Use of Royal APP on Anthem??

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Recent Anthem cruisers: I've heard that Anthem is very tech-savvy and that people used the Royal App for stuff. Is this true? If so, what should I use the app for specifically on the ship?

Any tips are appreciated!

Anthem uses the Royal IQ app, not RCI app. Scheduling is one of its uses.

Should be able to refer to the app for all the daily events and not carry around the daily compass sheet (or take a picture of it as I did on NCL.)  Also if you pay the $8 fee for messaging you can message other guests that also paid the fee.  Like all other ship messaging, you have to check it often because it does not have notifications to tell you when someone sends a message.

Just off the Anthem...Royal IQ is used.  It has your daily Cruise Compass on it and your daily calendar (reservations, excursions, dining, etc).  It worked fine.  What didn't work that great was the $7.95 talk/text package.  The call feature never worked for us and the text, as stated above, needs to be checked frequently as it does not "ding" or notify you when a text comes through.  Make sure you download the Royal IQ app PRIOR to getting on the ship!

The ships which use the Royal IQ app allow free texting without a VOOM package or the texting option within the app.

The only way you can text through the app is to buy the $7.95 package per device, unless you have the VOOM package.  Just having the Royal IQ app does not allow you to text.

If you have an iPhone, you can text on Anthem, without being charged by your cell phone provider and without purchasing Voom.  You can purchase the text feature for Royal IQ, but that is not necessary due to a "hole" in the firewall.  Just make sure your phone is in airplane mode and you are connected to Royal wifi.

It kinda does - as mentioned above, the “regular” Q class and Harmony (ships that use or used to use the app) have a “feature” where iMessage and other internet traffic gets through to devices simply by being connected to the ship’ WiFi.

Was the $8 fee per day or for the entire cruise?

FYI:  This is partially true....I could text only those who had iphones.  If you try to text anyone that does not have an iphone, it will not deliver....at least this was my experience and several others onboard said the same thing.....

This is correct as iMessage functions through the firewall hole, but regular SMS/MMS texting does not.

If you are doing cross platform texting (iPhone->Android) use a cross platform solution on both phones, like Google Voice or Messenger.
