they cannot begin until everyone is off the ship.

What? the second you are out of your cabin it is being cleaned. Can you imagine if they had to wait, the ship would be ready by 2pm

The second we left the cabin, the entire hallway from front to back, was elbow to elbow jammed packed. There was not enough room for the room stewards to move their racks of linens. They HAD to let the hallway clear out before they could start cleaning. Is that not the norm?

They need to clean all the rooms so one straggler isn’t going to hold up the ship UNLESS they stay so long that all the other rooms are cleaned and they are still there. If the steward has 12 rooms to clean, cleaning yours last isn’t preventing others from boarding as long as you are out when the steward is done with the 11th.

My guess is if along with your request to linger a little longer you provide the steward with a portrait of Grant or Franklin the request will be cheerfully accommodated.

Not only ill advised, you can NOT stay in your cabin after 8:30 or they will get security. I'll also find this suggestion quite rude and selfish.

How is this different than FTTF except that rather than a billion dollar corporation profiting by make a special accommodation, the hardworking steward benefits.

Regardless of the cruise line, we always go to the MDR for breakfast on the morning of departure.  It is much more relaxing than fighting the crowds in the buffet with bags.  Unless a flight is involved, we usually get off the ship around 10 am and usually there are still a few people still on board.

I concur. We stayed in MDR until about 9:30 before making our way out. Luggage piled everywhere - wasn't an issue. It was a nice calm breakfast before we headed out. I also think most hotels will hold your luggage until your room is ready and you can start exploring, sight seeing, or have lunch nearby.

What does staying your cabin too long have to do with FTTF?

This is also what we do, put our luggage out the night before, then go to the MDR for a nice relaxing breakfast.  Then head off the ship.

What if someone with FTTF or a Platinum or Diamond has the straggler's room on the next cruise?  Now the cabins that need to be ready first are the last the steward can clean.

Hi

For the OP.

Since it seems you are resigned to not lingering and now are going to be one of the first off the ship, why don't you just pay for the extra night and head straight to your hotel. They will check you in whatever time you arrive if you pay the extra night.

Ed brings up a point. People pay extra for FTTF and many hotels will let you have a late check out. This is certainly something that Carnival (or any cruise line) could consider, but not in the cabin. Since it is imperative that everyone is off the ship as soon as possible it would be hard to imagine what kind of a "product" people would be willing to pay for.

Thanks for this tip.  I never knew you could do this.

We are always one of the last off the ship.   We carry our own luggage, but are very good at packing and only bring 1 suitcase per person.    We are out of the room by 8:30 and grab breakfast at Lido buffet.   We park ourselves on the deck above lido and just relax until last call.

No lines, no dodging people or bags, simple walk right off.

We also always stay somewhere a day or 2 after the cruise before flying home.

How long is the wait through customs when you do this?

Zero wait time....we walk right up and nobody is in line.   It is so super simple from the time we leave the lido deck to the sidewalk outside the terminal...like less than 5 minutes total.

If there are no lines, it means people are having to wait for you so boarding can begin. You should have been off sooner.

Many people treat last call as their first notice to think about getting ready to depart.

Nope, nobody is waiting on us  LOL...there are always some others on the deck also, and some we pass lounging at the debark area before we get off...we leave when they say all luggage tags have been called, everyone else should make their way down and debark.

We are good.     You guys can all fight the crowds before that, not us.

We used to put our bags out at night, get off at the zone tag call and stand there like cattle every step of the way...people being rude, pushing, sniping at each other because they are irritated.  No thank you.   We learned to pack better, take our own luggage and relax.

Even though we are Platinum, we also never show up to board until at least 1230pm to avoid those same crowds.    Again, we walk right through the process and get right on.  Literally less than a 10 min process from walking in the terminal to being on the ship.  Cant get any better than that.
