Caullkhead Posted January 9 #54276 Share Posted January 9 Morning, talking of cholesterol, off for my annual (well last one was 4 years ago!! ) blood test & mot in a bit, have been taking blood pressure readings all week as since my last asthma review this time last year it’s always been high when they’ve taken it, but if I sit quietly at home it’s much lower. I’ve got to walk up a very steep hill, hopefully it’s not icy or I’ll be sliding back home very inelegantly. Also hoping I’ve got enough puff to get up it of course! Keep warm every one.

I've not looked at the excursions for a while (though have booked a few) but got the impression the ship would dock at the Brooklyn berth because of the HoHo bus details. How do you know it's Manhattan Phil? I have been keeping tabs on a couple of port schedule sites where she is listed for Manhattan, of course it could be an error as Princess usually uses Brooklyn but that is a home port for them. Manhattan would be far better as you can actually walk into the city and it is only just over a mile from Central park. There is a role call for this cruise in the Princess role calls plus a well established faceache group, let me know if you want a link. 3
Josy1953 Posted January 9 #54278 Share Posted January 9 2° here when I went out to take the little darlings to school but no ice so not too bad. I am now waiting for my new tumble drier to be delivered sometime this morning, they have phoned to say that they are on the way. I had planned to go to get my hair trimmed but the traffic when I went to the pharmacy made me think twice about trying to park if I went into town. I will go tomorrow when it will be pensioners day so I'll have a 50% reduction and hear about all of the aches and pains and problems of growing old.
yorkshirephil Posted January 9 #54279 Share Posted January 9 It is a crisp dry morning here, much better now the rain seems to have kept away for a few days and things are drying out. Hope Frank is bearing up @Adawn47 and he gets a better idea of what is going on, and @Josy1953 is getting a 50% reduction in price and not half a hair cut. In the words of Kate Bush I hope Caulkhead is running up that hill, even with the inhaler at the ready.
Red Ray Posted January 9 #54280 Share Posted January 9 Saw a few very glum looking brass monkeys looking for something this morning on my way to work here in the frozen north. 5

I was a bit bored and decided to Google, look up ..Err put politely some poor chimps looking for parts of their anatomy that had fallen off their body . I am now a bit wiser after looking up the brass monkey and cold origins .. Seems it is a load of balls..Cannon balls to be precise stacked on an old battle ship . I never knew this ,we live and learn .. Mr Google says ... Used to describe cold weather, this saying derives from the traditional Navy phrase "cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey". This references the brass structure or 'monkey' where cannon balls were stacked

Josy1953 Posted January 9 #54283 Share Posted January 9 My new tumble drier has been delivered and DH has installed it so I can once again dry the washing without covering the radiators with clothes. I didn’t realise how much I actually rely on the drier until it stopped working. My neighbour has her washing out on the line but I seriously doubt that it will dry, it is more likely to freeze.

I got up the hill, had to keep stopping though, & then at the top I went to take my inhaler & discovered it wasn’t in my bag!! 🙁 Some steady breathing took pretty much care of that, but my blood pressure was very high unsurprisingly, luckily I’d been taking it myself all week & gave her my sheet of readings so they can do an average, hopefully it’ll turn out to be not so bad. Now that songs in my head thanks for that. 😂 9

Josy1953 Posted January 9 #54286 Share Posted January 9 I have just had a long conversation with our niece who lives in Seattle. It is the first time this year that we have managed to speak because with the time difference and life getting in the way we kept missing each other. It was the perfect way to end the day.

purplesea Posted January 10 #54289 Share Posted January 10 Morning, how is everyone. Arvil @Adawn47 how is Frank doing? Still dark and cold at 1c although it's supposed to be warmer than yesterday and sunny but we will see. Spent all day yesterday waiting for a phone call, which needless to say didn't come. So will have to chase it up. It wasn't a wasted day though as I finished the trousers I was making and have sewn together the lining of a dress. Hopefully will get some more of the dress done today, although I'm wiating for a zip that I've had to order. Enjoy your day, take care everyone and stay safe and warm.
Josy1953 Posted January 10 #54290 Share Posted January 10 (edited) Morning, a cool 3° here but it doesn't feel too bad, probably because there's no wind. I don't have a lot planned today other than the school run then meeting a friend for coffee in the Costa franchise in Next which will probably mean being tempted to buy because we always have to take a look around the shop. It is the recycling bin collection for us today for the first time in 3 weeks so our bin is overflowing but we are not the only ones, at least our bin lid is completely down Edited January 10 by Josy1953
Splice the mainbrace Posted January 10 #54291 Share Posted January 10 (edited) Really buzzing this morning after listening to Zoe Ball on R2 and her 3 themed songs at 7.30 were The Who Baba O’Reilly, Queen Bohemian Rhapsody and New Order Blue Monday, some of my favourite bands and tracks. Better than most of the R2 play list nowadays. Edited January 10 by Splice the mainbrace
lincslady Posted January 10 #54292 Share Posted January 10 Cold but sunny here too. I had my GP visit yesterday - unfortunately I fell in the house on Monday, no broken bones thank goodness but some bruising and stiffness on one side. So a friend took me as I didn't feel able to drive. Outcome, very nice Dr., high bp means treatment for 3 weeks then hopefully go on anticoags. On a new bp tablet. Results at home a bit better already. More importantly, we haven't yet heard from Avril - hoping to get good news from you soon.
Splice the mainbrace Posted January 10 #54293 Share Posted January 10 2c cloudy and calm here this morning. The bird feeders are very busy early on this morning. 6 Gold Finches, numerous Blue and Great Tits, family of House Sparrows and Dunnocks picking up the dropped seeds/peanuts underneath on the ground. However I brought the feeders in last night because yesterday afternoon we saw a rat inside one of the caged peanut feeders which I chased off 😝

Beckett Posted January 10 #54295 Share Posted January 10 Good Morning 3c here at the moment but sunny and frosty - lovely weather for a dog walk. Unfortunately I seem to have that rare breed of dog who'd rather stay home in the warm! @Splice the mainbrace Oh yes, 3 of the best bands ever - totally agree. @lincslady Sorry to hear about your fall but glad no bones were broken. Take good care of yourself. @Adawn47 Thinking of you and Frank every day and send love and hugs. Have a good day everyone. Best wishes to all. I made sure our contents were squashed down so that I could shut the lid properly but others in our area didn't and there was quite a lot of rubbish blowing around before they got collected. If there is any rubbish in the gutter outside our house or even the houses nearby I'll go pick it up and bin it but so many just don't seem to care. Adawn47 Posted January 10 #54297 Share Posted January 10 Good morning everyone. Dull, damp and overcast this morning and 3c. @lincslady I hope you're alright after your fall. As a regular 'tripper upper', I know wnat a shock it can be. Good that they changed your meds as that was some of my problem. There's no tablets for clumsiness though. Frank is still in hospital and waiting for the colonoscopy to try to find the reason for his low hb levels. It could be this morning as they stopped one of his tablets yesterday because of the test🤞 He's still cheerful and eating well, he just wants his own bed. I wish I could be the same. I've been putting on a cheerful front for everyone, but inside I;m quietly falling apart. At least I can be myself on here with my cc friends. Take care everyone and enjoy your day x Avril 26

Take care everyone and enjoy your day x Avril It's the fear of the unknown Avril and we understand how your feeling. Mrs K saying you will be fine and me telling Mrs K the same . Truth was we were worried others on the Cardio unit were getting told your going for a stent or a valve or pacemaker fitted at Sheffield and will soon be home. All I got was the cardio specialists are going to have meetings about your condition but no fix or answers for me. I was also pining for my own bed ,not much fun when alarms are going through out the night and the nurses change over from night to day shift , So Frank wanting his own bed is very understandable . Getting back home felt emotional but that was just the start as I would be sent between Rotherham and Sheffield outpatient hospitals for even more scans but was worth it as it lead to a bit of normality in our lives as they will for you and Frank Avril. Long way to go yet. Just hang in there, your doing fine Avril and so is Frank .. Chin up lass 🙂 17
