating. There are other configurations at the Chill Island cabanas and other places.

 

Having a cabana is quite the treat. Most folks aren't going to pay the cost of one, but those who do welcome what they provide (the free bottled water & towels, as well as cabana attendant are especially nice).
