mom4mom Posted December 16, 2019 #1 Share Posted December 16, 2019 We are sailing on the Oosterdam next May with a stop in Victoria. Is there a shuttle from the ship to downtown or nearby transportation?
Diver2014 Posted December 16, 2019 #2 Share Posted December 16, 2019 We were on the Oosterdam in September and yes, free shuttle buses were provided. They deposited passengers in front of the Empress Hotel. They only problem was, there were several ships in port at the same time thus large crowds waiting since the shuttles are not specific to any one cruise line. dockman Posted December 16, 2019 #3 Share Posted December 16, 2019 Can't remember if we had free shuttle or not but i do remember it was a pleasant walk along the shoreline from where we docked into town.....assuming nice weather. Several nice benches to pause and enjoy the views.
catl331 Posted December 16, 2019 #4 Share Posted December 16, 2019 It has been many years since we were there, but I recall seeing several pedi-cabs.

I was also there in September on Eurodam. The shuttles were not free for us. They were about $15 (can't remember exact price) per person. We had to purchase the tickets at the shore excursions deck. That said, no one checked for our tickets getting on the shuttle both at the ship and from the downtown pickup point, so it wouldn't surprise me if folks who were none-the-wiser just hopped on thinking they were free. CruiserBruce Posted December 16, 2019 #6 Share Posted December 16, 2019 There were shuttles when we were there on Amsterdam in June. I don't recall if there was a fee.
Lido deck main Posted December 16, 2019 #7 Share Posted December 16, 2019 Going from Ogden Point to downtown Empress Hotel is less than two kilometres walk, which is just over 1 mile. It takes a leisurely 25 minute walk, walking through nice neighbourhoods. If you are not mobility challenged in anyway it’s a nice walk. Google map directions for the shorter walk. You come in behind the Parliament Buildings and The Royal B.C. Museum.

Along the south bank past the ferry to WA state. To the Empress Hotel and the Convention Center. There's a public bus service from the area of the Empress Hotel back to Ogden Point and the Cruise Terminal.
Rare Copper10-8 Posted December 16, 2019 #9 Share Posted December 16, 2019 There will be shuttles in front of the Ogden Point terminal building in Victoria and they will transport you for $15 Canadian to a stop on Government Street, just on the other side of Broughton Street right smack in front of a really good ice cream establishment by the name of "Oh Gelato" (imagine that ) in downtown Victoria! The buses used to stop on a side street of the Empress (Humboldt Street) but that was discontinued about three/four years ago. Enjoy beautiful and always nice Victoria, B.C.!

It was a lovely walk with beautiful scenery, flowers and neighbourhoods on the way 😄

As a Canadian I found it cheaper and easier to grab a cab (DH can't walk far, but it is a quite easy walk to the downtown).
WisRiver Posted December 16, 2019 #12 Share Posted December 16, 2019 We were a group of four in Victoria earlier this summer on the Eurodam. There was a paid shuttle with a line to buy tickets. We took a cab to the inner harbor, $10 US. On the way back we had obtained some CAD, and paid $10 CAD for our return. While it is a 30 minute walk to the inner harbor, the cabs were quick and convenient.
whitford Posted December 16, 2019 #13 Share Posted December 16, 2019 Nice walk do it unless it is raining and then just stay at the Empress.
sfaaa Posted December 16, 2019 #14 Share Posted December 16, 2019 A day pass on metro bus only costs C$5. Ride all day. Bus stops right in front of cruise terminal parking lot.
Rare *Miss G* Posted December 16, 2019 #15 Share Posted December 16, 2019 Another option is a 10 minute walk to Fisherman’s Wharf and then jump on the Water Taxi.
