Rare mizLORInj Posted October 4, 2019 #1 Share Posted October 4, 2019 Hi all. Have not been on a Princess ship since 2011 so those ships (Emerald, Crown and Caribbean) had the BA category on the Caribe deck with the nice large balcony. Looking at Regal Princess for the winter. Besides the aft-facing D4, what other balcony categories have the larger balconies, if any? I want a lounger on the balcony. Thanks in advance. oh, is the pizza on Princess still the best at sea? It was on all our cruises in the 00s!
Pam in CA Posted October 4, 2019 #2 Share Posted October 4, 2019 No lounger on the balcony unless you book a full suite. The Royal class ships are not “tiered” like other ships. The sides are straight down Slightly larger balconies are the angled balconies as shown on the deck plans.
Rare mizLORInj Posted October 4, 2019 Author #3 Share Posted October 4, 2019 ok, thanks. They don't put loungers on those aft-facing balconies? Seems there would be space. So the suites that are at the aft corners, are any "better" than others? Don't care so much about the cabin itself--probably all the same--balcony space is what I'm after here. 😃

Marina and Riviera also have larger balconies but you can look down on those from Lido above. This is Royal, but a Regal is pretty much the same (except for the aft pool they added to Regal).

skynight Posted October 4, 2019 #6 Share Posted October 4, 2019 Almost all side facing cabins have balconies that are approximately 9' x 4'. Just large enough for two chairs and a small table. There are no decks, like grand class ships, that have larger balconies. If you look at the deck plans you can notice some larger balconies on decks 8, 15 & 16 forward. You will also notice some angled balconies mid ship on all decks and forward on deck 16.

Rare Lady Arwen Posted October 4, 2019 #9 Share Posted October 4, 2019 We always book Lido or Marina deck forward cabins on either Royal or Regal. These are Deluxe (with small sofa) Obstructed Balcony Cabins with HUGE balconies. The obstruction is that the balcony railing is metal instead of plexiglass. Other than that, the views are amazing........basically the same as the bridge! The best thing is that these cabins are priced lower than a standard balcony (tiny) with no sofa. For us the best cabins on the ship for the price.

The wind can be an issue at sea. However, you can sit closer to the sheltered area in front of the sliding door. We did this often. On calmer days, you can use the entire balcony. Yes, there is a sign posted on the door, but I can assure you no one monitors this. Just use common sense. My favourite cabins on Royal class ships.
Bruin Steve Posted October 19, 2019 #13 Share Posted October 19, 2019 We’ve booked E108 for our upcoming Royal cruise...Those first few balconies are Premium...which means the cabin itself is larger than standard and has a sitting area with a small sofa...and the balconies are also larger...with 109 and 110 the largest, 107 and 108 slightly smaller...and so on...What makes them “obstructed” is only that the railing is solid rather than plexiglass...but the view over the railing is completely unobstructed. They aren’t really “front-facing”...and the side walls really protect them from winds, except maybe right at the rail. The only other drawback...for some...is that they are so far forward. The balcony furniture has two chairs...AND two ottomans, making them similar to lounges... However, since they are deemed obstructed, they sell for a much lower price,
flamomo Posted October 19, 2019 #14 Share Posted October 19, 2019 Can anyone explain what is the difference between a regular balcony cabin and a deluxe balcony cabin on the Marina deck on the Regal? Or even have any photos of a deluxe balcony cabin and/or it's balcony? We have an aftward deluxe booked for a cruise in February, and this will be our first time on one of the Royal class ships, though I've cruised many times on Grand class ships and the Pacific Princess. framer Posted October 19, 2019 #15 Share Posted October 19, 2019 M107 and M108 has the largest insane size balcony anywhere. You have private access to the roof of the bridge. It has two wooden loungers two chairs and a table. In the photo they are stored under the angle. L107 and L108 has a large wrap around balcony with loungers, chairs and table. I prefer L107 or L108 because the balcony it better wind protected, totally private and has a large overhang on the side that allows use in light rain. The rooms themselves are set up more like a suite with two rooms. Rooms are larger than standard mini's. Wind can be iffy; however, when the winds from the rear it gets nice sitting on the balcony. The bad news is these cabins are sell early. Have a good cruise, framer

Wishing on a star Posted October 19, 2019 #17 Share Posted October 19, 2019 Exactly. Deluxe refers to the size of the cabin, slightly larger with a small loveseat. NOT the size of the balcony. The larger balconies will be the cabins of any category that are facing Aft, are on the bump out, or others like far forward on deck 8 that have larger balconies due to the logistics of the ship design. flamomo Posted October 21, 2019 #18 Share Posted October 21, 2019 Thanks. That's good to know. The loveseat will be welcome.
