Is there any way of putting some sort of different cushioning in your wheelchair? Maybe gel pads that could help reduce the effects of any ship motion?

Got all sorts of jell cushions, I am looking into some special wheels that cost a small fortune but in effect the spokes are shock absorbers.

The biggest thing for us was that it really bought home that unless something drastic happens I am not sure how many more cruises are in our future, so many vertebrae (and other joints) have no cushioning left between them, and a couple of fractures that will probably never fully heel meant, that even with the wheelchair the pain at times simply reduced me to tears and I could feel grating of bone on bone with every move of the ship.

we have a few more booked and paid for that we will probably have a shot at, and see if things go any better.

One positive was the concern and consideration shown by a few of the crew, the manager of Alfredo’s sought me out a few times to check how I was and the crew at Wake View went out of their way to ensure that a table was accessible and my Diet Coke was deliver to my hand even when I insisted I was fine to come to the bar. Great service all round, and I don’t think I visited the buffet without numerous staff asking if they could help in any way, including carrying my plate etc.

Sorry to hear your body isn't coping well. Hopefully you will find a solution. Great to hear the service was excellent.

Sounds very interesting. I am sure they will work something out.

They email almost weekly, I think the other girl is only first year into her PhD so plenty of time yet. May even mean a trip down your way, I think she is at ANU.

Sorry to hear that your back issues are worsening Mr GUT. I hope you don’t have to cancel any cruises but only you know if your body can cope. I can understand Ames GUT’s concern though. We haven’t cruised this year due to my husband’s hip and spinal issues. He will have a hip replacement early in the new year and his spinal surgeon believes that will help with his back as he should be be able to walk  more naturally.

We have NZ booked and paid for net month Mrs Gut wants to cancel, I say up the opiates and give it a go, then we have a cruise to nowhere at Easter paid for including the kids, it’s only three nights so should be able to survive that long, then we will have to consider what to do about Tasmania next year and our Circumnavigation of Aus NZ in 2021. But I will see if the medical men have any suggestions.

You wouldn’t think the slight sway would hurt as much as it did.

welcome home. Very pleased it was an enjoyable trip.

if it would help, I have an interesting selection of special potions in my cupboard.

Hi Leigh, I hope that the hip replacement is a great outcome for Mr Possum.

Probably already tried most of them,  maxed out on Oxy at 640, Fentanyl patch maximum dose x two patches with Oxy norm as backup and a Ketamine infusion where doctor insisted pain specialist attending person to confirm the dose every time the drip was changed as he had never seen one so high, but nothing really worked they decided my opiate receptors are probably shot.

Mr Gut, glad you and the missus enjoyed your short sojourn on Majestic. Good luck with your pain management and...1332204061_Santa-dance1_www.free-avatars.com(1).gif.9370a3df28e60095ff2443f5565d6079.gif

Thank you Carole, I can’t say it will be easy if we do decide to stop cruising, road trips are almost totally out and Mrs Gut isn’t allowed fly. The only positive I can see is I won’t need to be away from Maxy.

But we haven’t made a final decision yet maybe I was just having a really bad week and next cruise will be fine, we’ll I hope that is the result.
