Comfy chair in Balcony Cabin

B4 is a standard balcony room in a premium location. All standard balcony rooms begin with "B". All standard balcony rooms fleetwide have had the barrel chair removed. They still have a desk chair. 

 

Delexe balcony rooms have a loveseat and a desk chair, but no barrel chair.  Only the Royal class ships have deluxe balcony rooms.  Deluxe balcony room codes begin with "D".

I will start off with acknowledging that the Princess info is not always correct 🤔however, according to their website a B4 on the Caribbean Princess is a Premium Balcony stateroom (which happen to be in a premium location also). See attached screen capture. There is also a reasonably recent picture of a B4 on one of the deck plan websites. If my information is wrong I apologize.

That is correct- a B4 room is a Premium Balcony.

Yahbut - a Premium Balcony is one with a larger balcony or location - the inside layout is the same size.  Example are the double-size Caribe balconies on the Grand class ships. 

 

So, not clear to me that a Premium Balcony would have a chair versus a Deluxe Balcony which is a slightly larger cabin size and has a love-seat size small sofa.

We were on the Island Princess in December.  There was no barrel chair, which I expected.  We did not miss it at all as I am not sure either of us ever used it; it always took up too much space.

 

I love, love, love the big 'walk-in' closet on Princess, but the teeny shower is pretty bad.  I'm a small person and I find it difficult.  I have no idea how someone of any size uses it.

 

Another issue is the terribly uncomfortable balcony chairs.  Balconies need reclining lioungers!

The photos/diagrams on the Princess website are not current and are for "representational purposes only", and while a photo on a website may be "recently" uploaded, there is no knowing when the photo was taken, unless the person submitting it listed the sailing date.  Additionally, even a recently taken photo that has a barrel chair in it could be a case of the cabin occupants requesting, and being provided with, one from a cabin steward.

 

That said - fleetwide they have been removed

A Premium balcony is a standard balcony room with a preferred location, or larger balcony, hence the designation as "premium".  It is the same interior size/layout/furnishings as any other standard balcony room.  Standard balcony rooms no longer have the barrel chairs.  Some cruisers report being able to procure one on request from their cabin steward

Like I mentioned, the info from Princess is not always accurate. Thanks for the clarification. I still hope we can get a second chair (any type) for our upcoming cruise. Not looking forward to dragging the balcony chair in & out of the cabin, we're getting to old for that😉.

It's just a matter of time. They are just weaning the passenger off of the idea by supplying a few  chairs here and there.  They really need to redesign the staterooms. They have been the same configuration since I first sailed on the Crown Princess in 1991. Princess wasn't even a CCL brand back then. It was P&O.

"Big Walk In Closets?"  Are you joking?  It is an open space with a closet rod......I would hardly call it a walk in closet.....also Princess got rid of loungers on most balconies "for safety reasons" many years ago.....of course you can have everything you want if you book a suite!!!

The changing area is just a waste of space. I also hate walking in the room and first viewing an open closet. Been married almost 30 years and my wife and I get dressed in front of each other in our bedroom at home. No need to hide on a cruise. I have been on other lines in an ocean view and balcony rooms where the shower held 2 people. What we lack in height we make up for in width so the showers on Celebrity and Royal Caribbean are a nice size. We were also able to maneuver around the room without bumping into a chair or table. You have to book a mini suite or higher on the Grand class ships and a deluxe balcony on the Royal class ships just to get an extra chair.

Well, I realize the closet is not a true walk-in, but still so much easier to use than the closets on most ships, which are smaller, usually hard to access because they are very close to the bed and unhandy with the sliding doors.  It's not about having 'dressing' room to me, but about easy access to clothing and more room.

 

Also the shelves in that area are nice.  Unlike the shelves on newer Celebrity ships which I can't reach unless I stand on the bed.

 

But, it does come at the cost of a smaller bedroom area and much smaller bath, especially the shower.  So it's kind of a trade-off.  Princess really needs to address the shower situation, but that would mean redesigning the rooms.  

 

I've noticed in cabins with sofas that we mostly use it to lay things on.  But I still prefer having a sofa.

Yep, the business model is to cut back as far as possible, price the cruise as low as possible, and then nickel and dime the passengers to bring the revenue back up to where was before the cutback/upsell program started.

 

New cruisers don't miss the cutbacks and probably think the upsells and hard sells are just part of the cruise experience.  It ain't the Love Boat anymore.

I am the flop down on the bed type when I am relaxing in the cabin. Therefore I won't miss the chair.

I sent a letter to Princess asking for a chair in my balcony room. My wife has orthopedic problems and ir is easier for her with a chair that has arms. this is the letter they sent back.

That's what we will be doing too.....it was a ridiculous decision by Princess.....they should have suggested if you do not need a barrel chair in your room they will be happy to remove it for the remainder of the cruise....I am sure a lot more passengers prefer it in their cabin then the ones who do not.....no matter what it was a decision that was obviously not customer friendly.

While this letter is polite and seemingly accommodating ... it's ludicrous that Princess is even suggesting that pax shop the ship to furnish their cabin ... picture this:  oh, that settee would be wonderful in our cabin and, that lovely table would be perfect ... it's a cruise vacation, not an outing to IKEA
