Cheap 1 day cruise from Seattle

Have you ever thought, in a million years, that you could get a 1 day from Seattle to Vancouver for $39 CDN?????  You can't get a hotel that cheap!!

That is amazing. Haven't seen a one-day wonder that low!   In USD it is even better:  38 + 40 tax!

 

I wonder how much transportation is?

It may be cheap, but I wouldn't be interested.  Seven-day and 14-day cruises aren't enough time for me anymore, so I'd be a very unhappy passenger if I had to get off after one day.  Not even worth packing a suitcase, or rather an overnight bag!  Are you considering booking?

For me personally this is not my style at all. Have sailed out of Vancouver on long cruises that had one of these one day segments first.  A toss up between a casino cruise and a circus.  Not HAL's normal style at all.

 

I do know an older couple who loved their one day cruise on Princess.

I'm thinking of doing a weekend in Seattle.  Live on Vancouver Island, and could get to Vancouver cheap enough.....Train down, hotel overnight and cruise back....If nothing else, I have never been on the Amsterdam and it certainly would be an opportunity to see what I think of it....

Every time anyone brings up 1 or 2-day cruises, you'll get the usual "not worth it".  I notice these responses are usually from posters who don't live within a few minutes of the Seattle and Vancouver ports.  Of course it isn't worth it when you live far away. 

 

If you plan to extend your time with a stay in Seattle IMO it is worth it, especially at that price.  Personally I prefer longer cruises too (leaving soon for 65 days in the Med), but those of us who live here can do this easily, so why not. It's a nice little get-away between longer cruises.

As I understand, it is the 1st day of a 35 day Incan Empire trip. Starts in Seattle, goes to Vancouver, then heads south.

I did look at the train south...it's $57 CDN...not sure what it would be for US.

HAL used to sail from Norfolk, a 20-minute drive from my home.  If they offered a one-day from Norfolk, I wouldn't be interested; however, I can see how some people would love this opportunity to either sample a city or to try a new cruise line without investing $$$$.  Even seven-day cruises are becoming too short for me, as I mentioned earlier.  Ideally, I'd love to have 6 or 7 months on a ship per year, but the bank account won't allow it.

You are correct.Then on Sept 30 there are people embarking in San Diego.

I think it’s a great way to explore the Amsterdam.

I also would have thought it would be less of a "party" trip as it leaves Seattle on a Monday...

I've heard of these one day cruises.  Also heard the above but for what leerathje wants to do it sounds like it would be perfect.  Or for anyone that wants to check out a ship they haven't been on.  We're getting on in Seattle for the Incan cruise...will be interesting to see how this plays out!

Wow. OK, thanks for your opinion.  Why do you say that? Do the crew not get paid for this day? Or receive tips?  Do they clean the room differently than they would every other day?

It happened to me once after a long trip, we had a thousand people boarding in Vancouver to go to Seattle, they turned half the ship upside down, ruined a couple of rooms, I don't think you want that, Leeraartje...

I would do it.  It’s a great way to check out a ship and an easy, hassle-free, way to get to Vancouver.  Especially if you’re changing ships to go on to Alaska.  I did the 4-day San Diego to Vancouver last year to get to my Aunt’s committal and celebration of life.  It was a peaceful way to travel, reflect on life, and write my eulogy.  There was no rowdiness and everyone I met was lovely.  Much nicer than a flying cylinder with all the unhappiness that comes with that mode of travel.

As I am sure you are probably aware, that is the double occupancy rate and when you also add in the taxes and gratuities for the one night, it is actually a little over $200 for a few hours on the ship.  Still not a horrible price, depending on when you can board.  If you aren't allowed to get onto the ship until noon and then go to the muster drill around 3:30 and have to be out of your room by 8 AM the following morning, it doesn't sound quite as attractive to me.  I've done 2 and 3 night sailings before and it's just not for me.  No chance to settle in and the lines for dining are crazy and the entertainment is rather lacking.  

If you are just going for a nice dinner and a show, still not a bad deal but, just not a relaxing way to vacation IMO.  If you are cruising to bump up your tier status to the next level ... then it is actually a pretty good deal.

It is actually a complete turn over of all the cabins ... and a lot more involved than how they clean the rooms during a longer cruise.

Very good point ... 

For some, this is a good deal but it is not even close to the $39 as it appears on the website.

Hi, I just checked Bolt Bus, Vancouver to Seattle $23.00CDN.  I’m all out of vacation time, my usual cruises are 21-36 days, other wise I would do this cruise, spend the day and night pre-cruise in Seattle, love Seattle, then sail home.
